QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS BY
SUBJECT 2024

The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released
the 14th edition of QS World University Rankings by
Subject 2024 which marked Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, as India’s highest-ranked in Development Studies
(20th globally).

In Development Studies section,
University of Sussex topped the ranking
·
Music
is the one new subject to be added to 2024 rankings.
·
The edition featured 55 individual
subjects across five broad subject areas
viz. Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences &
Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences & Management.
·
Harvard University of
United States (US) topped the 4 broad
subjects.
·
69
Indian universities featured in the 2024 QS World University
Rankings by Subject, with 424 entries, marking a 19.4% increase
from 2023.

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad has made its
place among the top 25 institutions
globally in the category of business and management studies.

NEW PRESIDENT OF ASOIF
·
Ingmar De Vos from Belgium,
the President of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), was
unanimously elected as the President of the Association of Summer Olympic International
Federations (ASOIF)

He was elected for a 4 year term,
starting on 1st January 2025.

NEW CMD OF SIDBI AND MD OF NHB
·
The
Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has
recommended Manoj Mittal for the post of Chairman and Managing
Director (CMD) of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).
·
FSIB has appointed Sanjay
Shukla as the MD of the National Housing Bank
(NHB), the apex regulatory body
for the overall regulation and licensing of housing finance companies in India.
·
FSIB came into effect on 1st July 2022,
replacing the Banks Board Bureau(BBB) for recommending persons
for appointment as whole-time directors and non-executive chairpersons on the
Boards of financial services institutions.

DIRECTOR OF NJA
·
Justice Anirudhha Bose
is appointed as Director of
the National Judicial Academy (NJA) which offers training programmes to aid the judges in
their judging role and in performance of court administration work.
·
Justice Anirudhha Bose recently
retired from the Supreme Court (SC) of India. He has been serving as the SC
Judge since 2019.
·
NJA is an independent society,
established in 1993 under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.
·
NJA is fully funded by the Government of India (GoI) and works under the
directions of the Supreme Court of India.

NATIONAL SAFE MOTHERHOOD DAY 2024 –
APRIL 11
·
National Safe Motherhood Day (NSMD)
is annually observed across India on 11 April to raise
awareness of the significance of maternal health and wellness, promote maternal
health, and reduce maternal mortality rates in India
·
NSMD was
initiated by White Ribbon Alliance India (WRA India), a grassroots
organization that advocates for the health and rights of women and newborns.
·
India is supposedly the first country in
the world to have officially declared NSMD, dedicated to promoting maternal
health and safety.
·
April 11 commemorates
the birth anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi (1869-1944) wife of
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
·
She was born on 11 April 1869 in
Porbandar, British India (now in Gujarat).
·
According to the United Nations (UN)
Maternal Mortality Estimation India’s
Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has declined from 384 per 1 lakh live births
in 2000 to 103 in 2020.

World Parkinson’s Day (WPD)
is annually observed across the globe on 11 April to raise
awareness and advance research toward better therapies and a cure for Parkinson’s disease (PD), also known as
“paralysis agitans”
·
PD is a chronic degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that
affects both the motor system and
non-motor systems.
·
The day commemorates the birth anniversary of English surgeon,
Dr James Parkinson (1755 – 1824) who was the first to describe “paralysis agitans”.

CRIME
·
According to new research surveying cybercrime experts from around the world, India ranked 10th in cybercrime, with fraud involving people asking for advance
fee payments as the most common type.

An international team of researchers has
prepared a 'World Cyber Crime Index'
which ranks nearly 100 countries.
·
Russia
and Ukraine are highly technical cybercrime hubs,
while Nigerian cyber criminals are engaged in less technical forms of
cybercrime.

RBI'S
DIGITAL INDIA TRUST AGENCY TO COMBAT ILLEGAL LENDING APPS
·
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is
considering establishing a Digital India Trust Agency (DIGITA) to stop the
mushrooming of illegal lending apps.
·
DIGITA would be responsible for
verifying digital lending apps and maintaining a public register of verified
apps.
·
The RBI has shared a list of 442 digital
lending apps with the IT Ministry to whitelist with Google.

Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMB) topped the
league table of equity offerings, with the private lender being the manager to
43 issues in FY24, a year when companies
raised about Rs 2.9 trillion through a total of 400 issuances.

in value terms and a 10.89% market share

The Unified
Payment Interface (UPI) transactions in India posted a record 57% rise in volume and 44% rise in value in Financial Year
2023-24
·
This was the first time that UPI transactions crossed 100 billion
and closed at 131 billion in a
financial year, compared to 84 billion in 2022-23.

The year also saw a record value touching Rs 199.89 trillion,
compared to Rs 139.1 trillion.

3.7 crore (36.91 million ) demat accounts were added in
the fiscal year 2024, marking the largestincrease ever, averaging over 30 lakh

The number of Demat accounts opened with
two depositories the Central Depository
Services (CDSL) and the National
Securities Depository (NSDL) jumped 11.9% year-on-year, to 15.14 crore from 11.45 crore.

facility of holding shares and securities in an electronic format.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
launched the myCGHS app for the iOS ecosystem of devices.

The app is designed to enhance access to
Electronic Health Records, information, and resources for Central Government
