TREDS PLATFORM RXIL
CROSSES RS 1 LAKH CRORE IN MSME INVOICE FINANCING
·
India’s 1st Trade
Receivables electronic Discounting System (TReDS) exchange platform,
Receivables Exchange of India Limited (RXIL), has financed over 50 lakh
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) invoices totaling Rs 1
lakh crore.
·
RXIL has over 25,000 registered MSMEs. It
has strategic partnerships with state governments for timely and competitive
payments.
·
It provides working capital solutions for
MSMEs through invoice financing.
·
RXIL is a joint venture (JV) promoted
by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), NSE
India (National Stock Exchange of India Ltd), State Bank of India (SBI),
ICICI Bank, and YES Bank Limited.
·
RXIL is the 1st entity to receive the
Reserve Bank of India(RBI)’s approval to launch TReDS Exchange Platform in
2016.

Bernard Arnault is followed by Jeff

Chairwoman of L’Oreal is ranked 15th with a net worth of USD 98.9 Billion.
She became the first woman to join the USD 100 billion club.

The United Nations (UN)’s International
Tea Day (ITD) is annually observed across the globe on 21st
May to promote sustainable production and consumption of tea and
highlight the role of tea cultivation in combating hunger and poverty.
·
ITD is observed by the Food and
Agriculture Organization(FAO) of the United Nations.
·
ITD has been celebrated since 2005 on
15th December in tea-producing countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal,
Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Uganda, India and Tanzania.

NATIONAL ANTI-TERRORISM DAY 2024 –
MAY 21

National Anti-Terrorism Day is
annually observed across India on 21 May to mark the death
anniversary of former Prime Minister (PM) Rajiv Gandhi,
who was assassinated in 1991 at Sriperumbudur, a village near Chennai, Tamil
Nadu.
·
In 1992,
the Government of India (GoI) decided to observe 21 May as National
Anti-Terrorism Day to honour the memory of Rajiv Gandhi.

85TH GRANDMASTER
·
P Shayaamnikhil became India's 85th
Grandmaster by completing his third and final GM
norm in the just-concluded Dubai Police Masters chess tournament,
ending a 12-year-wait for the player who took to the sport as an
eight-year-old.

The 31-year-old conjured the requisite 2500
ELO rating points, the minimum requirement to be a GM, way back in 2012 with
two Grandmaster norms but for the third one, he had to wait for 12 years.

PROCLAIMS 25TH MAY AS WORLD FOOTBALL DAY

The United Nations General
Assembly has proclaimed 25th May as the World Football Day, by adopting a
resolution during the 80th plenary meeting of the General Assembly in
New York.

anniversary of the first international football tournament in
history with the representation of all regions as part of the 1924 Summer
Olympic Games, held in Paris.

According to the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s 2nd
edition of the Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI 2024), India is
ranked 39th among 119 economies with a TTDI score of
4.25.

list with a TTDI score of 5.24 followed by Spain (5.18)
and Japan (5.09) at 2nd and 3rd rank respectively.

India is ranked highest in South Asia
and among the lower-middle-income economies.

RANGELANDS FACES SILENT DEMISE
THREATENS FOOD SECURITY: UNCCD REPORT

According to United Nations Convention to
Combat Desertification’s (UNCCD) report titled “Global Land Outlook Thematic
Report on Rangelands and Pastoralists” up to 50% of world’s vast
rangelands are degraded and is nearly double the previous estimates that
ranged from 20% to 35%.

The report ranked the world regions
affected by rangelands degradation in descending orderCentral Asia, China,
Mongolia; North Africa and Near East; Sahel and West Africa; South America;
East Africa, North America, Europe, South Africa and Australia.

GLOBAL CARBON EMISSIONS PRICING -
WORLD BANK REPORT
·
According to the World Bank (WB)’s 11th
annual report titled “State and Trends of Carbon Pricing 2024”, total
revenues from carbon taxes and Emissions Trading Systems (ETSs) in 2023 have
reached a record high of USD 104 billion.
·
For the first time,
the carbon pricing revenues have crossed the threshold of USD 100 billion.
·
Carbon Pricing
is an instrument that captures the external costs of GHG emissions.
·
It is paid by public for damage to
crops, health care costs from heat waves and droughts, and
loss of property from flooding and sea-level rise and ties them to their
sources through a price, usually in the form of a price on the carbon dioxide
(CO2) emitted.

INTERNATIONAL BOOKER PRIZE 2024 FOR
‘KAIROS’
·
German author Jenny Erpenback and
translator Michael Hofmann have been named the winner of
the International Booker Prize 2024 for the book ‘Kairos’.

Jenny Erpenbeck became the 1st German writer
to win the Prize, and Michael Hofmann became the 1st male translator to
win since the Prize launched in its current form in 2016.

Kairos became
the 1st book translated from German to English to
win the International Booker Prize.

Chess player Magnus Carlsen won the inaugural Casablanca
Chess Variant Tournament 2024 that was held at Mahkama du Pacha in
Casablanca, Morocco.

4-player event with 4.5 points from 6 rounds.

The tournament featured 4 distinguished

Day for Biological Diversity(IDB) is annually observed across the
globe on 22nd May to increase understanding and awareness of
biodiversity issues and to promote the conservation of biological diversity.
