1. CHAIRMAN OF EAC-PM
·
The Vice Chairman (VC) of the National Institute for
Transforming India (NITI Aayog), Suman Berry was appointed
as the Chairman of the Economic
Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) with an additional
charge.
·
He succeeded Bibek Debroy, who passed away on 1st
November 2024.
·
EAC-PM is an
independent body set up to provide advice on economic and related matters
to the Government of India, especially to the Prime Minister.

2. NEW SUPREME COURT JUDGE
·
Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court under Article
124(2) of the Constitution of India.
·
The Supreme Court now has 33 working judges, with a
sanctioned strength of 34.
·
The President of India appoints Supreme Court judges based
on the recommendation of the Collegium (a group of senior Supreme Court judges
led by the Chief Justice of India).
·
Supreme Court Judge Must have served as a high court
judge for at least five years, or been a high court advocate for at least ten
years to qualify for a Supreme Court judge position.
·
Supreme Court judges retire at the age of 65.
3. PRESIDENT OF IFPMA
·
Geneva, Switzerland-based International Federation of
Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) has
appointed Dr. Thomas Schinecker, Chief Executive
Officer(CEO) of the Roche Group, as its new President
·
He will succeed the
current President Dr. Albert Bourla and the
Chairman and CEO of Pfizer who completes his term.
·
Rob Davis, CEO of MSD(known as Merck & Co, Inc), has been
appointed as the Vice-President of the IFPMA.
·
The United States of America(USA) based Pfizer Inc is the
leading pharmaceutical company in the world, followed by Johnson & Johnson
and AbbVie.
4. CHAIRPERSON OF UN IJC
·
The Former Supreme Court (SC) Judge of India Justice
Madan B Lokur has been appointed as the chairperson of
the United Nations (UN) Internal Justice Council (IJC) from
by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
·
He would head the council which also comprises other
distinguished jurists.
·
In 2019, Justice Lokur was appointed as a judge on the
non-resident panel of the Supreme Court of Fiji. He was the first
Indian judge to be appointed to the Supreme Court of another country.
·
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) created the IJC as part of a new system to
ensure independence, professionalism, and accountability in the UN’s
justice system.
·
The UNGA appoints the judges of the UN Dispute Tribunal
(UNDT) and the UN Appeals Tribunal (UNAT) based on recommendations from
the IJC.
·
No two judges in either tribunal can be from the same
country.
·
The IJC recommends two or
three candidates for each vacancy to the General Assembly, considering
geographical distribution.
·
The IJC consists of
five members who are appointed by the Secretary-General.
·
The members are responsible for managing the UN’s internal
justice system, which includes the Office of Staff Legal Assistance (OSLA), the
UNDT, and the UNAT.

6. PM OF TONGO
·
Aisake Valu Eke, former Secretary of the
Ministry of Finance, was elected as the Prime Minister
(PM) of Tongo.
·
He won the secret ballot of Parliament by 16- 8
votes by defeating the only other candidate, Viliame Latu (Trade
Minister).
·
Tonga has won the bid to host the 2031 Pacific Games.

7. PM OF ICELAND
·
Halla Tomasdottir, President of Iceland, appointed Kristrun Mjoll Frostadottir, the
Leader of the Social Democratic Alliance (SDA) as the new Prime Minister (PM)
of Iceland.
·
She officially assumed office by replacing former PM Bjarni Benediktsson.
·
She secured 20.8% of the vote and 15 seats
in the Althing (Supreme National
Parliament) of 2024 Icelandic Parliamentary Election.
·
Kristrun Mjoll Frostadottir(36) became the youngest PM in Icelandic history.
·
For the first time, in Iceland that the leaders of all the governing parties will be women, and the first
time that the country will have a female
PM and a female president.

8. ROOFTOP SOLAR
INSTALLATIONS UNDER PMSGMBY
·
According to the
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) data released in December
2024, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Uttar
Pradesh (UP) are the top 3 states with the highest number of rooftop solar
installations under ‘Prime Minister -Surya Ghar:
Muft Bijli Yojana(PMSGMBY)’.

