1. USA IS LARGEST SOURCE OF FDI IN INDIA
·
According to the annual Census on Foreign Liabilities and Assets of
Indian Direct Investment Entities for 2023-24 from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the
United States of America (USA) continued to be the largest source ofForeign Direct Investment
(FDI) in India, followed by Mauritius, Singapore and
the United Kingdom (UK).

The latest census has covered a total
41,653 entities, of which, 37,407 reported FDI and/or Overseas
Direct Investment (ODI) in their balance sheets for March 2024.
·
As
per the RBI census, Non-Financial Companies
(NFC) constituted for approximately 90% of the
total FDI equity at face value.
·
It
showed that total FDI in India increased by 23.3% at
market-value in rupee terms during the Financial Year 2023-24(FY24), mainly due
to large valuation gains as well as fresh FDI inflows while, the ODI growth was
much lower at 3.4%.
2. UJJIVAN SFB RECEIVES RBI APPROVAL FOR
FOREIGN EXCHANGE SERVICES

Bangalore (Karnataka) based Ujjivan
Small Finance Bank
Limited (Ujjivan SFB) received approval from the Reserve
Bank of India (RBI) for foreign exchange services, enabling it
to offer a range of foreign exchange (forex) products and
services.

USFB received the ‘Authorised
Dealer Category 1 licence’ granted under Section 10(1) of the
Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999

World Arthritis Day (WAD) is
annually observed across the globe on 12th October to
raise awareness about Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases (RMDs),
their prevention and the importance of accessing effective treatments for
arthritis.
·
The
theme of WAD 2024 is “Informed Choices, Better
Outcomes”.
·
World
Arthritis Day was first established in 1996 by
Arthritis and Rheumatism International (ARI).
5. WORLD SIGHT DAY 2024 – OCTOBER

World Sight Day (WSD), also
known as World Eye Day or World Vision Day, is observed annually on the second
Thursday of October across the globe to focus global attention on
blindness and vision impairment.
·
It is coordinated
by the London(the United Kingdom, UK) based International Agency for the
Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and the Geneva(Switzerland) based World Health Organization(WHO).
·
The
theme of the WSD 2024 is “Children, Love Your
Eyes”.

6. GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY 2024 – OCTOBER

The Global Handwashing Day(GHD) is
annually observed across the globe on 15th October to raise awareness about the
importance of handwashing with soap and water in preventing the spread of
infections and diseases.
·
The
theme of Global Handwashing Day 2024 is “Why
are clean hands still important?”.
·
Global
Handwashing Day(GHD) was initiated by the Global Handwashing Partnership (GHP)
in August 2008 during the annual World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden.
7. WORLD IODINE DEFICIENCY DAY 2024-21
OCTOBER

Iodine deficiency primarily results in hypothyroidism, which
is characterized by an underactive thyroid gland due to insufficient iodine intake.
·
Goitre, an enlargement of the thyroid gland, is typically the
earliest clinical sign of iodine deficiency.
·
To expand the scope of addressing iodine deficiency, the NGCP
was restructured in 1992 as the National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Programme
(NIDDCP).
8. UNITED NATIONS DAY 2024-24 OCTOBER
·
The United Nations was officially established on October 24,
1945, after the UN Charter was ratified by a majority of signatories, including
the five permanent members of the Security Council: the United States, the
United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, China, and France.
·
The idea of forming an international body to prevent wars was
initially conceptualized during World War II, and the first official proposal
came in 1941 through the Atlantic Charter.
·
It laid the foundation for the United Nations, which was
later developed through a series of conferences, most notably the San Francisco
Conference in 1945, where the UN Charter was drafted.
9. WORLD POLIO DAY 2024- 24

Poliovirus, the cause of polio, is a life-threatening virus
that can lead to paralysis and, in severe cases, death.
·
There are three types of wild polioviruses: Wild Poliovirus
Type 1 (WPV1), Wild Poliovirus Type 2 (WPV2), and Wild Poliovirus Type 3
(WPV3).
·
World Polio Day was established in 1985 by Rotary
International to commemorate the efforts of Dr. Jonas Salk
·
Although polio has been eradicated from the majority of the
world the disease is primarily found in Pakistan and Afghanistan, which remain
the only countries where wild poliovirus still exists.
·
India was declared polio-free in 2014
