1.       NEW CM OF UT J&Khttps://affairscloud.com/assets/plugins/wccp-pro/images/transparent.gif

·         Omar Abdullah Vice President (VP) of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) was officially sworn-in as new Chief Minister (CM) of Union Territory (UT) Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). H

·         He became the CM of J&K for the 2nd time.

·         With this, he becomes the 1st CM of UT J&K since the abrogation of Article 370 by the Government of India (GoI) in 2019.

·         Surinder Kumar Choudhary took oath as the Deputy CM of UT J&K.

·         The JKNC-INC alliance won the elections by securing 48 out of 90 assembly seats which went for elections.

·         JKNC emerged as the single largest party with 42 seats, of which 35 seats won from Kashmir valley and 7 seats won from Jammu division.

·         Its alliance partner INC won 6 seats.

·         J&K Capital- Jammu (in winter) and Srinagar (in summer)

2.       NAYAB SAINI SWORN IN AS HARYANA CM

·         Nayab Singh Saini took oath as Haryana Chief Minister for the second time, leading the BJP to a historic third consecutive term.

·         His 13-member cabinet was sworn in

·         Saini, a Dalit leader from Kurukshetra, led the BJP to victory in the Assembly elections, securing 48 seats in the 90-member house.

 


3.       NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL OF INDIAN COAST GUARD

·         S. Paramesh officially took charge as the Director General (DG) of the Indian Coast Guard at its headquarters in New Delhi.

 

4.       NATIONAL BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR CYBER SAFETY

·         Rashmika Mandanna, the popular film actor, has been appointed as the national brand ambassador of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

·         This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), aims to combat the rising threats of cyber crimes across the nation.

 

5.       HEIR TO JAMNAGAR ROYAL THRONE

·         Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been officially declared the heir to the throne of Jamnagar by his uncle, the Maharaja Shatrushalyasinh Jadeja.

 

6.       FEMINA MISS INDIA 2024

·         Nikita Porwal from Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the winner of the Femina Miss India 2024 title.

·         This prestigious event took place in Mumbai, marking the 60th edition of India’s iconic beauty pageant.

·         She will represent India at the upcoming Miss World pageant.

·         Rekha Pandey is 1st Runner-up, and Aayushi Dholakia is 2nd Runner-up

 

7.       PRESIDENT MURMU AWARDED HONORARY DOCTORATE IN ALGERIA

·         President Droupadi Murmu, received an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science from Sidi Abdellah Science and Technology Pole University in Algiers

 

8.       INDIA’S 1ST MODERN GAUSHALA - ‘LAL TIPARA GAUSHALA’,

·         Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the ‘Lal Tipara Gaushala’, India’s first modern and self-reliant Gaushala (cow shelter) with Bio Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) plant in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh(MP).

·         The Gaushala was established over 2 hectares in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

 

9.       NAGALAND PARTNERS WITH WALES FOR 25TH HORNBILL FESTIVAL

·         The Government of Nagaland has signed Wales, a country which is a part of the United Kingdom(UK), as one of the Country Partners for the 25th Hornbill Festival. 

·         The Hornbill Festival is an annual festival celebrated from 1st to 10th December 2024 in Nagaland.

·         It is a celebration of the Naga heritage and culture, and is also known as the “Festival of Festivals”.

 

10.    WEF’S GLOBAL LIGHTHOUSE NETWORK

·         Noida, Uttar Pradesh (UP)-based Jubilant Ingrevia Limited, science products and innovative solutions provider, has become the latest Indian firm to join as the member of the Global Lighthouse Network (GLN) of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

·         Jubilant Ingrevia is the only Indian firm among the cohort of 2024 welcomed by the WEF.

·         GLN is an initiative co-founded by the WEF and McKinsey & Company in 2018, aimed at recognizing leading manufacturing facilities

·         It is a community of 172 industry leaders pioneering the use of cutting-edge Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies in manufacturing.

·         Other India-based units in this network are of ReNew, Cipla, Ceat, Dr Reddy’s, Mondelez International, Unilever, ACG, Schneider Electric and Tata Steel.

·         The newest group represent 10 countries: China, the Czech Republic, Germany, India, Mexico, Singapore, Sweden, Türkiye, and newcomers Switzerland and Vietnam.

 

11.    “SCAM SE BACHO” CAMPAIGN

·         The “Scam se Bacho” campaign was launched by Secretary Sanjay Jaju in New Delhi.

·         This initiative, developed by Meta in collaboration with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

 

12.    INDIA’S FIRST SELF-POWERED INDOOR AIR QUALITY MONITOR

·         Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, has inaugurated Pavana Chitra, India’s first self-powered indoor air quality monitoring facility, located at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

·         The facility is self-powered and uses indigenous solar cells developed by CSIR-NIIST.

 

13.    INDIA’S SECOND LARGEST BUTTERFLY DIVERSITY HUB

·         Kaziranga National Park, renowned for its iconic one-horned rhinoceros, has now gained recognition as India’s second-largest butterfly diversity hub.

·         Following Namdapha National Park in Arunachal Pradesh, Kaziranga is home to an impressive 446 butterfly species.

