1.       IBSF WORLD BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

·         Indian cueist PankajAdvani won the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Billiards Championship 2024 (150-up format) title by defeating England’s Robert Hall 4-2 in Doha, Qatar.

·         This marks his historic 28th World title and also his 7th consecutive World title.

 

2.       LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX 2024

·         Mercedes’ racer George Russell  (UK)) won the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix(GP)  held o in Nevada, the United States of America (USA).

·         Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton (Britain) finished 2nd and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. (Spain) finished 3rd .



 

3.       F1 DRIVERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

·         Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, the Dutch and Belgian racing driver, secured his 4th consecutive Formula One (F1) Drivers’ Championship after his 5th place finish at the Las Vegas GP 2024.

·         He leads the F1 2024 Driver Standings with 403 points followed by McLaren Mercedes’ Lando Norris (Britain) with 340 points and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (Monaco) with 319 points.

 

4.       WORLD MILITARY CHAMPIONSHIPS

·         Indian wrestling, ReetikaHooda clinched the gold medal in the women’s 76kg category at the World Military Championships

·         ReetikaHooda becomes the second Indian woman to win gold at the World Military Championships.

·         JyotiSihag secured gold in the 55kg category just a day earlier.

·         The World Military Championships, also known as the CISM Military World Games, have been held in many cities around the world

 

5.       PLI SCHEME FOR SENIOR EXECUTIVES OF PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS

·         The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has launched a revised Performance-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme with an aim to reward and motivate employees for significant value creation for various stakeholders.

·         The previous PLI scheme was restricted only to Whole-Time Directors (WTDs) – Managing Director (MD) & Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Executive Directors.

·         The revised scheme also applies to senior executives in the rank of Chief Manager and above.

·         This revision will reduce the existing wide compensation disparity between senior executives of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and private sector banks (PvSBs).

 

6.       RBI CANCELS LICENCE OF THE DURGA CO-OPERATIVE URBAN BANK

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of the Durga Cooperative Urban Bank Limited, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh (AP) that had been operational for 95 years.

·         This decision follows the bank’s failure to meet regulatory capital requirements and operational standards outlined in the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. 

·         Depositors are eligible for compensation up to Rs 5 lakh from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

 

7.       RBI DATA: ECBS NET INFLOWS RISE TO USD 7.9 BILLION IN H1FY25

·         According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’ November monthly bulletin data the net inflows through External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) has increased from USD 6.8 billion in 1st Half (H1: April-September) of Financial Year 2023-24 (FY24) to USD 7.9 billion in H1FY25.

·         According to the RBI’s data, outward remittances under the Liberlised Remittance Scheme (LRS) of the RBI declined by 14.88% Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) during the H1FY25, mainly attributed by decrease across major segments.

·         Remittances for the maintenance of close relatives decreased significantly by 37.17% Y-o-Y to USD 1.92 billion from USD 3.05 billion.

·         As per the RBI’s data, Gross Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India has increased by 25.7% Y-o-Y, from USD 33.5 billion (in H1FY24) to USD 42.1 billion (H1FY25).

 

8.       RBI AND MMA SIGNED MOU TO BOOST CROSS-BORDER TRANSACTIONS

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing a framework to promote the use of local currencies i.e. the Indian Rupee (INR) and the Maldvian Rufiyaa (MVR) for cross-border transactions.

·         The agreement was signed by Shaktikanta Das, Governor of RBI and Ahmed Munawar, Governor of MMA in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

·         The MoU aims to boost the use of INR and MVR in current account transactions, permissible capital account transactions and any other economic and financial transactions as agreed upon by both nations.

·         The MoU would allow the exporters and importers to invoice and settle in their respective local currencies, which in turn would enable the development of trading in the INR-MVR pair in foreign exchange market.

·         The Use of local currencies in bilateral transactions will help to promote trade between India and Maldives as well as deepen financial integration and bolster the economic relations between both nations.

9.       SEBI ABOLISHED 1% MANDATORY SECURITY DEPOSIT REQUIREMENTS IN PUBLIC ISSUES

·         The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued a circular in which it abolished the earlier requirement mandating issuer companies to deposit 1% of the public issue size with stock exchanges before launching a public issue. 

·         Earlier, any company seeking to launch a public issue of equity shares has to deposit with the stock exchanges an amount equal to 1% of the issue size.

·         SEBI initially introduced the 1% security deposit rule to ensure companies addressed common investor complaints like refund delays, incorrect share allotments, and issues with dispatching physical share certificates after public or rights issues.

·         Now, with the implementation modern reforms ,most post-issue concerns have been resolved, making the 1% security deposit unnecessary.

