CLIMATE CHANGE PERFORMANCE

According
to the report released during the global climate talks COP28, India still remains in the list of
countries making the most efforts
towards climate change.

The Climate Change Index assesses the
efforts of 63 countries and the
European Union to reduce carbon emissions.

In
this index, China is at 51st place
and America is at 57th place.
2. PAPUA NEW GUINEA MOUNT ULAWUN VOLCANIC ERUPTION
●
India announces a $1 million relief assistance package for Papua New Guinea in the aftermath of
the Mount Ulawun volcanic eruption.
●
Ulawun is the highest mountain in
New Britain
and the second in the Bismarck Archipelago at 2,334 metres, and is one of the most active volcanoes in Papua
New Guinea.

3. WORLD’S LARGEST CONCENTRATED SOLAR POWER PROJECT
●
The fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum Solar Park has been inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and
Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
●
Built
at an investment of 15.78 billion, the 950 MW project utilises
three hybrid technologies.
●
The
three hybrid technologies used are 600 MW from a parabolic basin complex, 100
MW from a CSP tower, and 250 MW from photovoltaic solar panels.
●
According
to Guinness World Records, the project includes the world’s tallest solar tower at 263.126 metres and the largest
thermal energy storage capacity with a capacity of 5,907 megawatt hours.
4. LALDUHOMA IS NEW CHIEF MINISTER OF MIZORAM
●
Lalduhoma will take oath as the 6th Chief Minister (CM) of
Mizoram.
●
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will administer the oath to Mr
Lalduhoma.

Lalrinpuii
is the lone woman minister in the 12-member
council of ministry.

5. NEW CHAIRMAN OF THE BBC
●
Dr Samir Shah, an India-born media executive
with over 40 years of experience in TV production and journalism, has been
named as the United Kingdom (UK)
government’s preferred candidate to take over as the new BBC chairman.

Dr
Shah will replace Richard
Sharp, who was forced to resign after his communication with former Prime
Minister Boris Johnson came under scrutiny.
6. HUMAN RIGHTS DAY ON 10TH DECEMBER
●
Human Rights Day 2023 is observed on the 10th of December 2023.
●
Human
Rights Day’s first observation was
started in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
●
The theme for Human Rights Day 2023 is "Freedom, Equality, and Justice for All".
7. NOBEL PRIZE DAY - 10TH DECEMBER
●
Nobel Prize Day 2023 is observed on the 10th of December 2023.
●
Alfred Nobel’s father was an
engineer himself
and Alfred Nobel expressed early interest in engineering, and explosives in
particular.
●
Alfred Nobel died on 10 December
1896, in Sanremo, Italy, at his very last residence, Villa Nobel
8. UNICEF FOUNDATION - 11TH DECEMBER
●
UNICEF Foundation Day 2023 is observed on the 11th of December 2023.
●
UNICEF
was created by the N. Relief
Rehabilitation Administration in 1946 to provide relief funds for children and
mothers affected by World War II with immediate aid.
●
In
that same year, the U.N. General Assembly founded the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)
to further institutionalize post-war relief work.

1ST INDIAN ART, ARCHITECTURE &
DESIGN BIENNALE 2023
●
Prime
Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated the 1st Indian Art, Architecture, and Design Biennale 2023 (IAADB’23),
which is being organized by the Ministry of Culture at Red Fort in New Delhi,
Delhi.
●
The
event brings together artists, designers, and architects from India to showcase
innovations in art, design, and architecture.

24TH HORNBILL FESTIVAL CONCLUDED IN
NAGALAND
●
Hornbill
Festival, referred as ‘Festival of
Festivals’ is annually from 1st to
10th December in Nagaland to encourage inter-tribal interaction and to
preserve, protect and revive the uniqueness and richness of the Naga heritage.

RBI’S 5TH BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY
OF FY24
●
The
Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) met on December
6-8, 2023, and released the 5th ‘Monetary
Policy Statement, 2023-24 Resolution of the MPC‘ which kept India’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
growth 7% in FY24 (2023-24) with FY24’s Q3 at 6.5%, and Q4 at 6%.
●
Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation or retail inflation is projected at
5.4% for FY24,
●
RBI
raises the limit for UPI payments to
hospitals and educational institutions from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per
transaction.

CHARGE:
●
Union
Minister Arjun Munda, Ministry of
Tribal Affairs (MoTA), has been given additional
charge as the Union Minister for the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers
Welfare (MoA&FW).
●
Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State (MoS) for
MoA&FW was given additional charge of MoS
in Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI).
●
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MoS for Ministry of Skill
Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Ministry of Electronics and
Information Technology (MeitY) was given additional
charge as the MoS of Ministry of Jal
Shakti (MoJS).
●
Bharti Pravin Pawar, MoS of Ministry of Health and
Family Welfare (MoH&FW) was given additional charge as the MoS in MoTA.
