SOMALILAND
PRESIDENT

Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, leader
of Somaliland’s opposition has won
the presidential elections and was elected as the 6th President of
Somaliland.
·
Abdullahi (Waddani
Party), also known as Irro,
secured nearly 64% of
the vote by defeating the incumbent President Muse Bihi Abdi (Kulmiye
Party).
·
The Results were announced by the Somaliland National Electoral Commission (SLNEC).
·
Somaliland is a
former British protectorate that joined the rest of Somalia on 1 July 1960. In
1991 Somaliland declared its independence from Somalia.

UZBEKISTAN
PRIME MINISTER
·
Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov was
appointed as the Prime Minister (PM) of Uzbekistan
for the third consecutive
term by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and
the announcement was made at a meeting during the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (the lower house of the parliament).
·
Abdulla Aripov first assumed the position of Prime
Minister (PM) of
Uzbekistan in December
2016, following his nomination by the Liberal-Democratic
Party (LDP) of
Uzbekistan.

JAPAN
PM
·
The Leader of the
Liberal Democratic Party
(LDP), Shigeru Ishiba was
re-elected as the Prime
Minister (PM) of Japan after receiving the highest number
of votes in both houses of the Japanese
Parliament(known as Japanese Diet).

ShigeruIshiba won
in a runoff for PM against opposition
leader Yoshihiko
Noda, the leader of the major opposition Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP), in the Lower House of the
Japanese Diet.
·
He received 221 votes surpassing Noda who received 151
votes, despite reaching the required majority of 233 votes, and became
Japan’s 103rd PM.

EFF 2024 GOODWILL AMBASSADOR
·
Shriya Pilgaonkar, an Indian actress and director, has joined All Living Things Environmental Film
Festival 2024” (ALT EFF
2024),India’s largest environmental film festival as the
goodwill ambassador.

ALT EFF has also appointed actress-producer Alia Bhat as the goodwill ambassador for its 2024
edition.

MINISTER OF MALI
·
General Abdoulaye Maiga(43
years old) was appointed as the new Prime Minister (PM) of Mali by the ruling junta.
·
He succeeded ChoguelKokallaMaiga, who
served as the PM of Mali since 2021.
·
He was dismissed by the junta for his criticism of the
military regime.
·
Abdoulaye Maiga,
a specialist in international affairs and good governance represented Mali at

Chairman and Managing Director (MD) of Emami Group Limited, took over as the
President of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for 2024-25, during the FICCI’s 97th Annual Convention held in New
Delhi

He succeeds Anish Shahat,
MD of the Mahindra Group
·
Anant Goenka has been elevated to Senior Vice President from the position of Vice President.
·
Vijay Shankar, Chairman of Chennai(Tamil Nadu, TN)
based Sanmar Group (Chennai) also appointed as the Vice President of FICCI.

OF SCLSC
·
Justice
Surya Kant was appointed
as the new chairman of the Supreme Court
Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) by
the Chief Justice of India (CJI) SanjivKhanna,
in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3A of the Legal Services
Authority(LSA) Act, 1987.
·
He replaced BR
Gavai who has been appointed as Executive Chairperson of
National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
·
The Supreme Court
Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) plays
a crucial role in ensuring access to justice for those who might face financial
and social barriers in accessing the highest court of the land.
·
It consists of a chairperson
and 9 members nominated by the CJI.

MINISTER OF LITHUANIA
·
Gintautas Paluckas, a computer scientist and Social Democrat was appointed as the
Prime Minister (PM) of
Lithuania (Baltic country) by the President Gitanas NausÄ—da.
·
He was elected by
the Seimas, parliament of
Lithuania with 88 Member of Parliament(MPs) support out of 128MPs.
·
Gintautas Paluckas, deputy leader of the
Lithuanian Social Democrats Party (LSDP), will replace Incumbent PM Ingrida Å imonytÄ— from
the conservative Fatherland Union.

The 1st edition of ‘Sagarmanthan – The Great Oceans Dialogue’, the
South Asia’s largest Maritime Thought Leadership summit was held in New Delhi

Sagarmanthan
provides a global platform for leaders and policymakers to discuss critical maritime topics like the blue economy, global supply
chains, maritime logistics, and sustainable growth, aiming to create a
future-ready maritime ecosystem.

The event focuses
on four main themes: New Frontiers, Blue Growth, Green and Blue, and Coasts and Communities,
addressing challenges and opportunities in ocean governance.

India’s maritime
sector handles 95%
of the country’s trade by volume and 70% by value, with 12 major ports and over

TO HOST GLOBAL CONFERENCE OF COOPERATIVES

India will host the International
Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Global Cooperative Conference in New Delhi

This marks the first
time in the 130-year history of the ICA that the global cooperative

INTIATIVE TO EMPOWER UNDERPRIVILEGED STUDENTS

Union Minister of State(MoS) Dr.Jitendra
Singh, Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST) inaugurated the
“Viksit Bharat Initiative for Student Innovation and Outreach Network” (VISION) in New Delhi
·
This
initiative is designed to promote education, skill-building, and
innovation among underprivileged children.
·
This
program aims to bridge the gap between urban and rural students by
providing access to mentorship, resources, and training opportunities.
·
The
Vision Program, initiated by the Gurugram (Haryana)-based Utsav Foundation, a
non-profit organization (NPO) devoted to supporting underprivileged youth, aims
to enhance education and skill development.

HUNGER SOARING WITH 152 MILLION -FAO
·
According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation
(FAO)’s “World Food and Agriculture: Statistical Yearbook
2024”, despite rising food production, global
hunger continues to worsen, with 152
million more people facing
hunger in 2023 compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

This report was released at the 5th United Nations World Data Forum(UNWDF 2024) held in MedellÃn, Colombia
·
This alarming trend indicates the rising challenge of
achieving the United Nations (UN) mandated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 of Zero Hunger by 2030.
·
As per the
report, hunger affected 9.1% of the global
population in 2023, which is more than the 7.5% estimated for 2019.
·
Over the last two
decades, global agricultural value has increased by 89% in real terms,
reaching USD 3.8
trillion in 2022.
·
As per the
report, the global production of primary crops reached 9.6 billion tonnes in
2022, up by 56% compared
to 2000.

According to the S&P Global Corporate
Sustainability Assessment (CSA) rankings 2024, Mumbai
based Hindalco
Industries Limited, a firm of the Aditya Birla Group, has been ranked as the ‘world’s most
sustainable aluminium company’ for the 5th consecutive year.
·
With this
ranking, Hindalcoretains its membership in the S&P Global’s Dow Jones
Sustainability Indices (DJSI).
·
It became the only aluminium company to join the S&P
Global’s DJSI World Index.
·
It was first joined in the index in 2021.
·
DJSI World Index
represents the top 10 % of the largest 2,500 companies in the S&P Global
Broad Market Index (GBMI), selected based on long-term economic performance and
ESG criteria.

MEMBER OF ISA
·
Republic of Armenia became
the 104th full
member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
·
Armenia’s full membership in the ISA is effective
from November 15, 2024 while the corresponding agreement was signed on November
16 2023 in Yerevan, Armenia.
·
ISA was launched
by the Prime Minister (PM) of India, NarendraModi and the former President of
France, Francois
Hollande during the COP21 Paris Climate Conference
held in November 2015.
·
By 2030 ,a
treaty based intergovernmental organisation, ISA aims at
mobilising 1000 billion investments
for the massive deployment of solar energy.
