INDIA’S 1ST ANALOG SPACE MISSION IN
LADAKH’S LEH
·
India’s first Mars and Moon analog mission has
been launched in Leh, Ladakh, to
simulate life in an interplanetary habitat by Indian Space Research
Organization (ISRO).
·
The mission is a collaboration
between ISRO, AAKA Space Studio Pvt. Ltd.,
the University of Ladakh; IIT (Indian
Institute of Technology) Bombay, and the Ladakh
Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC).
·
This initiative
supports India’s space exploration goals, particularly the Gaganyaan program,
which aims to send Indian astronauts into space.
·
Ladakh was selected for its environmental similarities
to Mars and the Moon, with extreme temperature shifts (15°C
to -10°C), high altitude (3,500 meters), and low
oxygen levels (40% of sea level).
·
The mission features a compact
inflatable habitat, Hab-1,
with essential facilities like a hydroponics farm, kitchen, and sanitation
systems.

JAPAN LAUNCHED LIGNOSAT, WORLD’S 1ST WOODEN SATELLITE
·
Japan launched ‘LignoSat’,
the world’s first wooden satellite into space from National Aeronautics and Space
Administration’s(NASA) Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the United States
of America(USA).
·
This 10-cubic
centimeter (cm3) satellite was designed by researchers at Kyoto
University and homebuilder Sumitomo Forestry in
Japan.
·
The satellite was sent to the
International Space Station (ISS) on a SpaceX mission.
·
The satellite will be positioned
approximately 400 kilometres(Km) above Earth.
·
It
is made of honoki, a kind of magnolia
tree which is traditionally used to make sword sheaths.
·
The
satellite will measure how wood endures
the extreme environment of space, where temperatures fluctuate from -100
degrees Celsius to 100 degrees Celsius every 45 minutes as objects orbit
through darkness and sunlight.

EX VAJRA PRAHAR 2024: INDO-US JOINT SPECIAL FORCES EXERCISE
·
The
Indian Army (IA) contingent
participated in the 15th edition of the Exercise Vajra
Prahar with the United States (US) Army at
the Orchard Combat Training Centre in
Idaho, the United States of America (USA).
·
This ongoing exercise,
which began on November 2 2024, aims to strengthen
military cooperation between India and the US
·
The
IA
is represented by its Special Forces
units from the Parachute Regiment.
·
The
US Army is represented by its elite Green Berets.
·
The
exercise was conducted in two phases:Phase
1- Combat Conditioning and tactical-level special mission training
exercises and Phase 2- Validation of
training received by the Joint forces in Phase 1 through a 48- hour
exercise.

INDIA-INDONESIA JOINT EXERCISE ‘GARUD SHAKTI’
·
A contingent of the Indian Army (IA) participated in the 9th edition of the India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces
Exercise, GARUD SHAKTI, in Cijantung in Jakarta, Indonesia.
·
The
exercise GARUD SHAKTI – 24 involves 25 Indian personnel from the Parachute
Regiment (Special Forces) of the IA and 40 members of Indonesia’s Special forces Kopassus.
·
The
exercise was initiated in 2012 as a Joint Military
Exercise between India and Indonesia. This exercise is held
alternately in India and Indonesia.

DRDO SUCCESSFULLY TESTS LONG RANGE LAND ATTACK CRUISE MISSILE
·
The Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO) conducted the first flight-test of the
Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) , with a range of 1,000 kilometers (km), from
Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha.
·
This is a new variant of the Nirbhay
LRLACM with improved features.
·
It was launched from a mobile articulated
launcher.
·
The LRLACM was developed by Bengaluru
(Karnataka)-based Aeronautical Development Establishment(ADE)
with contributions from other DRDO laboratories and other industries
·
DRDO also handed over the Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP)
of P-7 Parachute System to the Directorate General
of Quality Assurance (DGQA)
·
DRDO is an agency under the
Department of Defence Research and Development(DDR&D) in the Ministry of Defence(MoD).

