1.       NATIONAL MEDICAL DEVICES POLICYLAUNCHED

·          The Union Minister MansukhMandaviya, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), unveiled the National Medical Devices Policy, 2023, and launched the Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices during the inaugural event of the 8th International Conference on Pharma and Medical Device Sector in New Delhi.

·         A scheme titled ‘Assistance for Medical Devices clusters for Common Facilities (AMD-CF)’ to establish and strengthen common infrastructure facilities in the medical devices clusters and fortify testing facilities for medical devices.

·         8 International Conference on Pharma and Medical Device Sector which was to promote India as a manufacturing hub of quality medical products in the pharmaceutical and Medical Device Sector.

 

2.       PM MODI FLAGS OFF UTTARAKHAND’S 1ST VANDE BHARAT TRAIN

·         Prime Minister NarendraModi virtually flagged off Uttarakhand’s 1st semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Train connecting Dehradun with Delhi.

3.       SAMARTH CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE DIGITAL TRANSACTIONS AT GRAM PANCHAYAT LEVEL

·         A Campaign on Promoting Digital Transactions in 50000 Gram Panchayats namely ‘SAMARTH’ under the AzadiKaAmritMahotsav was launched in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh by the Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).

·         This campaign was already initiated on February 1, 2023, to promote Digital Transactions in rural areas, particularly among women.

·         The BC (Banking Correspondent) Sakhis in UP brought digital transformation to the tune of 5 Crore 57 lakh transactions.

·         BC SakhiYojana was launched by the CM of UP to benefit the women residents of the state by providing employment possibilities through this scheme.

·         Under the scheme, the state govt deploys BC Sakhi in rural regions to eliminate the need for rural residents to travel to the bank as Sakhi delivers the money to their doorstep.

 

4.       UNICEF/WHO/THE WORLD BANK GROUP’S JME 2023 REPORT

·         According to  Levels and trends in child malnutrition: United Nations Children’s Fund/World Health Organization/International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, The World Bank Group: the Joint Child Malnutrition Estimates (UNICEF/WHO/The World Bank Group: JME) key findings of the 2023 edition’ report released,18.7% of Indian children were affected by wasting in 2020 due to poor nutrient intake and/or recurrent illnesses.

·         India is the largest country in southern Asia, which has half of all children with wasting in the world live.

·         In 2022, an estimated 45 million children under five (6.8%) were affected by wasting globally, of which 13.6 million (2.1%) were suffering from severe wasting.

·         India had a stunting rate of 31.7% in 2022, compared to 41.6 % in 2012, a decade ago.

·         India had an overweight percentage of 2.8% in 2022, compared to 2.2% in 2012.

5.       SEBI SETS UP INTERMEDIARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

·         The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) constituted a 21-member Intermediary Advisory Committeechaired by the former SEBI executive director(ED) S Ravindran.

·         The committee will advise SEBI on changes in legal framework and increasing transparency in the functioning of market intermediaries like stock exchanges, depository participants, clearing corporations, among others.

·         SEBI was constituted as a non-statutory body in 1988 and later it was established as a statutory body in the 1992.

6.       RBI APPROVES AMALGAMATION OF MARATHA CO-OP BANK WITH COSMOS CO-OPERATIVE BANK

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sanctioned the merging of the voluntary Scheme of Amalgamation of Maratha SahakariBank  Ltd., Mumbai (Maharashtra) with the Cosmos Co-operative Bank Ltd, Pune (Maharashtra).

·         It is the second largest urban cooperative bank of India through Voluntary scheme of amalgamation from May 29, 2023, in exercise of its powers conferred under Sub-Section (4) of Section 44A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation (BR) Act, 1949.

 

·         A voluntary scheme of amalgamation refers to a merger or consolidation of two or more companies based on their mutual agreement and voluntary decision. The Companies Act, 2013, governs the process and regulations related to amalgamations and mergers in India.

