GUARDIAN: INDIA-JAPAN ANNUAL MILITARY EXERCISE
·
‘Dharma
Guardian’ the 5th edition of the India-Japan joint annual military training
exercise commenced at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan.
·
The
aim is to strengthen bilateral Military
Cooperation between India and Japan and combined capabilities to execute joint
operations in the semi-urban environment under Chapter VII of the United Nations (UN) Charter.

INDIA
& BANGLADESH COLLABORATED FOR TRANSBOUNDARY TIGER CONSERVATION
·
Under the Integrated Tiger Habitat Conservation
Program (ITHCP), a
people-centric engagement took place between India and Bangladesh at Joymoni, BagerhatDistrict, Bangladesh .
·
The initiative aims to
mutually understand the tiger conservation process of India and Bangladesh in Sunderbans.
·
The Sundarbans is the world’s largest mangrove
forest spread over India and Bangladesh in the delta formed by the
confluence of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna Rivers in the Bay of Bengal.
·
The initiative is
attended by WTI’s primary response team (PRT) members, “Bagh Bondh’s” (friends of the tiger), teachers &
students from India and Bangladesh.
·
ITHCP
is supported by the International Union
for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Germany’s KfW Development Bank.
·
The program was
initiated in 2014 and is set to run till 2027.

FATF’S
5TH PLENARY HELD IN PARIS, FRANCE
·
The Financial Action
Task Force (FATF) concluded
its 5th Plenary session in Paris, France under the presidency
of T Raja Kumar of Singapore.
·
The 3-day Plenary
included discussions on key money laundering, terrorism financing, and
proliferation financing issues.
·
Ms.
Elisa de AndaMadrazo of Mexico was appointed
as the next President of the FATF for a
fixed 2-year term, starting on 1 July 2024.
·
FATF suspended
membership of the Russian
Federation on 24 February 2023
·
FATF is the global
money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog. This inter-governmental body
sets international standards to prevent these illegal activities.

NEW VIGILANCE COMMISSIONER
·
Aeratu
S. Rajeev, former managing director (MD) and chief
executive officer (CEO) of the Bank of
Maharashtra (BoM), was appointed as Vigilance
Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
·
CVC
is an apex governmental body in India that is
responsible for promoting integrity,
transparency, and accountability in the country’s public administration.
·
It
was established in 1964 based on the
recommendations of the Santhanam
Committee on the Prevention of Corruption.

Indian-Origin
Samir Shah is set to be appointed as the chairman of British Broadcasting
Corporation (BBC) for a period of four years until March 2028.

Shah was honoured with
a CBE (Commander of the
Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2019 for services to
television and heritage.

PARA-BADMINTON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024
·
The Indian shuttlers
won 18 medals (3 gold, 4
silver, and 11 bronze) at the BWF (Badminton World Federation) Para-Badminton World Championships 2024,
held in Pattaya, Thailand.
·
SuhasLalinakereYathiraj,
the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics silver medallist, won the gold in the men’s singles SL 4 category by beating Indonesia’s
FredySetiawan.
·
Krishna Nagar won
the gold medal in the men’s singles SH 6
category by beating China’s Naili Lin.
·
Pramod Bhagat won
the gold medal in the men’s singles SL 3
category by beating England’s Daniel Bethell.
·
He was the first Indian
to win a gold medal in badminton at the Paralympic Games, winning a gold medal
in the men’s singles SL3 class.

UGC
GRANTED CATEGORY 1 UNIVERSITY STATUS TO CUSB
·
The University Grants
Commission (UGC) granted Category-I University status to
the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB),
the 1st time for a university in Bihar.
·
Benefits
of Category-1 Status:CUSB is automatically deemed under Section 12B
of the UGC Act, 1956, without the need
for inspections.
·
The university is now
eligible for research grants,
fostering a conducive environment for academic research.
·
CUSB can introduce new courses, programs,
schools, or centers without seeking additional approvals.
·
Global Collaborations: CUSB
will be eligible for benefits as stipulated under clause 4 of the regulations
such as establishing off-campus centers; skill courses, etc.

ECI
SIGNED MOU WITH IBA & DOP FOR ELECTORAL AWARENESS
·
Election Commission of
India (ECI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the
Department of Posts (DoP) under the Ministry of Communications to boost
voter outreach before the upcoming LokSabha (LS) polls.

The MoU was signed in
the presence of Chief Election
Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar and
Election Commissioner (EC) Arun Goel
·
IBA, established on
26th September 1946, is an association of Indian banks and financial
institutions.

