USA,
JAPAN & SOUTH KOREA TO SUPPORT DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE IN INDIA
·
·
The
framework was signed between US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC),
the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and the
Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Eximbank–KEXIM) at
the DFC headquarters in Washington D.C., the USA.
·
This will
support the projects in the Information and Communications Technology(ICT)
sector such as 5G, Open Radio Access Network (RAN), submarine
cables, optical fibre networks, telecom towers, data
centres, smart city, e-commerce, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and quantum
technology.

BRAZIL OPTS OUT OF CHINA’S BELT AND
ROAD INITIATIVE

Brazil
has chosen not to join China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), becoming the
second member of the BRICS bloc, after India, to opt out of Beijing’s ambitious
multi-billion-dollar infrastructure project.

decision, is taken by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva

MOST POLLUTED CITY IN THE WORLD
·
Lahore has once again claimed the title of
the most polluted city globally, with the Air
Quality Index (AQI) soaring to alarming levels.
·
Recently
recorded at a staggering 708, the PM2.5 levels reached an unprecedented 431 µg/m³, significantly
exceeding the World Health
Organization’s recommended annual limit by 86 times.

NCPCR REPORT ON CHILD MARRIAGE

As
per the report, Uttar Pradesh (UP) with over
5 lakh vulnerable children, topped among the states, followed
by Assam with 1.5 lakh children and Madhya
Pradesh (MP) has nearly 1 lakh such children.
·
UTs
like Lakshadweep and Andaman &
Nicobar Islands has identified
no children vulnerable to child marriage.
·
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) It is
the statutory body established under
the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005 under the
administrative control of the Ministry of Women and Child Development
(MoW&CD).

WORLD JUSTICE PROJECT’S RULE OF LAW
INDEX 2024
·
The
World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2024 reveals that India ranks 79th out of 142 countries,
reflecting a continuing decline in the rule of law globally.
·
For
the seventh consecutive year, rule
of law scores declined in 57% of
countries worldwide, attributed mainly to authoritarian trends and a decline in Fundamental Rights.
·
Regionally, India holds the 3rd
position among 6
South Asian countries.
·
Among lower-middle-income countries, India ranked 8th out of 38.
·
Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Germany top the list,
·
Venezuela, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Haiti, and Myanmar rank the lowest.
·
Within
South Asia, India ranked third after Nepal
(69) and Sri Lanka (75), followed by
Bangladesh (127) Pakistan (129) and Afghanistan (140).
·
Venezuela
got the lowest rank and placed at 142.

HARRY MESSEL AWARD FOR CONSERVATION
LEADERSHIP
·
Assam-based
conservation scientist Bibhab Kumar Talukdar has been awarded the prestigious
Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership by the Species Survival
Commission (SSC) of the International
Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Abu Dhabi.
·
Talukdar
has been an influential conservationist associated with IUCN SSC since 1991 and
became Chair of the Asian Rhino
Specialist Group in 2008.
·
Talukdar
has played a pivotal role in organizing three Asian Rhino States meetings in Indonesia, India, and Nepal, resulting
in a landmark commitment to protect Asian rhino species.

Amitabh Bachchan recently honored renowned Telugu film star Chiranjeevi at the ANR
National Awards 2024, an event organized by the Akkineni International
Foundation.

This prestigious award recognizes artists for their

14. MAJOR SPORTS DROPPED FROM
COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2026
·
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) announced
that wrestling, badminton, hockey,
cricket and shooting, among other major
sports, have been dropped from the Commonwealth Games 2026 (CWG 2026).
·
The 23rd edition
of CWG is scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland in August, 2026.
·
Table
Tennis (TT), Squash
and Triathlon have also been excluded
in a bid to limit the cost and streamline logistics as only 4 venues will host the entire CWG 2026.
·
With
this, total number of sport events has
reduced to 10 compared to 19 sports events at the 2022 Birmingham CWG.

unveiled the logo and tagline
– #TheWorldGoesKho, for the inaugural Kho Kho World
Cup set to take place in 2025

the men’s and women’s divisions

tournament will introduce new rules, including

becoming only the third Indian wrestler to win the Under-23 World Championship

India placed fourth in the overall team rankings with 82