EXERCISE
·
The
third edition of the joint military
exercise AUSTRAHIND commenced at the Foreign Training Node in Pune,
Maharashtra.
·
The
exercise is a key annual event held alternately in India and Australia.
·
The
previous edition of AUSTRAHIND took place in Australia in December 2023.
·
Exercise
is held in 2 Phases namely Combat
Conditioning and Tactical Training Phase and Validation
Phase

FIRST SPACE DEFENSE EXERCISE
ANTARIKSHA ABHYAS – 2024
·
Antariksha Abhyas – 2024 is a three-day space defense exercise
·
Organized by the Defence Space Agency under the Headquarters Integrated
Defence Staff, the exercise focuses on
simulating threats to and from space-based assets and services.
·
Purpose and Objectives of exercise is To enhance India’s capability to
secure its strategic interests in space.
9. RBI REPORT ON MANAGEMENT OF FOREIGN
EXCHANGE RESERVES
·
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released
its 43rd Half Yearly report from
April to September 2024 on Management of Foreign Exchange Reserves (MFER).
·
As per the report, India’s foreign exchange reserves position as on 18th October 2024
was projected at USD 688.27 billion, of which USD 598.24 billion in Foreign Currency
Assets (FCA), Gold
worth USD 67.44 billion, Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) of USD
18.27 billion and Reserve Tranche Position (RTP) of USD
4.32 billion.
·
According
to the RBI’s latest Half-Yearly report, FER has increased from USD 646.42
billion (as on 31st March, 2024) to USD 705.78 billion (as
on 30th September 2024),
·
The
report showed India’s FER on a balance of payments (BoP) basis,
excluding valuation effects, has increased by USD 5.2 billion during
April-June 2024 against the increase of USD 24.4 billion during the same period
of last year.
10.
RBI SET RS 300 CRORE NET WORTH CRITERIA FOR
ENTITIES APPLYING FOR CCP AUTHORISATION
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced
that any entity seeking authorisation or
recognition as a Central Counterparty (CCP) should
have at least net worth of Rs 300 crore at the time of submitting its applications.
·
RBI has updated its previous regulations
established in June 2019 regarding capital
requirements and governance frameworks for CCPs.
·
CCP is a system provider that uses novation to
interpose between system participants in the transactions admitted for
settlement. CCP becomes a buyer to every
seller and the seller to every buyer for the purpose of effecting
settlement of their transactions.

SBI NAMED BEST BANK IN INDIA FOR 2024
·
The
Global Finance Magazine of the United
States of America (USA) has recognised the State Bank of India (SBI)
as the Best Bank in India for 2024 during its 31st
Annual Best Bank Awards event held on the sidelines of Annual Meetings of the
IMF(International Monetary Fund) and the World Bank in Washington, the USA.

·
International Day of Radiology (IDoR) or
World Radiography Day is annually observed across the globe on 8
November to honors the vital role of radiographers and
radiological technologists in healthcare
·
IDoR was created to mark the anniversary
of the discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, a
German physicist and the winner of the first Nobel Prize in Physics (1901),
in 1895.
·
The theme for
IDoR 2024 is “ Radiographers: Seeing the

PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING DAY 2024 – NOVEMBER 12
·
Public Service Broadcasting Day (PSBD), also
known as Jan Prasaran Diwas, is annually observed
across India on 12th November to commemorate the first and only visit of Mahatma Gandhi to
the studio of the All India Radio (AIR), now known as
Akashvani in New Delhi(Delhi), in 1947.
·
After the partition of India and Pakistan,
Mahatma Gandhi visited the AIR studios at Broadcasting House, New Delhi to
address the refugees (from Pakistan) who were camped in Kurukshetra, Haryana.

16. WORLD PNEUMONIA DAY 2024 –
NOVEMBER 12
·
World Pneumonia Day is observed
every year on November 12 to raise awareness and
preventive measures about pneumonia.

theme of World Pneumonia Day 2024 is “Every
Breath Counts: Stop Pneumonia in Its Track”.
·
The 1st World Pneumonia Day was observed
on 12th November 2009 by the Global Coalition
against Child Pneumonia, which included UNICEF, WHO, and Save the Children
17. WORLD KINDNESS DAY 2024 – NOVEMBER 13
·
World Kindness Day (WKD)
was annually observed across the globe on 13th November to
encourage people to adopt empathy, kindness, and selflessness.
·
The idea of WKD was introduced
in 1997 when
the World Kindness Movement (WKM), a group of
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) focused on kindness, hosted the first conference in Tokyo, Japan to unite like-minded
organizations worldwide.
·
The
WKM includes representatives over 27 countries and registered as an NGO in
Switzerland in 2019.

WORLD DIABETES DAY 2024 – NOVEMBER 14
·
The United Nations (UN)’s World
Diabetes Day (WDD) is annually observed across the globe on 14
November to raise awareness about the impacts of diabetes, need
for prevention, early diagnosis, proper treatment and equal access to care.
·
The UN
theme for WDD 2024-26 is “Diabetes
and well-being”.
·
The
WHO theme for WDD 2024 is
“Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps”.
·
WDD
was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF)
and the World Health Organization (WHO) to address the growing
concerns about the health threat posed by diabetes.
