1.       WORLD VEGETARIAN DAY 2024- OCTOBER 1

·         World Vegetarian Day (WVD) is annually celebrated across the globe on October 1 to encourage people to enjoy vegetarian food and highlights the benefits of living a vegetarian lifestyle.

·         World Vegetarian Day also marks the beginning of Vegetarian Awareness Month, which runs from October 1 to November 1 (World Vegan Day).

 

2.       70TH WILDLIFE WEEK – 2ND TO 8TH OCTOBER 2024

·         Wildlife Week is annually observed across India from 2nd to 8th of October to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and protecting India’s rich biodiversity.

·         The theme of Wildlife Week 2024 is “Wildlife Conservation through Coexistence”.

 


3.       WORLD SPACE WEEK 2024 – 4TH TO 10TH OCTOBER

·         The United Nations (UN)’s World Space Week (WSW) is annually observed across the globe from 4th to 10th of October to motivate and unite people worldwide, emphasizing the strong collaboration between space technology and climatic science.

·         The theme of World Space Week 2024 is “Space and Climatic Change”.

4.       WORLD HABITAT DAY 2024 – OCTOBER 7

·         The United Nations (UN)’s World Habitat Day (WHD) is annually observed across the globe on the first Monday of October to reflect the condition of our habitats and to emphasize the fundamental right of every individual to adequate shelter.

·         The theme of WHD 2024 is “Engaging youth to create a better urban future”.

·         The WHD 2024 global ceremony was held in Mexico at the “Educational Cultural Center of the state of Querétaro”.

·         The WHD was first celebrated in 1986 with the theme “Shelter is My Right“. The city of Nairobi in Kenya hosted it.

 

5.       WORLD EGG DAY 2024 – OCTOBER 11

·         The theme of WED 2024 is “United by Eggs”.

·         INTERNATIONAL EGG COMMISSION (IEC)is the only organisation that represents the global egg industry.

6.       World Statistics Day 2024 - 20TH OCTOBER

·         The first World Statistics Day was celebrated on October 20, 2010, following a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.

·         The theme for World Statistics Day 2024, Empowering Decision-Makers Through Data

 

7.       RAISING DAY OF NATIONAL SECURITY GUARD- 16 OCTOBER

·         The NSG was established on October 16, 1984, in the aftermath of Operation Blue Star, aimed at eliminating Sikh extremists from the Golden Temple of Amritsar.

·         Motto of NSGSarvatra Sarvottam Suraksha,” meaning “Best Security Everywhere.”

 

8.       WORLD ANAESTHESIA DAY 2024 - 16 OCTOBER

·         World Anaesthesia Day is celebrated annually on October 16 to highlight the vital role of anaesthesia in modern medicine.

·         The theme for World Anaesthesia Day 2024 is “Workforce Well Being.”

 

9.       INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ERADICATION OF POVERTY-17 OCTOBER

·         The origin of this day dates back to October 17, 1987, when more than 100,000 people gathered at the Trocadéro in Paris, the same location where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948.

·         2024 Theme: “Ending Social and Institutional Maltreatment”

 

10.    WORLD STUDENT’S DAY 2024-15 OCTOBER

·         Every year on October 15, World Students’ Day is observed to honor the life and contributions of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, a visionary leader, educator, and former President of India. Known as the “Missile Man of India,”

 

11.    WORLD FOOD DAY-16 OCTOBER

·         Theme for 2024: Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future

·         Food and Agriculture Organization Headquarters: Rome, Italy

 

12.    WORLD STANDARDS DAY -14 OCTOBER

·         In 2024, the theme for World Standards Day is “Shared Vision For a Better World”

·         The concept of World Standards Day dates back to 1946, when 25 countries came together in London for the first time to discuss the creation of an international organization focused on standardization.

·         The following year, in 1947, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was established.

·         However, it wasn’t until 1970 that Faruk Sunter, then-president of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), officially initiated the celebration of World Standards Day.

 

13.    BREAST CANCER AWARENESS DAY- 13 OCTOBER

·         In 2024, the campaign’s theme is “No one should face breast cancer alone”,

 

14.    INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RURAL WOMEN-15 OCTOBER

·         In 2024, the theme for this significant day is “Rural Women Sustaining Nature for Our Collective Future: Building climate resilience, conserving biodiversity, and caring for land towards gender equality and empowerment of women and girls.

 

15.    DR P. VENUGOPAL PASSED AWAY

·         Padma Bhushan Awardee Dr. Panangipalli Venugopal, a prominent cardiac surgeon and the Former Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), passed away at the age of 82 in New Delhi

·         The government of India honoured him with Padma Bhushan in 1998 for his contribution to the field of Medicine.

·         He performed the 1st heart transplantation in India on 3rd August 1994 and Asia’s first Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation, which lasted over 90 days.

·         He introduced stem cell therapy in India for repairing heart tissue and developed a procedure for treating Type II Diabetes.

·         His memoir titled “Heartfelt – A Cardiac Surgeon’s Pioneering Journey”, co-authored with his wife, Priya Sarkar, was published in 2023.
