1.       FORTUNE 100 MOST POWERFUL WOMEN IN BUSINESS

·         Fortune, an American global business magazine, released the latest list of ‘2024 100 Most Powerful Women (MPW) in Business’, which has featured 100 leading business women across various sectors of business such as: finance, technology, health care, telecommunication, retail, energy, and other industries.

·         Mary Barra, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the USA based General Motors (GM) has topped the 2024 MPW in Business list and has featured on the list for the 13th time.

·         Karen S. Lynch, President and CEO of Customer Value Store (CVS) Health Corporation, USA, has been ranked at 2nd position

·         Jane Fraser, CEO of Citigroup Inc, USA, Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture, USA ranked at 3rd and 4th  position respectively.

 

2.       FORBES’ INDIA’S 100 RICHEST 2024 LIST

·         Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has retained the top spot on Forbes India’s 100 Richest 2024 List with an estimated net worth of USD 119.5 billion across diversified assets, up by USD 27.5 billion compared to USD 92 billion in 2023.

·         Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group , was ranked 2nd on the list with an estimated net worth of  USD 116 billion.

·         He is followed by Savitri Jindal, the matriarch of the OP Jindal Group, jumped by 1 place to 3rd position on the list for the 1st time with a net worth of USD 43.7 billion, up by USD 19.7 billion from 2023.

3.       PSLV-37 UPPER STAGE MAKES SAFE RE-ENTRY  IN EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE

·         The successful re-entry of Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) upper stage of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C-37 (PSLV C-37) into Earth’s atmosphere was made on October 6, 2024.

·         This marks a significant milestone in ISRO’s efforts and aim to achieve a Debris Free Space Mission (DFSM) by 2030 through ongoing proactive measures.

·         The re-entry within eight years aligns with international debris mitigation guidelines of Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) specifically limiting the post-mission lifespan of defunct objects in Low-Earth orbit (LEO) to 25 years.

·         PSLV-C37, launched on 15th February 2017, set a record by deploying 104 satellites, including the primary payload Cartosat-2D and 103 co-passengers.

 

4.       GRSE DELIVERED INS NIRDESHAK

·         Kolkata (West Bengal, WB)-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Limited delivered Indian Naval Ship (INS) Nirdeshak (Yard 3026), the second of four Survey Vessel Large (SVL) ships, to the Indian Navy (IN).

·         In December 2023, GRSE Limited had delivered (INS) Sandhayak (Yard 3025), the 1st of four SVL ships, to the IN.

·         It has an overall length of 110 meters (m), with displacement of about 3400 tons. It has an indigenous content of over 80% by cost.

·         The ship is powered two marine diesel engines and can achieve speeds in excess of 18 knots.

 

5.       USA APPROVES 53 MK-54 TORPEDOES TO INDIA

·         The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the Government of the United States of America (USA), has approved the sale of 53 MK-54 lightweight torpedoes All-Up Rounds (AURs) to India.

·         These torpedoes are valued at approximately USD 175 million (Rs 14.7 billion).

·         The torpedoes are intended for use with India’s MH-60R Seahawk helicopters to enhance naval capabilities.

·         The MK 54 torpedo is an advanced lightweight weapon developed by Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems in collaboration with the US Navy.

·         It can be launched from various platforms, including surface ships, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters.

·         It has replacing the older Mark 46 torpedo.

 

6.       IBSAMAR VIII MARITIME EXERCISE

·         Indian Naval Ship (INS) Talwar, frontline stealth frigate of Indian Navy (IN) arrived at Simon’s Town in South Africa (SA) to participate in the 8th edition of India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime (IBSAMAR VIII), a joint multinational maritime exercise among the navies of India, Brazil and South Africa.

·         This exercise takes place right before the upcoming 2024 BRICS Summit in Russia.

·         The exercise is based on Blue Water Naval Warfare, covering the dimensions of Surface and Anti-Air Warfare.

 

7.       INDIAN ARMY UNVEILS ITS FIRST UPGRADED T-90 ‘BHISHMA’ TANK

·         The Indian Army (IA) unveiled its first upgraded T-90 ‘Bhishma’ tank, marking a significant move toward enhancing the operational capabilities of its armored units.

·         The rollout ceremony was attended by the Chief of the Army Staff(CoAS) of  the IA, Upendra Dwivedi.

·         The T-90 tanks, manufactured under a license agreement with Russia, are produced at the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) in Avadi, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu(TN).

·         The IA has ordered 1,657 T-90 tanks and currently operates around 1,300 units. The first set is now undergoing a significant overhaul.

·         The next round of testing for the upgraded T-90 ‘Bhishma’ tank will include missile firing.

·         The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) plans to complete various trials by January 2025.

 

8.       IN LAUNCHES MISSILE-CUM-AMMUNITION BARGE LSAM 12

·         https://affairscloud.com/assets/plugins/wccp-pro/images/transparent.gifThe Indian Navy (IN) launched the ‘Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 12 (Landing Ship Ammunition) (Yard 80)’, which will enhance its naval logistics and firepower.

·         This is the sixth vessel of 8 Missile Cum Ammunition Barge project, aimed at strengthening the Navy’s operational capabilities.

·         It is built by M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL), Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

 

9.       SAGAR KAVACH’ COASTAL SECURITY DRILL

·         The Indian Coast Guard successfully conducted the coastal security exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ covering Gujarat, Daman & Diu, as well as Goa and Maharashtra.

