ANTI-SUBMARINE WARFARE VESSEL, INS ABHAY LAUNCHED
·
The Indian Navy (IN) launched ‘Abhay’, the
7th vessel in the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC)
series, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE).
·
The Arnala-class
ships are set to replace the Indian
Navy’s active Abhay-class ASW corvettes.
·
Vessel Length: Approximately 77 meters,Width: About
10.5 meters.
2.
PATROL
VESSELS ‘ADAMYA’ & ‘AKSHAR’ LAUNCHED
·
The
Indian Coast Guard (ICG) launched two domestic Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs),
named ‘Adamya’ and ‘Akshar’, built by the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).
·
The
vessels, with over 60% indigenous content, were launched by Priya
Paramesh, wife of Paramesh Sivamani, Director General of ICG.
·
The FPVs
state-of-the-art FPVs are a part of the contract signed between ICG and GSL for
8 FPVs to be built at a cost of Rs 473 crore.
·
Each FPV
has a length of 52 meters(m) and a
breadth of 8m.
·
The FPV
with Controllable Pitch Propeller-based propulsion system can attain a maximum speed of 27 knots, and displacement
of 320 tons.
3.
SBI NAMED BEST BANK IN INDIA FOR 2024
·
State
Bank of India (SBI) has been awarded the title of Best Bank in India for 2024 by Global Finance Magazine during its 31st Annual Best Bank Awards, held in
Washington, coinciding with the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World
Bank.
·
SBI,
with an extensive network of over 22,500
branches and 62,000 ATMs, continues to enhance its services through the YONO digital platform.
4.
CREATION
OF CGM POSTS IN 5 NATIONALIZED BANKS
·
·
The new
structure aims for a ratio of one CGM for every four GMs, ensuring a
balanced distribution of responsibilities.
·
The
Finance Minister has sanctioned the establishment of 64 new CGM posts,
increasing the total from 80 to 144 across all 11 nationalized banks.
·
As a
result, the total number of GM positions has been adjusted from 440 to 576,
the DGM (Deputy General Manager) positions from 1,320 to 1,728,
and the AGM (Assistant GM) positions from 3,960 to 5,184.
·
The new
CGM positions will be introduced in five
nationalized banks, namely Bank of
Maharashtra (BoM), Pune ,Central
Bank of India (CBI), Mumbai, Indian
Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai, Punjab
& Sind Bank (PSB), New Delhi, Delhi,UCO Bank, Kolkata
5.
RBI TRANSPORTED
102 TONNES FROM ENGLAND
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revealed that it
successfully transported an impressive
102 tonnes of gold from the Bank of England to secure storage facilities in
India.
·
The RBI’s total gold
reserves amounted to 854.73 metric
tonnes as of the 43rd Half-Yearly Report on Management of Foreign Exchange
Reserves (April-September 2024).
·
510.46 metric tonnes
held domestically.
·
324.01 metric
tonnes stored with the Bank of
England and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
·
20.26 metric tonnes held as gold deposits.
·
Since September 2022, approximately 214 tonnes of gold have
been repatriated to India, with 100 tonnes returned in May 2024.

WORLD TRAUMA DAY – OCTOBER 17 2024
·
World Trauma Day is annually
observed across the globe on 17th October to create awareness
about trauma which refers to an injury to the body or an event that causes
long-term mental or emotional damage.
·
The
theme for World Trauma Day 2024 is “Workplace
Injuries: Prevention & Management”.

NATIONAL
SOLIDARITY DAY – OCTOBER 20 2024

In 1966,
a committee elected by then Prime Minister(PM) Indira Gandhi declared the 20th
October of every year as National Solidarity Day to honour soldiers
and their families who sacrificed in the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

POLICE
COMMEMORATION DAY 2024 – OCTOBER 21
·

The day
remembers the martyrdom of 10 policemen
who were killed by Chinese troops during a reconnaissance mission in Hot
Springs, Ladakh, in 1959.
9.
WORLD
SNOW LEOPARD DAY 2024 – OCTOBER 23
·
·
The theme of WSLD 2024 is “Safeguarding
Snow Leopard Habitats for Future Generations”.
·
During
the Global Snow Leopard Conservation Forum held in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, in
2013, the 12 snow Leopard range countries adopted the Bishkek
Declaration on the Conservation of the Snow Leopard and declared
the 23rd October of every year as the International Snow
Leopard Day.

INDIAN ARMY INFANTRY DAY- OCTOBER 27
·
Infantry
Day is celebrated annually in India on October 27 to commemorate the
significant role played by the infantry in protecting the nation’s sovereignty
and security.
·
The
day commemorates the landing of the 1st
Battalion of the Sikh Regiment on October 27, 1947, to protect the people of Jammu and Kashmir from the
attacks of Pakistani Kabaili Raiders supported by the Pakistan Army.
·
The
infantry is often referred to as the
“Queen of the Battle,” signifying its central role in military operations
throughout history.

AYURVEDA DAY 2024
OCTOBER 29
·
Theme, “Ayurveda Innovations for
Global Health.”
·
The
term Ayurveda is derived from two Sanskrit
words: “ayu” (life) and “veda”
(knowledge), which together signify the “knowledge of life”.
·
The
origins of Ayurveda are attributed to Lord
Dhanvantari, a divine physician
who received this knowledge from Lord
Brahma.
·
Since 2016, the Government of India has observed
Ayurveda Day each year on Dhanteras
(Dhanvantari Jayanti)

WORLD CITIES DAY 2024 - 31 OCTOBER
·
The
day was initiated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013 to encourage a
global dialogue on sustainable urban development, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11) –
which aims to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
·
The
general theme of World Cities Day is
Better City, Better Life, while the
day is celebrated every year with a new sub-theme.
·
The theme for World Cities Day 2024 is “Youth leading climate and local action for cities.”
13.
BOOK “BHARATVAKYA”, A BIOGRAPHY OF BHARAT BALVALLI
·
Prime
Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched the book titled ‘Bharatvakya’,
the biography of renowned classical
musician Dr. Bharat Balvalli written by Pravin
Vitthal Tarde, an eminent actor and screenwriter.
·
This
bilingual book, published by Sakal Media News Publication, is available in both
Marathi and English.

BIBEK DEBROY DIES
·
Bibek
Debroy, a prominent economist and chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic
Advisory Council (EAC-PM), has passed away at the age of 69.
