1. NIPL & TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO TO
DEVELOP UPI-LIKE PAYMENTS SYSTEM
·
NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL),
a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI),
entered into a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Digital
Transformation (MDT) of Trinidad
and Tobago to build a real-time digital payments system modeled
after the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) of India.
·
With this, Trinidad and Tobago became
the first Caribbean
nation to adopt UPI.
·
At present, Indians can pay selected merchants
in Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal,
Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
·
In
2024, NIPL inked an agreement with the Central
Bank of Peru and Bank of
Namibia (BoN) to develop a UPI-like payment system.

2.
WITHDRAWAL OF RS 2,000 NOTES
·
RBI announced that 98% of the Rs2 ,000
notes have been returned since their withdrawal in May 2023.
·
This has led to the total value of the
denomination in circulation dropping significantly from Rs 3.56 lakh crore to
Rs 7,117 crore as of September 2023.
·
Despite their withdrawal, Rs2,000 notes
remain legal tender and can be exchanged at any of RBI’s 19 issue offices
across India.