 

7.       PRINCESS SOPHIA DULEEP SINGH LONDON HOME HONOURED WITH COMMEMORATIVE BLUE PLAQUE

·         The London home of Princess Sophia Duleep Singh, a suffragette Indian princess, Red Cross nurse, and critic of British rule in India,  washonoured with the English Heritage’s commemorative Blue Plaque in London, the United Kingdom (UK).

·         Sophia Duleep Singh was Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s granddaughter and the daughter of Maharaja Duleep Singh, the last ruler of the Sikh empire and the goddaughter of Queen Victoria.

·         In 1910, she was also a part of the action on “Black Friday”, where more than 300 Suffragettes marched on Parliament.

·         Suffragette is a woman seeking the right to vote through organized protest.

·         She supported the Indian Women’s Education Association in London (UK) and nursed Indian soldiers during World War I and housed refugees during World War II.

·         Sophia Duleep Singh, the last princess of the Sikh Empire died in August 1948.

 

8.       MUKESH AMBANI APPOINTED AS MEMBER OF ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF COP28

·         MukeshAmbani, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Reliance Industries has been appointed as a member of the Advisory Committee to the President of the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

·         MukeshAmbani is the only Indian, other than SunitaNarain, Director General, Centre for Science and Environment, on the Advisory Committee to the President of COP28.

·         The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the COP28 Advisory Committee from November 30 to December 12, 2023 in Dubai, UAE that brings together the climate expertise of thought leaders from countries across 6 continents.

·         UNFCCC Secretariat announced the appointment of Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, as President-Designate of COP 28.

·         The United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conferences are yearly conferences held in the framework of the UNFCCC.

·         They serve as the formal meeting of the UNFCCC parties (COP) to assess progress in dealing with climate change.

 

9.       PARMINDER CHOPRA TO BECOME 1ST WOMAN CMD OF POWER FINANCE CORPORATION

·         Parminder Chopra is set to become the first woman Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Power Finance Corporation (PFC), India’s largest non-banking financial company (NBFC) and a Central Public Sector Undertaking(PSU) under the Ministry of Power.

 

10.    GOI APPOINTS CHIEF JUSTICES OF 5 HIGH COURTS

·         The Government of India (GoI) has appointed chief justices to five High Courts: Bombay, Madras, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan. These appointments were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud on 19th April 2023.

·         The appointments were made by the President of India, in exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India.

11.    PM NARENDRA MODI INAUGURATED NEW PARLIAMENT HOUSE

·         Prime Minister NarendraModi inaugurate the new building of Parliament House and dedicated it to the nation and installed theSengol with Nandi at the top facing East-West direction in the new Parliament House.

·         The new parliament building includes the LokSabha, RajyaSabha, Central Lounge, Central Hall for joint session, Constitutional hall, open courtyard and Offices.

·         The new LokSabha has a seating capacity of 888 members, almost thrice the number compared to the current chamber of 552 seats.

·         The new RajyaSabha complex have a seating capacity of 384 members compared to 245 seats of the current chamber.

·         PM NarendraModi placed the historic sceptre ‘Sengol’ near the LokSabha Speaker’s chair in the newly built Parliament building. The name of the historical sceptre, ‘Sengol’ was derived from the Tamil word ‘semmai,’ meaning ‘righteousness/full of wealth’.

 

·         PM unveiled a commemorative stamp and a special Rs 75 coin during the inauguration of the new Parliament building.

·         The coin is made from a four-part alloy, comprising 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel and 5% zinc.

 

12.    ATAL BHUJAL YOJANA WATER SCHEME EXTENDED FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS

·         The National Level Steering Committee (NLSC) at its fourth meeting held in New Delhi, Delhi has made a decision for the continuation of the AtalBhujalYojana (AtalJal), India’s Central Sector water conservation Scheme for an additional two years beyond its original 2025 end date.