As per the data, Gujarat has
topped among all states in the country with 2,86,545 rooftop
solar installations, followed by Maharashtra (with 1,26,344 installations) and
UP (with 53,423 installations) ranked at 2nd and 3rd spot, respectively.
9. INDIA’S FIRST
ANTI-PESTICIDE BODYSUIT “KISANKAVACH”
·
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and
Technology; Earth Sciences Dr.Jitendra Singh unveiled KisanKavach,
India’s first-of-its-kind anti-pesticide bodysuit.
·
Kisan Kavach was developed
by the Department of Biotechnology’s BRIC-inStem and Sepio Health Pvt.Ltd.,
both based in Bangalore, Karnataka.
·
The Kisan Kavach Protective Shield includes a full-body suit, mask, headshield, and
gloves, offering comprehensive protection Priced
at Rs 4,000.
10. INDIAN RAILWAYS
LAUNCHES ‘SANRAKSHA APP’
·
Indian Railways(IR) introduced the Pan-India ‘Sanraksha’
mobile application(app), which aims to boost passenger safety by improving the training of frontline
safety personnel.
·
The app was launched following the success of a pilot project
in the Nagpur division of Maharashtra and is set to
be expanded across 16 divisions, including the Hyderabad South Central Railway
(SCR) zone.
11. SRI LANKAN PRESIDENT VISIT
TO INDIA
·
President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake(AKD),
visited India marking his first bilateral trip to India after
Sri Lanka’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
·
“Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future” which
outlined a wide range of collaborative initiatives, from energy partnerships to
regional security cooperation.
12. ‘E-SHRAM PORTAL’ REGISTERS
30.48 CRORE WORKERS NATIONWIDE
·
The E-Shram portal , the world’s largest
database for unorganized workers, has recorded 30,48,02,313 (30.48
crore) registrations till December 19 2024.
·
The portal was launched by the Ministry of Labour and
Employment (MoL&E) on 26th August 2021 which aims to
support the unorganized workforce, vital to India’s economy.
·
It creates a National Database of Unorganised Workers
(NDUW), verified with Aadhaar, to deliver targeted welfare schemes, social
security and job opportunities.
13. BUSIEST DOMESTIC FLIGHT ROUTE IN
2024
·
The United Kingdom (UK) based global travel data provider
Official Airline Guide (OAG) released a report titled “Busiest Flight Routes in the World 2024”.
·
According to the report, the Mumbai(BoM)-Delhi route in
India ranked the 8th busiest domestic route in the world in
2024, with airlines operating 7.963 million seats.
·
The Busiest International Airline Route in 2024 is Hong
Kong(HKG) to Taipei (TPE) with 6.8 million seats.
·
Cairo(CAI) to Jeddah(JED) and Seoul Incheon(ICN) to Tokyo
Narita (NRT) secured 2nd and 3rd position
14. GOI ABOLISHES ‘NO-DETENTION
POLICY’ FOR CLASSES 5 AND 8
·
The Government of India (GoI) has abolished the
‘no-detention policy’ for Classes 5 and 8, allowing schools to fail students who do
not clear year-end exams.
·
It will be applicable to over 3,000 central schools,
including Kendriya Vidyalayas(KVs),
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas(JNVs), Sainik Schools(under the Ministry
of Defence,MoD) and Eklavya Model Residential Schools(EMRS)(under the Ministry
of Tribal Affairs, MoTA).
·
The new policy was officially notified after the completion
of the National Curriculum Framework(NCF) in 2023.
·
Students failing in Classes 5 and 8 will
have a chance to retake exams within two months.
·
If students fail the
re-exam, they will be held back.
·
Students cannot be expelled before completing Class 8.
·
16 states and 2 Union Territories (UTs), including
Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh (HP),
West Bengal (WB), Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu (TN),
have decided to adopt the no-detention
policy.
·
States like Andhra Pradesh (AP), Kerala, Maharashtra and
Uttar Pradesh (UP) have opted to continue the policy.
·
Haryana and Puducherry have not yet made a decision.
·
Education was originally a state
subject in
India under the GoI Act 1935.
·
The 86th Amendment
Constitution Act, 2002 made the Right
to Education a fundamental right under Article 21A for children aged 6-14 years.
15. SPECIAL CENTENARY TRIBUTES AT
KOLKATA AIRPORT CELEBRATIONS
·
Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) launched ‘UDAN Yatri Cafe’ and ‘Centenary
Postal Special Cover’ during the inauguration ceremony of the
Centenary celebrations of
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata, West
Bengal (WB).
·
Union Minister also unveiled the Centenary Celebrations Logo
of NSCBI Airport.
·
The “UDAN Yatri Cafe” is a unique pilot project led by MoCA
and AAI.
·
It is designed to cater specifically to the needs of
passengers traveling under the Ude Desh
Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme.
