FREEDOM OF THE CITY OF
LONDON” AWARD
·
The City of London Corporation honoured Ajit Mishra,
an India-born Lawyer in the United Kingdom(UK) with the “Freedom
of the City of London” Award for his contribution to
strengthening the business partnership between the City of London and India.
·
The origin of Freedom of the City of London
dates back to the 13th century(1237). It is one of the oldest surviving
traditional ceremonies still in existence.
·
Before 1996, Freedom was only open to British
or Commonwealth Citizens. Later it was extended globally to admit persons of
any nationality.
·
Previous Notable recipients of this award
include the first Prime Minister(PM) of India, Jawahar Lal
Nehru, the First President of South
Africa Nelson Mandela, former PMs of the United Kingdom- Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher,

INDIAN NAVY TESTS BRAHMOS
MISSILE

Indian Navy (IN), in collaboration with BrahMos
Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL), test-fired an extended-range
BrahMos supersonic cruise missile (BrahMos ER)
·
The BrahMos ER is developed by BAPL.
·
BAPL is a joint venture (JV) between
Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya (NPO Mash)
and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
·
BrahMos
ER is an improved variant of the basic BrahMos missile,
with a range of around 450 to 500 kilometres, compared to 290
kilometres for the baseline version.
·
The two-stage missile operates on the
self-guided “fire-and-forget” principle.

World Bank launched 7-year USD
100 million principal-protected Plastic Waste Reduction-Linked Bond to support the World Bank’s
sustainable development activities globally.

Citi served as the Lead Manager for this bond.
·
This bond has a unique feature of linking investors’ return to the issuance
and monetization of Plastic Waste Recycling Credits, Plastic Waste
Collection Credits (collectively known as Plastic Credits), and Verified Carbon
Units (“VCUs”) from two plastic waste collection and recycling
projects in Ghana and Indonesia.

IRAN SIMULTANEOUSLY LAUNCHES
3 SATELLITES
·
Iran simultaneously launched 3
satellites for the 1st time using the
2-stage, liquid-fueled Simorgh (Phoenix) Satellite
Launch Vehicle (SLV) developed by the Ministry of Defence.
·
The satellites were launched from the Imam Khomeini Spaceport in Semnan
province, Iran into Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
·
The 3 satellites incldues a larger satellite named Mahda and
two nanosatellites, Keyhan-2 and Hatef-1.
·
Mahda,
a “research satellite” developed by Iran’s Space Agency (ISA),
is designed to test advanced satellite subsystems.
·
Keyhan
2 and Hatef 1 nano-satellites have been developed by Iran
Electronics Industries (IEI), a state-owned subsidiary of the Ministry of
Defence.

INDIAN NAVY DECOMMISSIONED
INS NIRUPAK
·
The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Nirupak,
an indigenously designed and built hydrographic survey ship, was decommissioned at
the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh(AP).
·
The ship was decommissioned after 38 years of
service to the nation.
·
INSNirupak, the 3rd ship of the Sandhayak class, was launched on June 1981 at Garden Reach Shipbuilders &
Engineers Ltd(GRSE) in Kolkata, West Bengal(WB).

INS SUMITRA CARRIED
OUT TWO SUCCESSFUL ANTI PIRACY OPERATIONS
·
INS Sumitra successfully carried out Two anti-piracy operations in the
Southern Arabian Sea approximately 850 nautical miles (nm) West of Kochi,
Kerala.
·
In less than 36 hours, INS Sumitra rescued two hijacked Fishing Vessels (FVs) and prevented misuse
of these FVs for acts of Piracy on Merchant Vessels.
·
INS Sumitra responded to a distress message
from Iranian-flagged FV Iman and rescued the FV and
her crew of 17 Iranian Nationals from pirates
·
INS Sumitra also rescued another Iranian-flagged
FV Al Naeemi and her Crew of 19 Pakistani Nationals from
11 Somali Pirates.
·
INS Sumitra is an indigenous Offshore Patrol
Vessel deployed for Anti-Piracy and Maritime Security Operations in East of
Somalia and the Gulf of Aden.

The first-ever United Nations (UN) International
Day of Clean Energy was globally observed on 26
January 2024 to create awareness and mobilise action towards a

Energy Agency (IRENA), 26 January 2024 marks