·         The AtalBhujalYojana Scheme is facilitating sustainable ground water management since April 2020, as a Central Sector Scheme under the Department of Water Resources (DoWR), River Development (RD) and Ganga Rejuvenation (GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti.

 

13.    76TH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

·         The 76th annual Cannes International Film Festival was held in Cannes, France.

·         French film director Justine Triet’s French courtroom thriller ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ has won the top award of the 2023 – ‘Palme d’Or’ for best feature film.

·         The Grand Prix, the cannes film festival’s runner-up award, was given to ‘The Zone of Interest’, Directed by Jonathan Glazer, which was based on the novel of the same title written by Martin Amis.

·         Japanese actor, Koji Yakusho won the best actor prize at the 2023 Cannes Festival, for his role in WimWenders’ Perfect Days.

 

14.    IIFA AWARDS 2023

·         The 23rd edition of NEXA International Indian Film Academy (IIFA 2023) Awards was held in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

·         Bollywood actor HrithikRoshan won Best Actor in a Leading Role (male) for his performance in VikramVedha and Alia Bhatt won Best Actoressin a Leading Role (Female) for her role in GangubaiKathiawadi.

·         Veteran actor and Padma Shri Awardee Kamal Haasan was conferred the Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema award.

·         RiteishDeshmuk and Genelia D’Souza, Ved were honoured with the Outstanding Achievement in Regional Cinema.

·         Manish Malhotra was honoured with Outstanding Achievement for Fashion in Cinema.

·         Actor and producer R. Madhavan won the Best Director award for his directorial debut film “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.”

·         Drishyam 2 starring Ajay Devgan and Tabu won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Film.

·         IIFA awards were first instituted in 2000 at London, the United Kingdom (UK). 

 

15.    CENTRAL VIGILANCE COMMISSIONER

·         Vigilance Commissioner Praveen KumarSrivastava (PK Srivastava) was appointed as the Central Vigilance Commissioner, chief of the anti-corruption watchdog Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

·         The Central Vigilance Commission acts on complaints of corruption in Central Government Ministries, Bodies and Departments.

16.    NEW PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA

·         Bola Ahmed Tinubu,, the former governor of Lagos (Nigeria), was sworn in as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

·         KashimShettima, a Nigerian Politician, has been appointed as the Vice-President of Nigeria.

 

17.    ISRO’S GSLV-F12 SUCCESSFULLY PLACES NAVIGATION SATELLITE NVS-01 INTO ORBIT

·         The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the  GSLV-F12/NVS-01 mission and placed a second-generation Navigation Satellite, NVS-01, into geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO).

·         The satellite was carried through a 51.7-metre-tall, 3-stage Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) rocket with a cryogenic upper stage and lifted off from the SatishDhawan Space Center(SDSC)-Sriharikota Range(SHAR), Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh(AP).

 

18.    MALAYSIA MASTERS BADMINTON 2023

·         Indian ShutlerPrannoyHaseena Sunil Kumar (HS Prannoywon the Men’sSingles Title at the Perodua Malaysia Masters 2023 by defeating China’s Weng Hong Yang.

·         This mark’s his maiden Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Title.

·         Malaysia Masters 2023 is the first event for the Road to Paris – the qualifying cycle for Paris 2024 Olympics.

20.    WORLD HUNGER DAY 2023 – MAY 28

·         World Hunger Day is annually observed across the globe on 28th May to create awareness about the significance of ending hunger. The day also highlights the significance of the Global Food Crisis, towards finding a sustainable solution towards a hunger-free planet.

·         The theme of World Hunger Day 2023 observed on 28th May 2023 is “Celebrating sustainable solutions to hunger and poverty”.

·         World Hunger Day is an international initiative, established in 2011 by ‘The Hunger Project’, A Global, Non-Profit, Strategic Organisation which runs programmes across 12 countries in Africa, Latin America and South Asia.

