The United Nations (UN)’s
World Habitat Day (WHD) is annually observed across the globe
on the first Monday of October to reflect the
condition of our habitats and to emphasize the fundamental right of every
individual to adequate shelter.

theme of WHD 2024 is “Engaging youth to create a
better urban future”.
·
The WHD 2024 global ceremony was held
in Mexico at the “Educational Cultural Center of the
state of Querétaro”.

WHD was first celebrated in 1986 with

of World Standards Day dates back to 1946, when 25 countries came together in London for the first time to discuss
the creation of an international organization focused on standardization.

The following year, in 1947, the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) was established.
·
However, it wasn’t until 1970 that Faruk Sunter, then-president of the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), officially initiated the celebration of World Standards Day.

DR P. VENUGOPAL PASSED AWAY
·
Padma Bhushan Awardee Dr.
Panangipalli Venugopal, a prominent cardiac surgeon and the Former Director of All India Institute of
Medical Sciences (AIIMS), passed away at the age of 82 in
New Delhi
·
The government of India honoured him
with Padma Bhushan in 1998 for
his contribution to the field of Medicine.
·
He
performed the 1st heart transplantation in India on
3rd August 1994 and Asia’s first Left Ventricular
Assist Device (LVAD) implantation, which lasted over 90 days.
·
He
introduced stem cell therapy in India for repairing
heart tissue and developed a procedure for treating Type II Diabetes.
·
His
memoir titled “Heartfelt – A Cardiac Surgeon’s Pioneering Journey”,
co-authored with his wife, Priya Sarkar, was published in 2023.
