INDIRA GANDHI PEACE PRIZE 2023

The
Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace,
Disarmament, and Development for 2023 was awarded to Daniel Barenboim, a world-famous pianist and conductor, and Ali Abu Awwad, a Palestinian peace
activist.

The
Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development is an esteemed
award that has been presented annually
since 1986 by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.

The award carries a monetary reward
of 25 lakh rupees
along with a citation

FORTUNE’S 100 MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE IN BUSINESS LIST
·
Fortune, an American global
business magazine released the inaugural list of the “Fortune 100
Most Powerful People (MPP) in Business”.
·
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla
has secured the top position in the list.
·
He is followed by Jensen
Huang, CEO of Nvidia Corporation and Satya Nadella, CEO
of Microsoft Corporation ranked at 2nd and 3rd positions
·
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Reliance
Industries Limited (RIL) who ranked at 12th spot
are the only Indian to be featured on
the list.

RBI’S 2024 LIST OF D-SIBS
·
·
They must maintain higher Common Equity
Tier 1 (CET1) capital buffers to ensure financial stability.
·
SBI remains in the top 4 D-SIBs, requiring an additional CET1 buffer of
0.80%.
·
HDFC Bank, the largest private lender, is classified in bucket 2, with
a CET1 buffer requirement of 0.40%.
·
ICICI Bank is in bucket 1, needing an additional 0.20% CET1
buffer.
·
The
higher D-SIB surcharges for SBI (0.80%) and HDFC Bank (0.40%) will apply
from April 1, 2025.
·
Domestic Systemically Important Banks (D-SIBs) RBI designates banks as D-SIBs based on their size, complexity, and
interconnectedness within the financial system.
·
The
D-SIB classification is updated annually, following the RBI’s framework was
established in 2014 and updated in 2023.
·
SBI
and ICICI Bank were added in the list in 2015 and 2016 respectively. HDFC Bank
was added to the list along with the other two banks in 2017.
·
Banks
with assets exceeding 2% of India’s GDP (Gross
Domestic Product) are considered for D-SIB classification and assigned a bucket
to determine their CET1 requirements.
5.
NSE RELAXED NORMS FOR INACTIVE TRADING ACCOUNTS
·
The National Stock Exchange Limited (NSE) has
relaxed the norms regarding the definition of inactive trading account.
·
It has changed the timeline for marking an account as inactive from 12 months to 24 months.
·
As
per revised norms, trades in Initial Public Offering (IPO), Mutual
Funds(MF), Sovereign Gold Bonds(SGBs), Offer
for Sale (OFS) and buybacks are also now to be considered as active accounts for trading.
·
Previously, only trading in equity, Futures and Options (F&O) commodities and currencies was considered for allowing the account to
be active.
·
The NSE has mandated that any account once marked
inactive, can be activated by the broker
only after completing in-person verification either physically or in
digital mode.
·
Also, brokers are authorised to seek
updated client details like: address, email ID(electronic mail Identification), bank account and
income details.

RBI EXTENDS IMPLEMENTATION OF ATM CASSETTE SWAP
MECHANISM
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
has granted an extension to the banks and Automated Teller Machine (ATM)
operators to implement the cassette swap mechanism for money replenishment
in ATMs till March 31, 2025.
·
The banking regulator has granted an exemption for Cash Recycler Machines (CRMs)
from cassette swap requirement for money
replenishment.
·
In
2018, RBI asked banks to implement the cassette swap mechanism in phases,
aiming to cover at least one-third of their ATMs annually.
·
However,
due to the slow process, the deadline has now been extended to March
31, 2025.
·
Cassette Swap Mechanism A cassette swap mechanism involves swapping lockable cassettes,
pre-filled with currency notes, during the cash replenishment in ATMs.
·
Each ATM will require 3 sets of five
cassettes. One set
in the ATM, one in transit, and another at the branch/cash-in-transit (CIT)
company.
·
The
cost of each cassette is in the range of Rs.15,000 to Rs.20,000.
·
The
world’s 1st ATM was introduced by Barclays Bank in
1967.
·
In
India, ATM was 1st introduced by HSBC Bank in 1987.
·
ICICI bank is the 1st bank to introduce mobile ATM in India.
·
In
India, ATMs are controlled by the
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

MATTHEW WADE RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL CRICKET
·
Australian
cricketer Matthew Wade announced his retirement from
international cricket and will become an wicket keeping and fielding coach with
Australia national team for the Twenty20 (T20) series against Pakistan in
November 2024.
·
Matthew Wade has played 36 Tests and scored 1,613 runs with four
centuries, including a top score of 117 in the 2019 Ashes.
·
He
has played 225 international matches for Australia across the three formats.
·
He
played 97 ODIs, amassing 1,867 runs, and 92 T20Is with 1,202 runs.
·
He
played for Australia for 13 years and served as the T20 captain between
December 2020 and February 2024.

“SULTAN OF JOHOR CUP JUNIOR HOCKEY U21 TOURNAMENT”

The Indian
men’s junior team under the captain Amir Ali beat New Zealand 3-2 to win the bronze
medal at the12th edition of “Sultan of Johor Cup
junior under 21 men’s hockey tournament 2024” at
the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

This was India’s second consecutive bronze
medal at the tournament.

Great Britain’s (GB) U21 Men’s squad defeated Australia to

10. INDIA SUBMITS “LETTER OF
INTENT” TO IOC TO HOST 2036 OLYMPICS
·
The
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has submitted
a ‘Letter of Intent’ to the IOC’s (International
Olympic Committee) Future Host Commission to express the country’s desire to
host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
·
India
bidding for the 2036 Olympics was first discussed in December 2023,
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi announced the
country’s intention to host the Games during a meeting of the Sports Authority
of India’s Mission Olympic Cell (MOC).
·
Ahmedabad will be seen as a front-runner to be the host city with
Narendra Modi Stadium (largest stadium in the world) with a capacity of
132,000.
·

other countries that have interest in
hosting the 2036 Games include Mexico (Mexico City,
Guadalajara-Monterrey-Tijuana), Indonesia (Nusantara), Turkey (Istanbul), India
(Ahmedabad), Poland (Warsaw, Krakow), Egypt (New Administrative Capital), and
South Korea (Seoul-Incheon).
11. TATA STEEL CHESS TOURNAMENT 2024

Grandmaster (GM) Magnus Carlsen (Norway) won both the rapid and blitz titles at the 6th edition
of the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid and Blitz 2024 tournament,
held, in Alipore, Kolkata, West Bengal.

12. SENIOR NATIONAL HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP

Odisha emerged victorious in a spectacular fashion at the 14th
Hockey India Senior National Championship, defeating
two-time champion Haryana 5-1 in the final held at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Chennai.

Children’s Day or Bal
Diwas is annually observed across India on November
14 to honor the birth anniversary of India’s 1st Prime Minister (PM), Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru, who is remembered for his affection for children.

Before
1964, India celebrated Children’s Day on November 20 which is the day the
United Nations (UN) celebrated World Children’s Day.
·
However,
after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964, India celebrated Children’s Day on
November 14, in honor of his birthday.
·
Jawaharlal
Nehru was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh (UP) on November 14, 1889.
·
In
1929, he was elected President of the Indian National Congress (INC) and
was the PM of the interim Indian Government between 1946 and 1950.
·
In
1947, he was sworn in as the 1st PM of independent India and remained in office
continuously for nearly 17 years until 27 May 1964, the day he died.
·