 

21.    NORTHEAST’S FIRST VANDE BHARAT EXPRESS

·         Prime Minister (PM) NarendraModi virtually flagged off the Northeast region’s first Vande Bharat Express which will connect Guwahati (Assam) with New Jalpaiguri (West Bengal).

·         This is also the first “Made in India” Vande Bharat Express of Assam and the 3rd Vande Bharat Express connecting West Bengal.

·         The state-of-the-art train is fitted with the modern train collision avoidance system (TCAS), also known as Kavach, and has numerous facilities such as bio-vacuum toilets and others.

 

22.    SEBI RECONSTITUTES INTERMEDIARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

·         Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has reconstituted its intermediary advisory committee, which would suggest it on matters related to changes in the legal framework and enhancing transparency in systems and procedures of market intermediaries including stock brokers, depository participants, and clearing members.

·         The 21-member intermediary advisory committee would continue to be chaired byS Ravindran, former executive director at SEBI.

 

23.    YES BANK UNVEILS NEW LOGO &TAGLINE

·         Yes Bank, headquartered in Mumbai(Maharashtra) has unveiled a new logo and brand identity.

·         The tick has been transformed into a soaring bird, representing the Bank’s current position of ‘soaring’.

·         The red and blue have been given an  electric tone, representing the high energy and innovation of the bank.

·         The bank also launched an integrated campaign with the tagline – ‘Life KoBanao Rich’ which represents its core focus of being a complete solution provider.

 

24.    INDIA & 13 IPEF PARTNER NATIONS CONCLUDED THE IPEF SUPPLY CHAIN AGREEMENT

·         India and the 13 other partner countries of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), the Economic initiative led by the United States,  announced the substantial conclusion of the negotiations of a first-of-its-kind international ‘IPEF Supply Chain Agreement’ at the IPEF Ministerial Meeting which was held in Detroit, Michigan, the United States of America(USA).

·         The agreement over Supply Chain (Pillar II) aims to increase the resilience, efficiency, productivity, sustainability, transparency, diversification, security, fairness, and inclusivity of the 14 partner nations’ supply chains through both collaborative activities and individual actions taken by each IPEF partner.

 

 

·         The 14 IPEF partner nations include India, the United States, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

 

25.    CAG MURMU RE-ELECTED AS EXTERNAL AUDITOR OF WHO FOR 2024-2027

·         Comptroller and Auditor General of India Girish Chandra Murmu was re-elected as the external auditor of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a four-year term from 2024 to 2027.

·         The term of office is 4 years, and it can be extended once, by the World Health Assembly, for an additional 4 years.

 

26.    CHINA LAUNCHES SHENZHOU-16: FIRST CIVILIAN ASTRONAUT JOINS SPACE STATION MISSION

·         China successfully launched the Shenzhou-16 manned spaceship, sending three astronauts, including the first civilian to its Tiangong space station for 5-month mission.

·         It was launched onboard Long March-2F carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in Gobi Desert in northwest China.

·         China will be the only country to own a space station as the International Space Station (ISS) of Russia is a collaborative project of several countries.

 

27.    INTERNATIONAL DAY OF UNITED NATIONS PEACEKEEPERS 2023 – 29TH MAY

·         International Day of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers is annually observed across the globe on 29th May to pay tribute to the UN Peacekeepers

·         2023 marks the 75th anniversary of UN Peacekeeping, which began in 1948 when the UN Security Council (UNSC) authorized the deployment of UN military observers to the Middle East.

·         The theme of the 75th anniversary of UN Peacekeeping/International Day of UN Peacekeepers is ‘Peace begins with me’.

 

28.    INTERNATIONAL EVEREST DAY 2023 – MAY 29

·         International Everest Day is annually celebrated on 29th May to commemorate the first-ever summit of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa of Nepal on 29th May 1953.

·         Mount Everest is a peak located between Nepal and Tibet, an autonomous region of China.

·         At 8,848.86 meters (29,031 Feet), it is considered the tallest point on Earth.

29.    76TH ANNUAL WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY

·         The Health Assembly is held annually in Geneva, Switzerland.

