Duma Gideon Boko of Umbrella for
Democratic Change (UDC) coalition was declared as the 6th President
of Botswana by getting 25 out of 61 parliamentary seats.

He defeated Incumbent President Mokgweetsi Masis of
Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) who secured only one seat. BDP had been in
power since the country’s independence in 1966.

3. 47TH PRESIDENT OF USA
·
Donald John Trump of
the Republican Party was elected as the 47th
President of the United States of America (USA) securing
the popular vote and reaching the 295 electoral votes needed for victory.

He defeated Democrat Kamala Harris (226
electoral votes) and became the first Republican to have won USA Elections
by popular vote.
·
He has previously served as the 45th
President of USA from 2017 to 2021.

Donald John Trump will take over from Joe
Biden, incumbent President of USA, in January 2025.

Trump is the 1st former president to return to power since Grover

4. CHAIRMAN OF SSC
·
The
Government of India(GoI) has appointed a 1991-batch Indian
Administrative Service (IAS) officer, S. Gopalakrishnan as
the Chairman of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC)
·
Gopalakrishnan succeeded Rakesh Ranjan(1992-batch
IAS officer) who took the voluntary retirement from service (VRS).
5. PRESIDENT AND CO-PRESIDENT OF ISA

India and France have been elected as President and Co-President of
the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for a two-year term from 2024 to
2026.
·
India
was the sole candidate for the presidency, while France won the co-presidency
in a contest with Grenada.

The Seventh Session of the ISA Assembly is held in New Delhi

6. 19TH ICDRA IN NEW DELHI
·
The Central Drugs Standard Control
Organisation (CDSCO), Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare (MoHFW), India hosted the 19th International
Conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities (ICDRA) in
collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO).
·
This marks the first time India has hosted
the ICDRA since its inception in 1980.

8. 2024 GLOBAL MPI: 1.1 BILLION POOR
LIVE IN CONFLICT AREAS

According to the Global
Multidimensional Index Poverty Index (MPI) 2024: Poverty amid Conflict, 1.1
billion (18.3%) out of 6.1 billion people across 112 countries
live in acute multidimensional poverty and staggering 455 million (40%)
of the world’s poor live in countries experiencing war, fragility and/ or low
peacefulness

As per the report, India with 234
million people has the largest number of people living in
poverty, followed by Pakistan (93 million), Ethiopia (86 million), Nigeria (74
million) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) (66 million).
·
According
to the report, over half of the 1.1 billion poor people i.e. 584
million, are children under the age of 18. Globally,
approximately 28% of children live in poverty, compared with 13.5% of adults.

9. ASIA-PACIFIC MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE
ON DISASTER RISK REDUCTION
·
The Government of the
Philippines in partnership with the United Nations Office for
Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) hosted the 2024
Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) at
the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, the Philippines.

announced Australia as the “Country of
Focus” for the 55th edition of the
International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2024), scheduled to
take place in Panaji, Goa, in November 2024.

The “Country of Focus” is one of the key
features of IFFI, offering a dedicated showcase of the nation’s best
contemporary films.
·
IFFI,
founded in 1952, is one of Asia’s most significant film festivals, which offers
a platform for filmmakers to present their works. It is annually held in Goa to

WITH UZBEKISTAN’S CENTRAL ELECTION COMMISSION

The Election Commission of
India (ECI) signed an ‘electoral cooperation’ agreement
with Uzbekistan’s central poll body – Central Election
Commission during a visit of Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Rajiv
Kumar to Tashkent as international observer for the upcoming
elections.

14. ILO’S 352ND GOVERNING BODY MEETING
·
The
352nd Governing Body meeting of the International Labour Organisation
(ILO) held in Geneva.
·
ILO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) dedicated to
improving labor conditions and living standards throughout the world.
·
It was created in 1919, as part of the Treaty of Versailles that ended
World War I, to
reflect the belief that universal and lasting peace can be accomplished only if

15. SATELLITE
MISSION SHAKTHISAT TO EMPOWER 12,000 GIRLS IN 108 NATIONS
·
Chennai(Tamil
Nadu) based Indian Aerospace Startup Space Kidz India has
launched the ‘ShakthiSAT mission’, aiming to empower
12,000 girls across 108 countries through space technology training to foster
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education among girls.
·
The initiative includes 120
hours of online training for high school students aged 14-18,
focusing on space technology, payload development, and spacecraft systems.
·
Following
the online training, selected 108 students, one from each country, will
travel to India for hands-on experience in building payloads and spacecraft
prototypes from June to August 2025.