·         Stock exchanges are now required to establish a joint Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the release of any 1% security deposits for processing pending refunds of deposits made under the previous framework.

·         It has directed stock exchanges to notify all listed companies of the changes and publish the circular on their respective web portals.

10.   RBI INCREASES UPI LITE AND UPI 123PAY LIMITS

·         Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced an increase in the transaction limit for (Unified Payment Interface) UPI123Pay and the UPI Lite wallet limit allowing users to make higher value digital payments via mobile phones.

·         UPI LITE is a new payment solution that leverages the trusted NPCI Common Library (CL) application to process low value transactions that have been set at below Rs 500.

·         UPI 123Pay allows feature phone users to make digital payments without needing an internet connection.

·         It offers four methods for transactions such as IVR (Interactive Voice Response), Missed calls, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)-embedded apps,and Sound-based technology all with the newly increased transaction limits.

·         The NPCI has set a deadline of January 1, 2025 for banks, public sector banks (PSBs), and service providers to fully implement these changes.

·         Increased Transaction Limit: The maximum transaction limit for UPI 123Pay has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, allowing users to conduct higher-value transactions.

·         UPI Lite wallets has been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000, and the per transaction limit for UPI Lite has been raised from ₹500 to ₹1,000.

·         Aadhaar (One Time Password) OTP Authentication: To bolster security, Aadhaar OTP authentication will  be required for UPI 123Pay transactions.

·         Standardised Transaction Tagging: A new transaction purpose code (86) has been introduced to improve tracking and reporting of UPI 123Pay transactions.

·         The purpose code 86 is a new identifier for UPI 123Pay transactions required for all transactions, while  the previous code (31) is no longer valid.

·         Enhanced Initiation Methods: The system will now support multiple initiation options, such as (Interactive Voice Response)IVR calls, missed calls, feature phone apps, and sound-based technology for greater accessibility.

·         UPI Number Functionality: With integration of the UPI numeric (Identity) ID mapper, users can now make payments using UPI numbers.

·         Unified Payment Interface (UPI) is a real-time payment system that enables instant and secure money transfers between bank accounts using mobile phones.

·         UPI was officially launched on April 11 2016 by NPCI under the guidance of RBI.

·         Bhutan was the first country to adopt UPI in July 2021.

·         The countries that have also adopted UPI include Singapore, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, France, Netherlands and Nepal.

 

11.   WORLD PHILOSOPHY DAY –  NOVEMBER 21 2024

·         The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s World Philosophy Day is annually observed across the globe on 3rd Thursday of November to highlight the importance of enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual.

·         Philosophy  Day  at  UNESCO  has  been  celebrated  every  year  since  2002,  on  the  third  Thursday  of  November, under  the  UNESCO’s regular  programme.

 

12.   WORLD TELEVISION DAY 2024 – NOVEMBER 21

·         United Nations (UN’s) World Television Day (WTD) is annually observed across the globe on November 21 to acknowledge the significant role and impact of television in our daily lives.

·         National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) awarded the inaugural “Excellence in Production Technology” Emmy to The Santa Clauses Season Two .

 

13.   WORLD FISHERIES DAY 2024 – NOVEMBER 21

·         World Fisheries Day (WFD) is annually observed across the globe on 21st November to highlight the importance of sustainable fisheries and the need to protect aquatic ecosystems and the livelihoods of fishing communities.

·         The theme for this year is “India Blue Transformation: Strengthening Small-scale and Sustainable Fisheries.”

·         On World Fisheries Day 2024, progressive States, UTs, districts, and individuals were recognized by the Department of Fisheries (DoF) and the Ministry of Fisheries

·         Kerala washonored with the Best Marine State award.

·         Telanganareceived the award for the Best Inland State.

·         Uttarakhandwas recognized as the Best Himalayan and Northeast State.

·         Jammu & Kashmir recognized as the Best Union Territory.

 

14.   INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN 2024 – NOVEMBER 25

·         The United Nations (UNInternational Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is annually observed across the globe on 25 November to raise global awareness about the issue of violence against women

·         25th November 2024 marks the 25th International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

 

15.   NATIONAL MILK DAY 2024-NOVEMBER 26

·         This day marks the birth anniversary of Dr.Verghese Kurien, also known as the Father of the White Revolution in India.

·         White Revolution is also known as Operation Flood.

·         This revolutionary program, launched in 1970 by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), aimed to increase the production and supply of milk across India.

·         Under Dr.Kurien’s leadership, India transitioned from a milk-deficient country to the largest milk producer in the world.