·         The theme of this 2023’s Health Assembly is: WHO at 75: Saving lives, driving health for all.

·         Union Minister MansukhMandaviya delivered the keynote address at a side event session on ‘Heal in India & Heal by India’ and ‘Together we fight against TB’ at the 76th World Health Assembly, reiterating India’s contribution in the field of Medical Value Travel and India’s resolve to eliminate Tuberculosis from India by 2025.

·         World Health Assembly not extended Taiwan an invitation to the event and it was excluded due to the Chinese opposition.

 

30.    PAKISTAN, AFGHANISTAN AMONG GLOBAL HUNGER HOTSPOTS

·         According to the ‘Hunger Hotspots: FAO-WFP early warnings on acute food insecurity, June to November 2023 Outlook’ report by the United Nations (UN) agencies of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), globally Hunger is set to worsen in 18 ‘hotspots’ comprising a total of 22 countries including the regions in India’s neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Myanmar.

·         Hotspots are places where acute hunger is at a high risk of worsening from June to November 2023.

31.    ADB LAUNCHES INDIA CPS FOR 2023-27

·         Asian Development Bank (ADB) rolled out its ‘India Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) 2023-2027: Catalyze Robust, Climate resilent, and inclusive growth’ to assist India in its efforts to achieve sustainable, climate-resilient, and inclusive growth for the next five years.

·         Aim of CPS: To support India to catalyze robust, climate-resilient, and inclusive growth. The CPS is well aligned with India’s national development priorities to be achieved by 2047, when India marks 100 years of independence.

32.    57TH JNANPITH AWARD

·         DamodarMauzo, an eminent Konkani writer and SahityaAkademi Award winner, received the 57th Jnanpith Award from P S Sreedharan Pillai, Governor of Goa, at an event held at the Raj Bhavan, Panaji, Goa.

·         He is the 2nd konkani writer after RavindraKelekar to receive the award.  RavindraKelekar was the recipient of the 42nd Jnanpith Award.

·         He was honoured with the Jnanpith Award, India’s highest literary honour, for his outstanding contribution to literature.

·         NilmaniPhookan, an Assamese poet received the 56th Jnanpith Award.

·         DamodarMauzo,works include: Ganthon (1971), Karmelin (1983), Tsunami Simon (1996), Teresa’s Man and Other Stories from Goa (2014), The Wait and Other Stories (2022).

·         The Jnanpith Award is recognised as the oldest and the highest Indian literature for English and other Indian languages.

35.    INDIA CONDUCTS ASIA’S 1ST PERFORMANCE-BASED HELICOPTER NAVIGATION

·         India conducted Asia’s first demonstration of performance-based navigation for helicopters. The flight from Juhu (a suburb of Mumbai), Maharashtra to Pune, Maharashtra was made using GAGAN (GPS(Global Positioning System) Aided GEO Augmented Navigation) satellite technology, which allows high-quality of air traffic management.

·         The GAGAN technology was jointly developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Airports Authority of India(AAI).:

·         The GAGAN technology supports the aircraft/helicopters with guided landing at airports which do not have instrument landing systems for low-visibility operations.

·         The GAGAN is a state-of-the-art space-based augmentation system that uses a system of ground stations to provide necessary augmentations to the GPS standard positioning service(SPS) navigation signal.

·         GAGAN is the regional Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) implemented by the government of India.

 

36.    NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE FOR FSSAI

·         Union Minister DrMansukhMandaviya, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) inaugurated the state-of-the-art National Training Centre for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

·         As mandated by the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act 2006 and the FSS Rules, 2011, FSSAI is responsible for providing training to individuals involved in food businesses, including food business operators, employees, Food Safety Officers, and designated officers.

·         Food Safety and Certification (FoSTaC), an e- learning app developed by FSSAI that contains learning and training modules about food safety guidelines, such as proper food handling, storage, and hygiene practices etc., for street vendors was launched by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare.