·         The exercise included active participation from agencies like the Navy, Border Security Force (BSF), National Security Guard (NSG), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and others, utilizing ships, boats, drones, and aircraft for surveillance.

 

10.    INDIA’S FIRST INDIGENOUS MULTI-PURPOSE VESSEL ‘SAMARTHAK’

·         The Indian Navy launched the first ship, ‘Samarthak,’ under the Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV) project at L&T Shipyard in Kattupalli, Chennai.

·         The MPV, measuring 106 meters in length and 16.8 meters in width, can achieve a maximum speed of 15 knots.

 

11.     ‘2024 IACP 40 UNDER 40’

·         The United States of America(USA) based International Association of Chiefs of Police(IACP) selected an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Pritpal Kaur, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Phek district(Nagaland) for ‘2024 IACP 40 Under 40’ award.

·         She is the only Indian selected for this year award.

·         Pritpal Kaur is among 40 police officers selected from 6 countries around the world for the award.

·         The professionals chosen as the ‘40 Under 40’ awardees represent the rising leaders of policing, regardless of rank or title, and have served their agencies, colleagues, and communities with excellence

·         She considers her tribal name ‘Themshao Lam’, given by the Khaimnuingan Naga community as one of her greatest honours.

·         The Khiamnuingans primarily inhabit the Noklak district in Nagaland.

12.    ASIA HRD LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

·         Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin (MK Stalin), Chief Minister (CM) of Tamil Nadu (TN), was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award by the Asia Human Resource Development (Asia HRD) Academy in recognistion of his exceptional contributions to Human Resource (HR) management.

·         The Awards are presented in 5 categories – Lifetime Achievement, Contribution to Society, Contribution to Organisation, Contribution to HR Community, Movers and Shakers — of which, each has its own set of criteria.

·         The recipients of each category are decided based on the detailed biography, occupation and achievement record of the nominees.

 

13.    SEEMS AWARD: GUJARAT’S SVPI AIRPORT WON PLATINUM AWARD

·         Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad (Gujarat), managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, has won the Platinum Award in the Airport Sector under Facility Category at the Society of Energy Engineers and Managers (SEEMAwards held in New Delhi

·         The award highlights the airport’s dedication towards creating a greener and more sustainable airport facility.

·         SVPI airport won the award for its sustainable and energy-efficient initiatives like installing an efficient centrifugal chiller, resulting in 30% energy saving.

 

14.    UNHCR’S NANSEN REFUGEE AWARD

·         Sister Rosita Milesi (79), Brazilian nun, lawyer and social worker was honoured with the 2024 United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Nansen Refugee Award’s Global Laureate for championing the rights and dignity of refugees and migrants of different nationalities in Brazil for nearly four decades.

·         Regional Winners 2024: Maimouna Ba (from Africa region), Jin Davod (from Europe region); Nada Fadol (from Middle East and North Africa region); Deepti Gurung (from Asia-Pacific region).

15.    PATRICK J. MCGOVERN AWARDS

·         Narayana Murthy, the Founder of Infosys, received the India Lifetime Achievement Award for his groundbreaking contributions to the tech industry.

·         Shantanu Narayen, Chair and CEO of Adobe, was awarded the Global Lifetime Achievement Award,

·         Abhinav Asthana, CEO and Founder of Postman, received the Exceptional Entrepreneurial Achievement Award.

·         The awards honor the legacy of Patrick J. McGovern, a pioneer in technology media and an early supporter of Indian entrepreneurship.

 

16.    9TH CONSCIOUS COMPANIES AWARDS

·         Mohanji, a global humanitarian leader, received a special recognition for his worldwide contributions at the 9th Conscious Companies Awards event held in Johannesburg, South Africa

 

17.    NATIONAL KISHORE KUMAR AWARD 2023

·         The renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani was conferred with the prestigious National Kishore Kumar Award for the year 2023.

·         The award ceremony took place in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, the birthplace of Kishore Kumar, on the occasion of the 37th death anniversary of the iconic singer.

·         National Kishore Kumar Award was instituted by the Madhya Pradesh Government’s Department of Culture in 1997.

·         This prestigious recognition comes with a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh

 

18.    V&A ILLUSTRATION AWARDS.

·         Aditi Anand, a graduate from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), has been named the winner of the prestigious Emerging Illustrator category at the V&A Illustration Awards.

·         Her artwork, Marigolds, is set in India and highlights the theme of child labor and lost childhoods.

·         The V&A Illustration Awards, which are held biennially and Aditi’s success further solidifies ARU’s strong reputation in the field of illustration.

 

19.    5TH NATIONAL WATER AWARDS 2023

·         In the Best State category, Odisha has claimed the top prize for its exceptional work in water resource management and sustainability.

·         Uttar Pradesh secured second place, while Gujarat and Puducherry were honored as joint third-place winners.

·         The awards were given in 9 categories, recognizing contributions from states, districts, village panchayats, schools, colleges, industries, water user associations, institutions, and civil society organizations.

20.    IAF WORLD SPACE AWARD

·         Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has been honored with the prestigious International Astronautical Federation (IAF) World Space Award.

·         This accolade was awarded in recognition of the remarkable success of Chandrayaan-3, India’s lunar mission that made history with its soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole.
