1.       PM MODI DEDICATED EXECUTION OF 3 NEW CRIMINAL LAWS TO THE NATION 

·         Prime Minister (PM) NarendraModi dedicated the successful implementation of three new Criminal Laws to the nation during the program organised with the themeSecure Society, Developed India – From Punishment to Justice” in Chandigarh.

·         Chandigarh has become the 1st Union Territory (UT) in the country to fully implement the BharatiyaNyaya (Second) Sanhita (BNS2) Act, 2023; BharatiyaNagarikSuraksha (Second) Sanhita (BNSS2) Act, 2023; and BharatiyaSakshya (Second) Adhiniyam(BSA2) Act, 2023.

·         These laws are available in all the languages ​​in the 8th Schedule through the Bhashini Application(app).

·         E-Vaarta facility has also been introduced in Chandigarh between the police, judiciary, forensic, prosecution and jail through the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS).

 

2.       DIAMOND JUBILEE OF NAFSCOB

·         Union Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and the Ministry of Cooperation, attended the Diamond Jubilee(60 Years) celebrations of the National Federation of State Co-operative Banks Limited (NAFSCOB) and the national meeting of Rural Cooperative Banks at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi

·         Union Minister Amit Shah stated that in 2027, India’s economy will be the 3rd largest economy in the World, which is also a goal of the cooperative sector.

·         National Federation of State Co-operative Banks Ltd (NAFSCOB) was founded in 1964 by Dr.DhananjayraoRamchandraGadgil and Maganbhai Patel with a vision to guide district and state banks in India.

·         It maintains authorized data of 100 parameters for agricultural loans, ensuring transparency with an accuracy of 99.72%.

 


3.       INDIA’S FIRST CONSTITUTION MUSEUM

·         O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has inaugurated India’s first Constitution Museum in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), featuring the development of S.A.M.V.I.D. (Smart Assistant for Museum Visitors and Interactive Displays), at O.P JGU in Sonipat, Haryana.

·         The museum was inaugurated by Om Birla, Speaker of the LokSabha,

·         The Museum was inaugurated to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India on 26th November 1949.

·         S.A.M.V.I.D. is an innovative semi-humanoid guide robot designed to enhance the visitor experience at the Constitution Museum and the Rights and Freedoms Academy.

·         Visitors can experience a 360-degree view of pre-independence India, learning about the journey that led to the drafting of the Constitution.

 

4.       11TH ASEAN DEFENSE MINISTERS’ MEETING PLUS

·         The 11th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) was conducted in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

·         The Meeting exchanged views on regional and international security issues in order to strengthen security and defense cooperation for peace, stability, and development in the region.

·         The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Laos General ChansamoneChanyalath.

·         The 11th ADMM-Plus forum consisted of 10 ASEAN countries, 8 Plus countries (dialogue partners) and Timor Leste.

5.       1ST BRIC FOUNDATION DAY CELEBRATION

·         The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Biotechnology Research and InnovationCouncil (BRIC) under the Ministry of Science &Technology(MoS&T) introduced the ‘One Day One Genome’ initiative to showcase the enormous microbial potential of India.

·         The 1st Foundation day of BRIC was held on November 9, 2024 at National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi.

 

6.       2ND INDIA-CARICOM SUMMIT HELD IN GEORGETOWN, GUYANA

·         NarendraModi, Prime Minister (PM) of India and Dickon Mitchell, PM of Grenada and the current chairperson of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) jointly chaired the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, Guyana.

·         The CARICOM Summit was hosted by President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali. 

·         The 3rd India-CARICOM Summit is set to be hosted in India.

·         PM Modi offered assistance to CARICOM countries in seven key areas. The key areas will promote the close bonds of friendship between India and CARICOM.

·         CARICOM is a group of 21 countries: 15 Member States  and 6 Associate Members.

·         This includes both island states and mainland territories like Suriname and Guyana.

·         CARICOM was founded in 1973 with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas by four founding members of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.

·         The CARICOM Secretariat is located in Georgetown, Guyana.

 

7.       INDIA EXPORTS PINAKA WEAPON SYSTEMS TO ARMENIA

·         The first batch of the Indian manufactured and the most indigenously developed Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launchers (MBRL) were exported to Armenia.

·         In 2022, Armenia and India signed a contract worth Rs 2,000 crore for the supply of rocket launchers.

·         The Indian side confirmed that Armenia had ordered 3 models of Pinaka rocket systems, which were to be transported from the New Delhi (Capital of India) to Yerevan (Capital of Armenia) by 2024.

·         Armenia is one of 3 largest buyers of Indian weapons and equipment along with the (United States) US and France.

·         MBRL was designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a laboratory of the DRDO aimed at providing the army with firepower superiority that would reduce casualties to soldiers in war.

8.       INDIA SIGNS FINAL ACT OF RIYADH DESIGN LAW TREATY

·         India has signed the Final Act of the Riyadh Design Law Treaty (DLT), marking a significant milestone after nearly two decades of negotiations.

·         This treaty, adopted by the member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), aims to harmonize and simplify the registration processes for industrial designs across various jurisdictions.

·         Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, hosted the Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopted the Design Law Treaty

9.       INDIA AND ISA PARTNER FOR SOLAR ENERGY PROJECTS

·         An agreement was signed between India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the International Solar Alliance (ISA), to implement solar energy projects in Fiji, Comoros, Madagascar, and Seychelles.

