1.       NEW PRIME MINISTER OF JAPAN

·         Former Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba become the next Prime Minister(PM) of Japan after being elected as the leader of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) which holds a majority in the parliament.

·         He assumes PM office from October 1, 2024 by replacing incumbent PM Fumio Kishida.

·         Shigeru Ishiba won by 215 votes, defeating SanaeTakaichi(194 votes), in  the leadership election of the LDP in Tokyo, Japan.

·         Japan Capital – Tokyo

·         Currency – Japanese Yen

 

2.       RBI EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Aviral Jain as Executive Director (ED)

·         RBI is the Central Bank of India, meaning it is the apex body in the Indian financial system.

·         It is owned by the Union Ministry of Finance.

 


3.       FIRST WOMAN DG OF ARMED FORCES MEDICAL SERVICES

·         Surgeon Vice Admiral ArtiSarin, became the first woman officer to take over as the Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS).

·         The DGAFMS is directly responsible to the Ministry of Defence for overall medical policy matters which relate to the Armed Forces.

·         The Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) is the head of the medical services of the Indian Armed Forces.

 

4.       PRESIDENT OF INDIAN NEWSPAPER SOCIETY

·         MV Shreyams Kumar, the distinguished Managing Director of the renowned Mathrubhumi newspaper, has been elected as the new president of the Indian Newspaper Society.

 

5.       ARUNDHATI ROY’S FIRST MEMOIR ‘MOTHER MARY COMES TO ME’

·         Renowned Indian Author and 1997 Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy, is set to publish her first memoir titled “Mother Mary Comes to Me” in September 2025.

·         She received the Booker Prize for The God of Small Things in 1997

·         Her other noted works include ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness’; ‘The End of Imagination’; ‘The Doctor and The Saint’ and ‘The Algebra of Infinite Justice’.

 

6.       PLATINUM JUBILEE OF CENTRAL SILK BOARD

·         Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Ministry of Textile, unveiled the Commemoratory coin of the denomination Rs 75 during an event organised to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee(75th Anniversary) of the Central Silk Board (CSB) in Mysuru, Karnataka.

·         The CSB was established following the recommendations of the Silk Panel by the Imperial government on 8th March 1945 to examine the development of the silk industry.

·         The CSB works under the administrative control of Ministry of Textiles

·         Headquarters– Benagluru, Karnataka

 

7.       MAKE IN INDIA CELEBRATES 10 YEARS

·         “Make in India”, the flagship programme of the Government of India (GoI), completed a decade (10 years) of empowering India to become a global manufacturing hub.

·         Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched the “Make in India” initiative on 25th September, 2014 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi

·         It is being implemented by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoC&I).

 

8.       CLASSICAL LANGUAGE STATUS TO MARATHI, BENGALI, PALI, PRAKRIT, AND ASSAMESE

·         The concept of “Classical Languages” was established in 2004

·         Tamil being the first to receive this status.

·         Revised in 2005, these guidelines have since been applied to Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Odia

 

9.       INDIA JOINED INTERNATIONAL BIG CAT ALLIANCE

·         Formally joined International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) by signing and ratification of the Framework Agreement on the establishment of the IBCA.

·         IBCA is a global initiative founded by India to secure the future of big cats and their natural habitats.

·         With this, countries (India, Nicaragua, Eswatini and Somalia) have now become member of IBCA.

·         IBCA was launched by PM Modi during the programme “Commemoration of 50 years of India’s Project Tiger” on 9th April 2023 at Mysuru University in Mysuru, Karnataka.

·         The framework Agreement aimed to establish IBCA to collectively address common challenges for the protection and conservation of 7 big cats – Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar and the Cheetah.

·         Except, Puma and Jaguar, 5 of these big cats are found in India.

10.    4TH GLOBAL RE-INVEST RENEWABLE ENERGY INVESTORS MEET & EXPO

·         Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST) 2024, the 4th edition of the flagship event by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE), was held at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre, Gandhinagar, Gujarat 

·         The 3-day summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister(PM) NarendraModi

·         Global RE-INVEST 2024 was organised in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

·         REC Limited, formerly Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with renewable energy (RE) developers to fund projects worth around Rs.1.12 lakh crore.

 

11.    SCO MEETING IN PAKISTAN

·         External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will lead India’s delegation to Pakistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad on October 15-16, 2024.

·         This marks the first visit by an Indian External Affairs Minister to Pakistan since SushmaSwaraj attended a conference in 2015.

·         SCO is a permanent intergovernmental international organization established in 2001, comprising China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan
