1.       PRADHAN MANTRI JANJATIYA UNNAT GRAM ABHIYAN (PM-JUGA)

·         The Union Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PM-JUGA), a comprehensive mission aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities in India.

·         This ambitious initiative comes with a total outlay of Rs. 79,156 crore to be implemented over a period of five years.

·         The PM-JUGA has an extensive reach, targeting:63,000 villages,Benefiting over 5 crore tribal people, Spanning 549 districts and 2,740 blocks, Covering 30 states and Union Territories

·         India’s tribal population 10.45 crore Scheduled Tribe (ST) population (Census 2011),Over 700 ST communities

 

2.       PUNE AIRPORT TO BE NAMED AS JAGADGURU SANT TUKARAM MAHARAJ

·         Maharashtra government approved a proposal to name Pune airport as Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Pune International Airport.

·         Sant Tukaram Maharaj was a 17th-century Marathi poet, and Hindu saint, popularly known as Tuka, Tukobaraya, Tukoba in Maharashtra.



 

3.       INDIA AND UZBEKISTAN SIGN BILATERAL INVESTMENT TREATY

·         India and Uzbekistan have signed a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) aimed at boosting investor confidence and enhancing economic cooperation between the two nations.

·         The treaty was formalized by Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Khodjayev Jamshid Abdukhakimovich in Tashkent.

 

4.       INDIA JOINS GLOBAL ANTI-CORRUPTION ALLIANCE

·         India has been elected to the 15-member GlobE Steering Committee, which focuses on combating corruption and asset recovery.

·         This decision was made during a plenary session in Beijing in September 26, 2024

·         The GlobE Network originated as an initiative from the G-20, supported by India in 2020.

 

5.       GLOBAL AI SUMMIT IN RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA

·         The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) announced the classification of the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE) as a Category 2(C2) center under UNESCO during the 3rd Global AI Summit held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

·         Saudi Arabia was an early adopter of UNESCO’s AI ethics recommendations, endorsed by 193 countries in November 2021.

 

6.       G7 MINISTERS’ MEETING ON CULTURE

·         Special Session of G7 (Group of 7) Ministers meeting on Culture was held in Naples, Italy.

·         The G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Culture presided over by Alessandro Giuli, Minister of Culture, Italy, was held Naples, Italy

·         The meeting was also attended by Culture leaders of the African Union(AU), Brazil, Canada, the European Union(EU), France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom(UK) and the United States of America (USA) along with the Heads of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

·         During the session, the Naples Statement was signed on ‘Culture for the sustainable development of Africa and the world’ to promote culture as a driver of sustainable development in Africa.

·         It aims to enhance cultural and creative sectors, protect cultural property from illicit trafficking, and promote Africa’s inclusion in UNESCO Heritage Lists.

·         The importance of culture as a transformative driver for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda was emphasized.

·         Indian delegation led by Arunish Chawla, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture(MoC), Government of India, participated in the meeting.

 

7.       INVEST INDIA’S NEW OFFICE IN SINGAPORE

·         Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated Invest India’s new office in Singapore.

·         Invest India is the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of India, established as a non-profit initiative under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

·         Invest India serves as a one-stop center created to attract and retain high- quality investments in the country.

 

8.       QUAD LEADERS’ SUMMIT

·         Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the sixth Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware hosted by the President of the United States of America, Joseph R. Biden

·         The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD) or QUAD Group is an informal strategic forum comprising India, Japan, Australia and the United States of America.

·         Next hosting of the Quad Leaders’ Summit by India in 2025.

·         To take the Quad agenda forward, they adopted the Quad Wilmington Declaration.

 

9.       79TH U.N. GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION IN NEW YORK

·         Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a significant address at the 79th U.N. General Assembly session, themed “Summit of the Future,” held in New York on September 22, 2024.

·         The summit commenced prior to the high-level meeting of world leaders, initiated by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres,

·         United Nations (U.N) Established: 1945, after World War II to promote peace, security, and cooperation.

·         Headquarters: New York City, U.S.

·         Members: 193 member states.

·         Main Bodies: General Assembly, Security Council, International Court of Justice, Economic and Social Council, Secretariat, and Trusteeship Council.

·         Security Council: 15 members (5 permanent with veto power – U.S., Russia, China, U.K., and France) and 10 non permanent

 

10.    9TH AIIB BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING

·         Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman represented India at the 9th Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Board of Governors meeting held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan,

·         The theme for this year’s AIIB Board of Governors meeting was “Building Resilient Infrastructure for All,”

·         During the meeting, the Board of Governors approved the Republic of Nauru’s application to join the AIIB, bringing the total membership to 110.

·         The Board of Governors serves as the highest decision-making body of the AIIB, with each member country appointing a Governor and an alternate Governor, typically the finance minister.

·         From India, Nirmala Sitharaman acts as the Governor, while Ajay Seth, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, serves as the alternate Governor.

·         The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), operational since 2016, is a multilateral bank with China as its largest shareholder (29.9%) and India as the second largest (7.74%).

11.    MEETING OF L.69 AND C-10 GROUPINGS OF NATIONS

·         External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participated in the first-ever Joint Ministerial Meeting of the L.69 and C-10 groupings of nations on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

·         The Committee of Ten (C10) is a group of African countries that is part of the African Union (AU).

·         L69 consists of 32 developing nations (including India) from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (Small Island Developing States).

 

12.    INDIA’S OFFICIAL ENTRY TO  OSCARS 2025

·         Film Federation of India (FFI) has announced the name of ‘Laapata Ladies’ as India’s official entry for the “Best International Feature Film” category at the prestigious 97th Academy Awards (Oscars 2025), which will held in March 2025 in Los Angeles, California, the United States of America (USA).

·         The film was unanimously selected by 13-member jury of FFI headed by Assamese director Jahnu Barua.

13.    MISS UNIVERSE INDIA 2024

·         Rhea Singha, (19-year-old) from Gujarat has been crowned Miss Universe India 2024 at the pageant held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

·         Rhea will now represent India at the 73rd Miss Universe 2024 pageant, which is scheduled to be held in Mexico in November 2024.

·         1st Runner-Up- Pranjal Priya (Maharashtra).

·         2nd Runner-Up- Chhavi Verg (New Jersey, the United States of America – USA).

·         Sushmita Sen became the first Miss Universe from India crowned in 1994

·         Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua won the Miss Universe 2023 crown

 

14.    GLOBAL PRESTIGE AWARD AT THE UK PARLIAMENT

·         Renowned Bollywood film producer Vinod Bachchan was honored with the prestigious Global Prestige Award at the House of Lords, United Kingdom (UK) Parliament for his outstanding contribution in Indian film industry, and in promoting Indian culture and strengthening cinematic ties between India and the global stage, particularly the UK.

·         Vinod Bachchan produced Bollywood hits such as Tanu Weds Manu, Zila Ghaziabad, Ginny Weds Sunny, and Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana

·         Global Prestige Award: Presented at the UK Parliament, this award aims to celebrate diversity and excellence across various domains, including arts, culture, and business.

 

15.    EKALABYA PURASKAR

·         Emerging swimmer Pratyasa Ray has been selected for the 32nd Ekalabya Puraskar for 2024 for her achievements in swimming.

·         She will receive a cash prize of Rs 7 lakh

·         Ekalabya Puraskar was instituted by charitable body IMPaCT (Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT) in 1993 and managed by IMFA, the leading ferro alloys producer in the country.

·         The award is given every year to young sportspersons of Odisha in recognition of their outstanding performance in the preceding two years.
