1ST LOCALLY-MADE ELECTRIC MINING TRUCK

Sany
Heavy Industry India PrivateLimited (SANY India), a construction and mining
equipment manufacturer, launched the SKT105E,
India’s first locally manufactured fully electric opencast mining
truck.

The truck has a unique electric propulsion system that ensures zero emissions and optimal performance while lowering the
carbon footprint.

DEPOSITS
OF SENIOR CITIZENS SURGED BY 143%
·
As per the State Bank of India (SBI) Economic Research Department (ERD) report,
the total amount of deposits in senior citizen accounts increased by 143% to Rs 34.367 lakh crore at
the end of December 2023 from Rs 13.724 lakh crore in 2018.
·
The report revealed that senior citizens term deposit accounts
increased by about 81% to
around 7.4 crore in
December 2023
·
The report estimated that at least 7.3 crore of these accounts have
a balance of over Rs 15 lakh and
fetching interest of 7.5% on these
deposits.
·
The report showed that the average amount per senior citizen term deposit account surged by about 39% to Rs 4.63
lakh by the end of December 2023
·
The report revealed that Government has
collected around Rs 27,000
crore in taxes from senior citizens on the interest they earned on
term deposit in FY24.
·
Government of India(GoI) has increased
the threshold of TDS(Tax
Deducted at Source) on deposits for senior citizens to Rs 50,000.

INDIAN
ARMY CONDUCTS ATGM TRAINING EXERCISE

The Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps conducted a training exercise of Anti-Tank Guided
Missile (ATGM) at a
super-high altitude area of 17,000 feet in Sikkim.
·
The exercise was conducted with the aim
of “Ek Missile Ek Tank” and
highlighted the accuracy and effectiveness of the ATGM system in high-altitude environments.

POPULATION EXPECTED TO HAVE TOUCHED 1.44 BILLION MARK

According to the report released by the
United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) State of the World Population,
titled “Interwoven Lives, Threads of Hope:
Ending Inequalities in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights“The report
revealed that India’s population is
estimated to double in 77 years.
·
The report also stated that India is the
global leader in terms of the population with an estimated population of 1.44 billion ahead of China at 1.425 billion.

The UNFPA report highlighted that an
estimated 24% of India’s population is
aged 0-14 while 17% lies within
the range of 10-19 years.

NIGERIA
THE 1ST COUNTRY GLOBALLY TO LAUNCH MEN5CV MENINGITIS VACCINE
·
Nigeria has
become the 1st country to
launch a new vaccine called Men5CV,
recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to protect people against
5 strains of the meningococcus (Neisseria meningitidis) bacteria (A, C, W, Y,
and X), responsible for meningitis.
·
Men5CV potentially paving the way for
the WHO’s goal of eliminating meningitis by 2030.
·
The new vaccine was a collaborative
effort between PATH (formerly
Program for Appropriate Technology in Health), and the Serum Institute of India(SII).

Hemophilia Day (WHD) is annually observed across
the globe on 17 April to
raise awareness about Hemophilia, an
inherited bleeding disorder, and other bleeding disorders that prevent

The theme of World Hemophilia Day 2024 is “Equitable access for all: recognizing all bleeding disorders”.

10. NEW FDI LIMITS FOR SATELLITE
RELATED ACTIVITIES UNDER FEMA
·
The Ministry of Finance notified the
amendment to Foreign Exchange Management
(Non-Debt Instruments Rules) Rules 2019 to operationalise the new foreign
direct investment (FDI) limits for satellite-related activities.
·
The new rules will be known as Foreign Exchange Management (Non-Debt
Instruments) (3rd Amendment) Rules, 2024.
·
Under the amended FDI Policy, 100% FDI is allowed in the space sector.
·
As per amended FDI policy, the satellite
sub-sector has been categorized into three different activities with
defined limits for foreign investment in each sector.
·
In
manufacturing of components and systems or sub-systems for
satellites, ground segment and user segment, up to 100% FDI is allowed under the automatic route.
·
In
Satellites-Manufacturing and Operations; Satellite Data
Products; and Ground Segment and User Segment up to 74% FDI is allowed under automatic route and FDI over 74% will require government approval.
·
InLaunch
Vehicles and associated systems or sub-systems and
Creation of Spaceports for launching and receiving spacecraft up to 49% FDI is allowed under
automatic route and FDI over 49% will require government approval.
·
Automatic
Route: Under automatic route, the non-resident or
Indian company does not require nod of the Reserve Bank of India(RBI) or
Government of India(GoI).
·
Sectors
which come under automatic route are: medical devices,
petroleum refining, pension, insurance etc.
·
Government
Route: The Government’s approval is mandatory under
Government route.
·
Sectors
which come under government route category are: print
media, multi-brand retail training, broadcasting content services etc.
·
Foreign
Investment Facilitation Portal(FIFP): acts a
single-window clearance and processes applications for FDI The applications for
FDI is approved or rejected in consultation with the Department for Promotion
of Industry and Internal Trade(DPIIT), Ministry
of Commerce.
11. UP’S 13 PRODUCTS GETS GI TAG

The Government of India’s (GoI)
Geographical Indication Registry granted Geographical Indication (GI) tags
to 13 new products of
Uttar Pradesh (UP).
·
With this the total number of GI products from UP becomes 75. UP has retained its position as the state with most
number of GI tagged products in India.

Tamil
Nadu is the 2nd position with a total of 58 GI tagged products.

12. ASIAN WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024
·
Indian wrestlers won a total of 9 medals (4 silver and 5 bronze) in the
Asian Wrestling Championships (Seniors) 2024 held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
·
The teams were ranked based on the
points in each of three categories: men’s freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women’s
wrestling.
·
India was ranked 11th in Greco-Roman; 7th
in men’s freestyle and 4th in
Women’s wrestling.