·         The initiative aims to enhance energy access and reliability in these nations by introducing solar-powered solutions.

·         Under this partnership, the ISA will serve as the Project Implementing Agency, with India contributing USD 2 million towards the project.

·         The Wilmington Declaration, issued at the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Delaware, emphasized collaboration among Quad countries (India, USA, Japan, and Australia) to support clean energy supply chains.

·         ISA was launched by the Prime Minister (PM) of India NarendraModi and the former President of France, Francois Hollande during the COP21 Paris Climate Conference held  in November 2015.

10.    UNESCO’S ROADMAP FOR GLOBAL TSUNAMI PREPAREDNESS BY 2030

·         The (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) UNESCO unveiled a comprehensive roadmap marking the 20th anniversary of the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami to make all coastal community tsunami ready by 2030.

·         This initiative was announced during an international conference in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.

·         Under the UNESCO Tsunami Ready Programme, over 30 countries have established critical early warning systems, with 26 Indian and 12 Indonesian coastal communities recognized as tsunami-ready.

·         Globally, 700 million people reside in tsunami-prone areas, a figure projected to reach 1 billion by 2050.

·         Tsunamis, caused by sudden oceanic shifts like earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, remain highly destructive. Historical events such as the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami (227,000+ deaths) and the 2011 Japanese tsunami (20,000 deaths) underline their catastrophic impact.

 

11.    ‘MANIFEST’ : CAMBRIDGE DICTIONARY WORD OF THE YEAR 2024 

·         The Cambridge Dictionary has chosen ‘manifest’ as its Word of the Year 2024, reflecting a significant rise in its usage.

·         With nearly 1,30,000 lookups in their websites, the word gained popularity across mainstream media, self-help communities, and social media platforms.

·         The phrase to manifest refers to the act of imagining one’s desired achievements, with the belief that doing so can increase the chances of success.

·         In 2023 ‘hallucinate’ was the Cambridge Word of the Year, highlighting the evolving nature of language in our time.

 

12.    INDIA RE-ELECTED TO UN PEACEBUILDING COMMISSION FOR 2025-2026

·         India was re-elected to the United Nations (UN) Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the 2025-2026 term, consolidating its position in global peace efforts.

·         Currently, India is serving as the member of the commission and its tenure will expire on 31st December, 2024.

·         The announcement was made by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN.

·         PBC was established in December, 2005 as an intergovernmental advisory body that supports peace efforts in conflict-affected countries  and is an important addition to the capacity of the International Community in the broad peace agenda.

·         India has been a founding member of the UN-PBC since its formation in 2005.

·         At present, PBC has 31 member states which are elected from the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and UN Security Council (UNSC) and UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). 

·         It also includes the top financial contributing nations and the top troop-contributing nations to the UN as members.

·         The main function of the PBC is to provide recommendations and information to enhance the coordination of all relevant actors within and outside the UN.

·         It acts as a bridge among the principal organs and relevant entities of the UN by sharing advice on peacebuilding needs and priorities, which is in alignment with the respective competencies and responsibilities of these bodies.

·         India is among the largest contributors of uniformed personnel to UN Peacekeeping missions.

·         More than 200,000 Indians have served in 49 of the 71 UN peacekeeping missions established around the world since 1948.

·         Currently, India has deployed about 6,000 military and police personnel to UN operations in Abyei, the Central African Republic (CAR), Cyprus, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lebanon, the Middle East, Somalia, South Sudan, and Western Sahara.

·         In 2007, India was the first nation to send an all-women contingent to a UN peacekeeping mission.

·         The first all women contingent in the peacekeeping mission, a Formed Police Unit(FPU) from India, was deployed in 2007 to the UN Operation in Liberia(UNMIL).

13.    BRICS SHERPA MEETING IN EKATERINBURG

·         The final Sherpa and Sous-Sherpa meeting of BRICS(Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) was held in Ekaterinburg, Russia,

·         The meeting witnessed the ceremonial handover of the BRICS chairmanship from Russia to Brazil, marking the end of a pivotal year for the bloc under Russia’s leadership.

·         Under Russia’s presidency, XVI BRICS Summit was held in Kazan in October 2024.

·         This led to the adoption of the Kazan Declaration.

·         The summit also marked the expansion of BRICS. Egypt, Iran, the UAE(United Arab Emirates) and Ethiopia were welcomed as a full member in 2024.

·         Additionally, Belarus, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand joined as BRICS partners in 2024.

·         The grouping was formed in September 2006 and it originally comprised Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC).

14.    JCB PRIZE FOR LITERATURE

·         UpamanyuChatterjee’s book “Lorenzo Searches for the Meaning of Life”, won the 7th Edition JCB (Joseph Cyril Bamford Excavators Limited) Prize for Literature.

·         The book, published by Speaking Tiger Books, The book follows protagonist Lorenzo Senesi’s journey of self-discovery and faith.

·         JCB Prize for Literature was established in 2018, awarded annually with Rs 25,00,000 (USD 30,000) prize and a unique sculpture highlighting the value of Indian literature and its diverse storytelling styles.

·         JCB Prize has been considered as “India’s most valuable literature prize”.

 

15.    NIF BOOK PRIZE 2024

·         The New India Foundation announced writer Ashok Gopal has won the KamaladeviChattopadhyay National Innovation Foundation(NIF) Book Prize 2024 for his biography “A Part Apart: The Life and Thought of B R Ambedkar”.

·         The award carries a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh, a trophy, and a citation.
