1.       52ND INTERNATIONAL EMMY AWARDS 2024

·         The 52nd International Emmy Awards 2024 took place in New York

·         The awards were presented by presented by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS).

·         The event was hosted by Indian stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das.

·         With this, he became the first Indian to host this annual event.

 

2.       DAVIS CUP TENNIS 2024

·         Italian team captained by FilippoVolandri won the Davis Cup 2024 (the World Cup of Tennis) for the second consecutive year and for third time in their history, by defeating the Netherlands team captained by Paul Haarhuis with 2-0 in the finals held in Málaga, Spain.

·         2024 Davis Cup was the 112th edition of the tournament between the national teams in Men’s tennis.

·         Italy has previously won the Davis Cup in 1976 and 2023.

·         Italy became the first team to win 2 consecutive since the Czech Republic (2012 & 2013).

·         Italy is ranked number 1 in the 2024 year end Davis Cup National Ranking, while Australia is ranked 2nd and Canada is ranked 3rd.

·         The Davis Cup is an international team event in men’s tennis organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

·         The competition began in 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the United States of America (USA).

·         The United States of America (USA) is the most successful country in the history of Davis Cup with 32 victories.

 


3.       INDIA GETS HOSTING RIGHTS FOR 2026 ASIAN RIFLE AND PISTOL CUP

·         The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced that the executive committee of the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) has awarded the hosting rights for 2026 Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup to India.

·         This competition is set to take place in New Delhi, Delhi in 2026.

·         India has previously hosted the 8th Asian Air Gun Competition in 2015 and the Asian Olympic Qualifier in 2016.

·         India hosted the ISSF World Cup Final Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in New Delhi, Delhi in 2024.

·         Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) Headquarters– Hawally, Kuwait

 

4.       INDIAN COAST GUARD’S “SAREX-24” MARITIME EXERCISE

·         The 11th edition of Indian Coast Guard (ICG)’s National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise & Workshop (SAREX-24) was held in Kochi, Kerala

·         It is a biennial exercise, which was conducted under the aegis of New Delhi (Delhi)-based National Maritime Search and Rescue Board (NMSARB).

·         Theme of SAREX-24: “Enhancing Search and Rescue capabilities through Regional collaboration”.

 

5.       INDIA-SINGAPORE BILATERAL MILITARY EXERCISE ‘AGNI WARRIOR 2024’

·         The India-Singapore bilateral annual military exercise ‘Agni Warrior (XAW-2024)’ was held at the Devlali Field Firing Ranges in Maharashtra.

·         The Agni Warrior Exercise conducted under the Army Bilateral Agreement between India and Singapore since 2004.

6.       IN TESTS K-4 NUCLEAR MISSILE FROM INS ARIGHAAT SUBMARINE

·         Indian Navy (IN) successfully tested the K-4 nuclear-capable ballistic missile from its newly commissioned submarine, INS Arighaat.

·         The K-4, with a range of 3,500 km, is an upgrade over the K-15 missiles used on INS Arihant, which have a range of 750 km.

·         INS Arighaat, India’s 2nd nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, was commissioned in August 2024 and is equipped with advanced Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-developed technology.

·         India’s sea-based deterrence is reinforced by INS Arihant and INS Arighaat, with the third, INS Aridhaman, set to be commissioned in 2025.

7.       CHINA LAUNCHED WORLD’S 1ST ‘SELF-DRIVING’ SATELLITES

·         China successfully launched the world’s first ‘self-driving’ satellites developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST), a subsidiary of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), marking a milestone in the country’s commercial space programme.

·         The two satellites, named Siwei Gaojing-2 03 and Gaojing-2 04, were launched aboard a Long March-2C carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre(JSLC) in northwest China.

·         These satellites have been designed to maintain or change their flight paths without ground intervention and revolutionise surveying and mapping in the space sector.

8.       INDIAN-CAMBODIAN ARMY EXERCISE CINBAX

·         The inaugural edition of Exercise CINBAX, a Joint Table Top Exercise (TTX) between the Indian Army(IA) and Cambodian Army commenced at the Foreign Training Node in Pune, Maharashtra.

·         The exercise is divided into three phases:

·         Cambodia Prime Minister (PM)– Hun Manet

·         Capital- Phnom Penh

·         Currency- Cambodian riel (KHR)

 

9.       INDIAN ARMY LAUNCHES ‘EKLAVYA’ DIGITAL PLATFORM FOR OFFICER TRAINING

·         Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General UpendraDwivedi launched the ‘Eklavya’ digital platform for officers’ training, marking a significant step towards modernization.

·         It is aligned with the Indian Army’s(IA) “Decade of Transformation” initiative and IA’s theme for 2024 as the”Year of Technology Absorption” .

·         The Eklavya platform aims to enhance professional military education, reduce course congestion, and prepare officers for specialized roles, promoting continuous learning and specialization.

·         It hosts 96 courses from 17 Category ‘A’ Training Establishments of the Indian Army

 

10.    INDO-MALAYSIA JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE ‘HARIMAU SHAKTI’

·         The 4th edition of India- Malaysia Joint Military Exercise ‘Harimau Shakti’, between the Indian Army (IA) and the Malaysian Army, commenced at Bentong Camp in Pahang district, Malaysia.

·         Harimau Shakti, the Indo-Malaysia joint exercise, has been conducted annually Since 2012 to enhance bilateral ties and cooperation between the two nations.

·         This annual exercise is hosted alternately in India and Malaysia.

·         The previous edition was conducted in November 2023 at Umroi Cantonment, located in Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya, India.

·         The exercise is structured into two distinct phases

·         Malaysia Prime Minister (PM)- Anwar bin Ibrahim

·         Capital- Kuala Lumpur

·         Currency– Malaysian Ringgit(MYR)

 

11.    TIMES “INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE RANKINGS 2025”

·         According to Times Higher Education (THE)’s inaugural “Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) 2025”, Anna University in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN)has topped among all Indian universities featured on the list and secured 42nd position globally with overall score 66.1.

·         It is the only Indian university which featured among the top 50 universities of the list.

·         New York (the United States of America (USA)-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has secured 1st spot in the rankings with overall score of 92.4, followed by Stanford University (the USA) and National University of Singapore (NUS) (Singapore) ranked at 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
India with 65 universities has emerged as the most represented country on the list.

·         However, no Indian institute/ university featured among the top 10 as well as top 20 universities in the rankings.

·         As per the rankings, top 100 universities on the list are from all 6 continents, which is led by Asia continent with 47 institutions from 15 countries, followed by Europe (24); North America (17)