·         The first-ever ‘Butterfly Conservation Meet-2024’ was held in September to focus on the detailed study of butterfly species in Kaziranga.

·         Kaziranga National Park  is located in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam.

·         It was declared a national park in 1974.

·         It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and houses two-thirds of the total world population of greater one-horned rhinoceros.

 

14.    SUPREME COURT’S JUSTICE STATUE REMOVES BLINDFOLD

·         Traditionally, Lady Justice was portrayed with a blindfold, symbolizing impartiality and equality before the law.

·         The new statue, however, has its eyes open, symbolizing that justice is not blind in India, but instead aware, conscious, and empathetic.

·         The sword, a traditional symbol of authority and punishment, has been replaced by the Indian Constitution.

·         The scales,(Taraju) a symbol of fairness and balance, remain in the new statue. 

·         Articles 124 to 147 in Part V of the Indian Constitution deal with the provisions related to the Supreme Court of India.

·         The Constitution of India empowers the Parliament to increase or decrease the number of judges of the SC.

·         The Supreme Court of India was established on January 28, 1950, two days after India became a republic with the adoption of its Constitution on January 26, 1950.

 

15.    COLOMBIA SIGN AUDIO-VISUAL CO-PRODUCTION AGREEMENT WITH INDIA

·         India and Colombia signed an Audio-Visual Co-Production Agreement to enhance collaboration in film production and strengthen cultural ties, and goodwill between the two nations.

·         With this, Colombia becomes the 17th country to sign such an agreement with India.

·         India has established co-production treaties with 16 countries (now 17) over the years, leading to 29 projects in the last 5 years.

 

16.    WHO DECLARES THAT INDIA HAS ELIMINATED TRACHOMA

·         The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that the Government of India (GoI) has eliminated Trachoma as a public health problem.

·         India received this honour at the 77th Regional Conference of World Health Organization (WHO) South East Asia Region held in New Delhi.

·         It has become the 3rd country in the South-East Asia Region after Nepal and Myanmar to secure this milestone.

·         Trachoma is an eye disease caused by infection with the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis.

17.    149th INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION (IPU) ASSEMBLY

·         Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently addressed the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held at the IPU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

·         The theme for this year’s assembly was “Harnessing Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for a more peaceful and sustainable future.”

·         Jamaica’s rejoining as the 181st Member Parliament.

·         Jamaica had previously been a member of the IPU from 1983 to 1996.

·         He IPU currently comprises 181 national Member Parliaments and 15 regional parliamentary bodies, enhancing its global representation.

·         The Inter-Parliamentary Union was initially established as the Inter-Parliamentary Conference on June 30, 1889, in Paris, France.

·         It was renamed to its current title in 1899.

·         The establishment of the IPU is credited to Fredric Passey, the first Nobel Peace Prize winner from France, and William Randal Cremer, an Englishman.

 

18.    MOST VALUABLE FOOD BRANDS IN 2024

·         Nestle of Switzerland, with the revenue of $20,769 million, holds the title of the most valuable food brand in 2024, 

·         It is followed by Lay’s, Yili and Tyson.

 

19.    MONITORED WILDLIFE POPULATIONS DECREASED WWF REPORT

·         The World Wide Fund for Nature/WWF (Formerly World Wildlife Fund), released 15th edition of its biennial assessment ‘2024 Living Planet Report- A system in Peril’ stating that the average size of monitored wildlife populations has decreased by 73% in just 50 years (1970-2020).

·         The WWF uses the Living Planet Index (LPI), provided by ZSL (Zoological Society of London), to track wildlife population trends, covering nearly 35,000 populations of 5,495 species from 1970 to 2020.

·         The steepest declines in wildlife populations are in Latin America and the Caribbean (95%), Africa (76%), and Asia-Pacific (60%).

20.    GLOBAL HUNGER INDEX 2024

·         According to the 19th edition of Global Hunger Index (GHI 2024): How Gender Justice Can Advance Climate Resilience and Zero Hunger’, India has been ranked at 105th position among 127 countries with an overall score of 27.3. 

·         India has improved its ranking by 6 places, from 111th (2023).

·         As per the report, India is among 42 countries that have been placed under the “serious” category for hunger levels, alongside Pakistan (109th) and Afghanistan (116th).

·         The 2024 GHI score for the world is 18.3, which is considered moderate, has decreased marginally from the 2016 GHI score of 18.8.

·         13.7% of India’s population is undernourished, meaning they do not have access to sufficient caloric intake.

·         35.5% of Indian children under five are stunted, reflecting chronic undernutrition.

·         18.7% of Indian children under five suffer from wasting, a sign of acute undernutrition where children have low weight for their height.

·         2.9% of Indian children die before reaching their fifth birthday due to a combination of inadequate nutrition and unhealthy living environments.

·         733 million people globally face hunger each day, while 2.8 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet.

·         The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is a peer-reviewed report, published on an annual basis by Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe.

·         Top 5 worst performing countries: Somalia (127th), Yemen (126th), Chad (125th), Madagascar (124th), Democratic Republic of Congo (123rd).