 

37.    INDIA JOINS CENTRALISED LABORATORY NETWORK (CLN)

·         India through its Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV) has joined the Centralized Laboratory Network (CLN) of Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI’s) which works to test vaccines which can be used during a pandemic, epidemic disease outbreak.

·         5 new members based in Africa and India joined the CLN network and currently it has 15 partner facilities in 13 countries.

·         The five new members of the CLN are India,Senegal,Kenya,South Africa. Uganda

39.    MH-60R HELICOPTER MAKES MAIDEN LANDING ON INS VIKRANT

·         The Indian Navy’s MH-60Romeo’ (MH-60R) helicopter, known for its anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare capabilities, successfully landed for the first time on the Indian Naval Ship (INS) NS Vikrant, an indigenously designed and constructed aircraft carrier.

·         The MH-60R, stationed at the Naval air station INS Garuda in Kochi, Kerala, made the landing on the indigenously designed and constructed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in the Arabian Sea.

 

40.    WORLD MILK DAY 2023 – JUNE 1

·         World Milk Day (WMD) is annually celebrated across the world on 1st June to create awareness about the importance of milk, one of the most widely produced and valuable agricultural commodities on Earth.

·         The common theme of the observance is “The potency of milk and the milk industry.”

 

41.    NATO LAUNCHES ARCTIC EXERCISES 2023

·         The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries have started the multinational Arctic Military Challenge exercise 2023, with a pledge to defend their newest member, Finland, which is hosting its first joint training in Rovajarvi, one of Europe’s largest artillery training grounds in Northern Finland.

·         The 2023 Arctic Challenge Exercise (ACE 23) scheduled from 29 May 2023 to 9 June 2023, is the sixth of its kind which Finland, Norway, and Sweden have hosted together.

·         The addition of Finland doubled the length of the border NATO shares with Russia, while Finland shares a 1,300-kilometre (800-mile) border with Russia.

·         Finland became the 31st member of NATO since April 2023.

42.    INDIA’S GDP GROWS AT 7.2% IN FY23: UNION GOVT DATA

·         According to the official data released by the Union Government on May 30, 2023, the Indian Economy’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in Q4 FY23 (Fourth Quarter of Financial Year 2022-23) i.e. from January to March 2023 is projected at 6.1% year-on-year (YoY) when compared to the 4.5% growth in Q3 FY23 and 4% in FY22.

·         India’s growth rate for FY23 was projected at 7.2% compared to 9.1% GDP growth in FY22. Due to this growth, the Indian economy is now USD 3.3 trillion in size.

·         Prof Celeste Saulo, a leading meteorologist from Argentina, was appointed as the first female Secretary-General (SG) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), United Nations’ (UN) specialised agency for meteorology.

·         MrutyunjayMohapatra, Director General (DG) of India Meteorological Department (IMD), under the Ministry of Earth Science, has been elected as the Third Vice-President of WMO.

45.    UNGA PRESIDENT FOR THE 78TH SESSION

·         Dennis Francis, Trinidad and Tobago’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), was elected as the President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the General Assembly Hall at UN Headquarters in New York, United States of America (USA).

·         He will succeed CsabaKÅ‘rösi of Hungary, President of the 77th session of the UNGA.

·         In accordance with the established regional rotation, the President of the 78th session of the UNGA was elected from the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States.

·         The 193 Member UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization.

·         The main functions of the UNGA include appointing the Secretary-General on the recommendation of the Security Council, electing the non-permanent members of the Security Council and approving the UN budget.

 

46.    MEN’S HOCKEY JUNIOR ASIA CUP 2023

·         India won the Dhofar Municipality Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 defeating Pakistan in the finals held in Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex Stadium in Salalah, Oman.

·         This marks India’s 4th Men’s Junior Asia Cup title.

·         Uttam Singh, Captain of the Indian Team, was awarded the Player of the Match(finals).