FIRST
‘GATI SHAKTI RESEARCH CHAIR’
·
The
Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) and the Indian Institute of
Management (IIM) Shillong has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) to set
up India’s first ‘Gati Shakti Research
Chair’ in Shillong, Meghalaya.
·
The chair aims to drive
high-quality academic research in the field of multimodal logistics, with a
special emphasis on the development of the North-Eastern Region (NER) of India.
·
The chair also aims to
promote collaboration with global experts and supports multimodal logistics
research activities.

RBI
IMPOSED PENALTY ON SBI, CUB, CANARA BANK & OCEAN CAPITAL MARKET
·
The Reserve Bank of
India (RBI) has imposed
penalties of over Rs 3 crore on
the State Bank of India (SBI),
Canara Bank, City Union Bank Limited (CUB) and Ocean Capital Market
Limited for violation of regulatory
norms.
·
Mumbai (Maharashtra) based
SBI was fined Rs 2 crore for contravening
certain norms related to the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund Scheme,
2014.
·
A penalty of Rs 16 lakh was imposed on Rourkela (Odisha) based Ocean Capital Market for breaching
certain provisions related to Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs).
·
Bengaluru
(Karnataka) based Canara Bank was penalized Rs 32.30 lakh for
non-compliance with specific directions issued by the RBI.
·
Kumbakonam
(Tamil Nadu) headquartered CUB was fined Rs 66 lakh for non-compliance with
RBI’s directions on income recognition, asset classification, and provisioning
pertaining to advances, and Know Your Customer (KYC) norms.

ASIA CUP 2024 STAGE I

Indian
archers won 14 medals (9 golds, 4 silvers, and 1 bronze) at stage I of the Archery Asia
Cup 2024, held in Baghdad, Iraq.
·
India
clinched the gold medal in all the individual events
including recurve (men & women) and compound (men & women) events.
·
India’s DeepikaKumari won the gold medal by
defeating SimranjeetKaur(India) in the women’s
individual recurve category.
·
In the recurve men’s individual event, India’s DhirajBommadevara won the
Gold medal by defeating Tarundeep Rai(India) in the finals.
·
In the men’s compound
event, India’s PrathameshSamadhanJawkar
won the gold medal by defeating KushalDalal (India) in the finals.
·
India’s
Parneet Kaur clinched the gold medal by
defeating FatemehHemmati (Iran) in the finals of the women’s individual
compound event.
·
Stage
II of the Archery Asia Cup 2024 is set to
be held in May 2024, in Bangkok,
Thailand.

World Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Day is annually observed across the globe on 27 February to recognise,
celebrate, and honour all non-governmental and nonprofit organisations that contribute

The theme for World NGO Day 2024 is “Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of
NGOs in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

TU-142M
NAVAL AIRCRAFT MUSEUM
·
India’s
3rd Aircraft Museum featuring Indian
Navy(IN)’s decommissioned TU-142M aircraft was inaugurated
at Kakinada Beach Park in East Godavari
district of Andhra Pradesh(AP).
·
This Aircraft Museum
was developed by Kakinada Urban Development Authority (KUDA) with an investment
of Rs. 5.89 crore.
·
The
first TU-142M aircraft Museum in India was
established in Visakhapatnam, AP in
2017 and the 2nd was established in Kolkata, West Bengal in 2022.
·
Tu-142M
is a Long Range Maritime Surveillance and Anti-Submarine Warfare Aircraft
designed by the Tupolev Design Bureau.

KHELO INDIA
WINTER GAMES 2024
·
The
Indian Army finished top and clinched the
overall trophy in the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2024 by winning 21 medals (10 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze).
·
Karnataka
secured second place with 11 medals (9 gold
and 2 silver), and Maharashtra secured
third place with 22 medals (7 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze).
·
The
mascot of the KIWG 2024 is a snow leopard.
·
The fourth
edition of KIWG was held in two stages with six sports events.
·
The
first stage has two ice sports (Ice Hockey
& Ice Skating) held in Leh, Ladakh.
·
The
second stage has four snow sports (Ski
Mountaineering, Alpine Skiing, Snowboard & Nordic Skiing) held in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.

RENOWNED
GHAZAL SINGER PANKAJ UDHAS PASSED AWAY
·
A prominent Indian
Ghazal singer and Padma Shri awardee Pankaj Keshubhai Udhas passed
away at the age of 72 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was born on 17 May 1951 in
Jetpur, Saurashtra, Gujarat.
·
Government of India
honoured him with the Padma Shri for
arts in 2006. .

NATIONAL
SCIENCE DAY 2024 – FEBRUARY 28
·
National Science Day (NSD) is annually observed across India
on 28 February to
commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’, a Nobel Prize-winning discovery by the
Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (CV Raman) in 1928.
·
The theme for NSD 2024 is “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat.”
