1. RBI MONETARY POLICY MEETING 2024
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has
decided to keep the repo rate unchanged
at 6.5% for the tenth consecutive time.
·
This decision reflects a shift in the monetary
policy stance from ‘withdrawal of
accommodation’ to ‘neutral.’
·
MPC
Voting: The decision to maintain the repo rate was reached
with a majority vote of 5 out of 6 members in favour.
·
The RBI forecasted inflation for the third quarter of FY25 at 4.8% and a decline to 4.2% in the fourth quarter.
·
Retail inflation for FY25 was projected at 4.5%
·
The inflation
rate for Q1FY26 is expected to be 4.3%
·
The RBI maintained its GDP growth estimate for FY25 at 7.2%
·
The reverse
repo rate was maintained at 3.35%.
·
The Standing
Deposit Facility (SDF) and Marginal
Standing Facility (MSF) rates remained unchanged
at 6.25% and 6.75%, respectively.
2.
ADB APPROVES USD 162 MN LOAN FOR
HIMACHAL PRADESH
·
The Asian Development Bank (ADB)
approved a USD 162 million loan to support
sustainable and inclusive tourism development projects in Himachal
Pradesh(HP).
·
This project aims to improve district-level tourism management and to
develop destination plans and tourist sites in HP. in the districts of Mandi, Hamirpur, Kullu,
Hamirpur, and Kangra.
3. DIGILOCKER PARTNERS WITH UMANG APP
·
Digi Locker, a secure cloud-based
platform for document storage and verification, has integrated with the UMANG
app to enhance access to various government services.
·
This collaboration aims to simplify citizen
interactions with the government, enabling users to manage multiple services
through a single platform.

INTERNATIONAL WEEK OF DEAF PEOPLE 2024 – 23 TO 29 SEPTEMBER
·
The
theme of IWDP 2024 is “Sign up for Sign
Language Rights”.

International Day of the Deaf is annually observed across the world
on the last Sunday of September.

WORLD HEART DAY – SEPTEMBER 29 2024
·
The
theme of World Heart Day 2024 is “Use Heart for
Action”.
·

Idea of World Heart Day(WHD) was introduced by Antoni Baie de Luna, former
President of the WHF (1997-1999).
·
The
first ever WHD was observed on 24th September 2000.
·
WHF
is a global non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to the prevention and
control of CVDs.
·

6. WORLD COTTON DAY 2024-7 OCT
·
The inception of World Cotton Day can be
traced back to the collaborative efforts of the “Cotton Four” nations—Burkina Faso, Benin, Chad, and Mali alongside
other African cotton-producing countries.

The inaugural World Cotton Day event
took place in Geneva on October 7, 2019
7. WORLD HABITAT DAY 2024 - 7 OCT
·
World Habitat Day, celebrated annually
on the first Monday of October
·
Established by the United Nations
General Assembly in 1985, the day serves as a reminder that everyone deserves a
safe, decent, and affordable place to live.
·
This year the day was celebrated on the
7th of October.
·

Theme of World Habitat Day 2024: “Engaging Youth to Create a Better Urban

8. INDIAN AIR FORCE DAY 2024-8 OCT

Theme
“Girls’ Vision for the Future”
·
The fight for girls’ rights reached a
significant milestone in 1995 at the World Conference on Women in Beijing.

On December 19, 2011, the United Nations
General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170, officially declaring October 11 as
the International Day of the Girl Child.
13. WORLD MIGRATORY BIRD DAY 2024 -
11/12 OCT
·
In 2024, WMBD will be observed on 11 May
and 12 October, marking key dates in the migratory cycles of birds across the
world.
·
World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated twice a year—in May and October—to
reflect the seasonal bird migrations in different parts of the world.
·
The
2024 theme, “Insects for Birds”,

World Migratory Bird Day was first
established in 2006 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the
Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS).
14. INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DISASTER RISK
REDUCTION 2024 -13 OCT

The International Day for Disaster Risk
Reduction (IDDRR) is observed annually on 13th October.
·
The
theme for IDDRR 2024 is “Education as a Lifeline for Youth in Disaster Risk Reduction”.

RATAN
TATA PASSED AWAY
·
Veteran
Indian Industrialist & Philanthropist Ratan Naval Tata, Chairman
Emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away at the age of 86 at Breach Candy
Hospital in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
·
He was
born on 28th December, 1937 in Bombay Presidency, British India (now known as
Mumbai).
·
He
started his career with Tata Group in 1961 by joining the Tata Steel as
shop floor manager.
Following the retirement of Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy (J.R.D.) Tata,
he was appointed as the chairman of Tata Sons in 1991 and held that post
till 2012, with an interim role in 2016-17.
·
He
introduced Tata Nano cars in 2008, with the vision of making cars
affordable for the masses, priced at just Rs 1 lakh.
·
Ratan
Tata was honoured with Padma Bhushan, India’s 3rd highest civilian honour in 2000 and the
·
Padma Vibhushan, India’s 2nd highest
civilian honour in 2008 by the Government of India (GoI) for his
exceptional contribution to trade and
industry.
·
In 2014, Queen Elizabeth II conferred him with the
prestigious Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire, one of
the highest civilian honours in the United Kingdom (UK).
·
In 2020,
the Government of Singapore awarded him
the Honorary Citizen Award, acknowledging his influence and contributions
to their society.
