1.       SASTRA RAMANUJAN PRIZE

·         Alexander Dunn, a prominent mathematician from Georgia Institute of Technology, the United States of America (USA), has been awarded the 2024 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize instituted by the Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA), a private deemed university in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu (TN).

·         He is recognized for his significant work in analytic number theory, especially his collaboration with Maksym Radziwill in solving the Kummer-Patterson Conjecture, which pertains to bias in cubic Gauss sums.

·         SASTRA Ramanujan Prize was established in 2005 by SASTRA University to honour young mathematicians who have made significant contributions to areas influenced by the works of legendary Indian mathematician SrinivasaRamanujan.

·         The prize is awarded annually to mathematicians under 32 years of age.

 

2.       15TH IRANI CUP TITLE

·         Mumbai win Irani cup cricket after gap of 27 years.

·         AjinkyaRahane led reigning Ranji champion team has drawn the match after taking the first innings lead against the Rest of India in a 5 day match.

·         Player of match Sarfaraz Khan

·         The Irani Cup is an annual one-off First-Class cricket match organized by the BCCI and contested each season by the reigning Ranji Trophy champions and a multi-state RoI team composed of players from the other state teams.

·         BCCI named the Irani Trophy after Zal R. Irani, their long-serving president and treasurer, who was a significant figure in the organization from its inception in 1928, till his death in 1970.

 


3.       IIFA AWARDS 2024- ABU DHABI

·         Best Film: “Animal” (Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga)

·         Best Actor: Shah Rukh Khan for “Jawan”

·         Best Actress: Rani Mukerji for “Mrs Chatterjeevs Norway”

4.       HANGZHOU OPEN TENNIS 2024

·         Marin Cilic of Croatia won the Men’s singles title by defeating China’s Zhang Zhizhen.

·         With this win, Marin Cilic became the lowest-ranked tournament winner in ATP Tour history at No. 77.

 

5.       1ST ASIA PACIFIC PADEL CUP

·         The Indian team bagged the bronze medal by defeating Malaysia in the first edition of the Asia Pacific Padel Cup

·         (APPC) 2024 which was held in Bali, Indonesia,

·         Indonesia won the gold medal followed by the Philippines winning the silver medal in the tournament.

·         Padel is a racquet sport with Mexican origin that is played in an enclosed court, like squash, that is slightly smaller than a doubles tennis court in size.

·         Nations participated in the event – Hong Kong (China), India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.

 

6.       2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES

·         Glasgow, the capital of Scotland, has been announced as the host city of the 2026 Commonwealth Games (23rd edition), after Australian state of Victoria decided to withdraw from hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games due to projected exceeding expenditures.

·         The city previously hosted the event in 2014.

·         It is a quadrennial international multisport event among athletes from the Commonwealth nations.

·         The 1st CWG was held in 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

·         So far, India hosted the CWG only once in 2010 in New Delhi

 

7.       DWAYNE BRAVO RETIRES FROM CRICKET

·         West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo two-time Men’s Twenty20 (T20) World Cup winner, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He retired from international cricket in 2021.

·         Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a professional franchise cricket team of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has announced Dwayne Bravo as KKR’s new mentor succeeding GautamGambhir. 

·         He was a key member of the West Indies team that won the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2004 and the ICC World T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. 

·         He has played 582 T20 matches, taken 631 wickets, and scored nearly 7,000 runs.

·         As a part of the IPL team CSK, he has also won four IPL titles in different roles – 2011, 2018, 2021 as a player and 2023 as a coach.

·         He is the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL history with 183 wickets and also the first player to win two purple caps in the tournament, in 2013 and 2015.

 

8.       ISSF JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

·         Indian trio wins team Gold medal at ISSF Junior World Championship 2024 in 25 Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol event.

·         The competition was held in Lima, Peru.

·         The trio was RaajwardanPatil, MukeshNelavalli and Harsimar Singh Rattha. 

·         The ISSF Junior World Championship was introduced by the International Shooting Sport Federation in 2017.

 

9.       SAFF MEN’S U-17 CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

·         The Indian Men’s Football U-17 (Under 17) lifted the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) Men’s U-17 Championship after defeating Bangladesh in the final game of the tournament.

·         The final was played at the Changlimithang Stadium inThimphu, Bhutan.

·         Player of the Tournament : Mohammed Arbash (INDIA)

·         Goal Keeper of the Tournament : AheibamSuraj Singh (INDIA)

·         The South Asian Football Federation is a regional football association of South Asian countries.

·         It was founded in 1997 by Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan later joined the Federation.

·         SAFF organizes both seniors and juniors tournaments for men and women.

 

10.    1ST WOMAN FIGHTER PILOT IN LCA TEJAS FIGHTER FLEET

·         Squadron Leader Mohana Singh has become the 1st woman fighter pilot to join the Indian Air Force’s (IAF18 Flying Bullets squadron, which operates India’s indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCATejas fighter jets.

·         The Flying Bullets squadron is stationed at Naliya Air Base in the Gujarat sector, along the border with Pakistan.

·         Mohana Singh was among the first 3 female fighter pilots commissioned into the IAF in 2016, alongside Squadron Leaders Bhawana Kanth and Avani Chaturvedi.

·         She made history as the first woman in the IAF to fly a “Hawk” aircraft during daylight hours in 2019.

 

11.    KAZIND 2024 EXERCISE

·         8th India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise KAZIND-2024 started at Surya Foreign Training Node, Auli, Uttarakhand

·         It was instituted in 2016 as Exercise PrabalDostyk, which was later upgraded to a company level exercise and renamed as Ex Kazind in 2018.

 

12.    EARTH GETS A TEMPORARY ‘MINI-MOON’: ASTEROID 2024 PT5

·         Earth has gained a temporary “mini-moon”, an asteroid named ‘2024 PT5’, which will revolve around Earth from 29th September 2024 until 25th November 2024. 

·         This will revolve in a horseshoe shape for around 55 days and then escape Earth’s gravitational pull without completing the full revolution.

·         2024 PT5, captured by Earth’s gravitational pull, is around 10 meters in diameter.

·         This won’t be visible to the naked eye.

·         he 2024 PT5 was discovered with the help of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)-funded Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS).
This Near Earth object (NEO) is the 5th detected mini-moon of Earth.

·         The 1st mini-moon1991 VG, was spotted in 1991.
