CONTRIBUTION TO UN REGULAR BUDGET FOR 2024

India contributed
USD 32.895 million (approximately Rs. 273 Crore) to the United Nations (UN)
Regular Budget (RB) for 2024 and earned its spot in the “Honour Roll of the UN for 2024”.

Honour
Roll is a list of UN that have paid their mandatory financial support in full to the UN’s RB within 30 days
of issuance of a payment note from the UN.

Member States have paid their regular budget assessments
in full within the 30 day due period specified in Financial Regulation 3.5 (by
8 February 2024).

ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards (Grammy 2024) was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California

became the first ever artist to win “Album of the Year” four times.

OF EL SALVADOR

Nayib
Armando Bukele Ortez(42-year-old), President of El Salvador, won the general elections 2024 and
was re-elected to the post for the 2nd consecutive term.

Nayib Bukele, the founder of Nuevas Ideas
(New Ideas) political party, has been serving as the President of El Salvador
since 2019.

ZOHO,
JUSPAY, AND DECENTRO RECEIVED RBI NOD FOR PAYMENT AGGREGATOR BUSINESS
·
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted final approval
to two fintech startups namely Juspay
Technologies Private Limited(Juspay) and Decfin Tech Private Limited
(Decfin) and a Software-as-a-Service(SaaS)
provider Zoho Payment Technologies Private Limited (Zoho) to act as a Payment Aggregator (PA).

These entities will carry on the business
of a PAs as defined in ‘Guidelines
on Regulation of Payment Aggregators and Payment Gateways’ issued by
RBI.

PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR

Nima
Sarikhani of the United Kingdom(UK) won the 2023 Wildlife Photographer of the Year 59
People’s Choice Award by the Natural
History Museum, London(UK).
·
Nima Sarikhani won this award for his photo of a polar bear sleeping
peacefully on a small iceberg.

Kazakhstan’s president Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev has appointed Olzhas
Bektenov(43 years) of Amanat
party as the new Prime Minister (PM) of
Kazakhstan.

The appointment comes after the dismissal
of Alikhan Smailov’s
government which was in power since January 2022.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Mio Oka as its new Country
Director for India.

incumbent Takeo Konishi who

UTTARAKHAND
1ST STATE TO PASS BILL ON UCC
·
Uttarakhand
Legislative Assembly passed the Uniform
Civil Code (UCC) Uttarakhand Bill, 2024 which aims to govern and regulate laws related to marriage, divorce,
land, property and inheritance for all citizens, irrespective of their
religion.
·
The bill was Introduced in the House by
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
·
The UCC Bill is based on the draft
submitted by a high-level committee formed by the Uttarakhand government under
the chairmanship of retired Supreme
Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.

GOVERNMENTS SUMMIT IN DUBAI

The 2024
World Governments Summit, scheduled to be held in Dubai has designated India, Türkiye, and Qatar as guests of honor.
·
Themed
‘Shaping Future Governments,’ the
summit aims to facilitate discussions among over 25 government and state heads
worldwide.

10. PATHUM NISSANKA SMASHES DOUBLE
CENTURY
·
Pathum
Nissanka etched his name in Sri Lankan cricket history, by
becoming the first-ever player to score
a double century in One Day Internationals (ODIs) for the nation.
·
His unbeaten knock of 210 runs against
Afghanistan was a masterclass in batting, shattering records and propelling Sri
Lanka to a massive victory.
·
Nissanka’s 210 is the highest individual
score by a Sri Lankan batsman in ODIs, surpassing Sanath Jayasuriya’s 189
from 2000.
11. LOGISTICS PERFORMANCE INDEX REPORT
2023
·
According to the World Bank's 'Logistics
Performance Index Report (2023): Connecting to Compete 2023', India ranks 38 out of 139 countries.
·
India’s rank has improved by six places
from 44 in 2018 and sixteen places from 54 in 2014.
12. TATA GROUP BECOMES FIRST INDIAN
CONGLOMERATE TO CROSS RS 30 LAKH CR MARKET CAP
·
Tata Group achieved a historic milestone
as its combined market capitalization surpassed Rs 30 lakh crore on February 6,
making it the first Indian business house to reach this valuation.
·
The overall valuation of Tata Group now stands at Rs 30.6 lakh crore, making it
the most valued conglomerate in the country, surpassing Reliance Group and
Adani Group in market cap rankings.
13. SAFF U-19 WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
·
India has won the South Asian Football Federation's (SAFF) U-19 Women's Championship beating defending champion Bangladesh
in the final of the fournation tournament in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
·
The
winner of the match was decided by a toss after a lengthy
penalty shootout.
·
All eleven players from each side
converted their penalties in the shootout after the contest ended 1-1 at full
time.
14. BHARAT RATNA TO NARASIMHA RAO, CHARAN
SINGH AND MS SWAMINATHAN
·
Former prime ministers P.V. Narasimha Rao
and Charan Singh, along with scientist M.S. Swaminathan will be awarded the
Bharat Ratna
·
The late PV Narasimha Rao served as the ninth Prime Minister of India from
1991-1996.
·
He is widely credited as the architect of India’s economic
liberalization in the 1990s.
·
Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan
Singh is being honored with the Bharat Ratna award posthumously for his unwavering commitment and
invaluable contributions to the welfare of farmers in India.

Singh served as the Chief Minister of
Uttar Pradesh twice
·
His birth anniversary is celebrated
as Kisan Diwas or National Farmers
Day.
·
Renowned agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan has been honored with
India’s highest civilian award for his instrumental role in pioneering the Green Revolution in India.
15. PRADHAN MANTRI MATSYA KISAN SAMRIDHI
SAH-YOJANA (PM-MKSSY)
·
The Union Cabinet approved the “Pradhan
Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY)”, a Central Sector
Sub-scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada aimed at formalizing the
fisheries sector and supporting fisheries micro and small enterprises.
·
The
scheme will be implemented from FY
2023-24 to FY 2026-27 in all States/Union Territories with an estimated outlay of Rs. 6,000 crore.
·
50% of the investment will be public finance and 50%
is expected from the private sector.
16. WORLD PULSES DAY-10 FEB
·
World Pulses Day is observed every year on
10th February. The day originated from the UN’s International
Year of Pulses (IYP) in 2016.
·
World Pulses Day 2024 theme is “Pulses: nourishing soils and people”.
