DAILY GK 6-8 APRIL

 1.       3RD INDIA JUSTICE REPORT 2022

·         The 3rd edition of India Justice Report i.e. ‘IJR 2022’ was released in which Karnataka has achieved the top rank in delivery of Justice among the 18 large and mid-sized States with populations over one crore.

·         Karnataka is followed by Tamil Nadu (TN) in 2nd position and Telangana at 3rd.

·         In this category Uttar Pradesh (UP) is at rank 18th which is the lowest.

·         Among the category of Seven Small States with a population less than one crore was topped by Sikkim.

 

2.       GI TAGS TO 33 NEW PRODUCTS

·         The Government of India (GoI) has given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to 33 new products from different states, including Bihar (1), Uttar Pradesh (10), Madhya Pradesh (1), Chhattisgarh (1), and Tamil Nadu (11), as well as the Union Territories (UT) of Ladakh (1) and Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) (8).

·         The total number of GI Tags in India has risen to 465.

·         GI tags are issued by the Geographical Indication Registry under the Department of Industry Promotion and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

·         GI tags are issued as per the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act of 1999.

·         The 1st GI Tag in India was facilitated to the Darjeeling Tea (Agricultural), West Bengal.

 

3.       GOI TO ADD 250 GW OF RE CAPACITY OVER THE NEXT 5 YEARS

·         The Government of India (GoI) has announced a plan to install 250 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy (RE) capacity over the next 5 years in order to meet its target of 500 GW of clean energy by 2030.

·         The GoI has chosen to invite bids for 50 GW of RE capacity annually for the next 5 years, from Fiscal Year 2023-24 (FY24) to Fiscal Year 2027-28 (FY28).

·         The installation of wind power capacity of at least 10 GW annually will also be included in these annual bids of RE capacity connected to the ISTS (Inter-State Transmission System).

·         As of February 28, 2023, India had a total RE capacity of 168.96 GW, with roughly 82 GW in various stages of deployment and about 41 GW available for auction.

·         This includes 64.38 GW of solar power, 51.79 GW of hydropower, 42.02 GW of wind power, and 10.77 GW of biopower.

 

4.       1ST INDIAN WOMAN HOCKEY PLAYER TO HAVE A STADIUM NAMED AFTER HER

·         The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) Stadium in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh(UP), has been renamed the ‘Rani’s Girls Hockey Turf’ in honour of former captain of the Indian women’s hockey team Rani Rampal.

·         Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna 2020 (now Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna) and Padma Shri awardee (2020) Rani Rampal became the 1st Indian woman hockey player to have a stadium named after her.

·         She was the 1st woman hockey player to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.

 

5.       FINLAND BECOMES NATO’S 31ST ALLY

·         Finland became the 31st member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on April 4, 2023, when it presented its instrument of accession to the ‘North Atlantic Treaty’ (Washington Treaty) with the United States (US) at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

·         The accession of Finland coincides with the 74th anniversary of the ‘Washington Treaty’, which established NATO, that was signed on April 4, 1949, and is commemorated by a flag-raising ceremony at NATO headquarters.

·         NATO is a political and military alliance of countries in Europe and North America.

·         NATO was established on the Washington Treaty, also known as the North Atlantic Treaty.

6.       UK BECOME 12TH MEMBER OF CPTPP

·         The Accession Working Group (AWG) of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) agreed on the accession of the United Kingdom (UK) as the 12th member of CPTPP

·         With this UK became the first European nation and the first non-founding country to join CPTPP.

·         CPTPPis a free trade agreement (FTA) signed by 11 nations – Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam on 8 March 2018 in Santiago, Chile.

 

7.       FORBES 37TH WORLD BILLIONAIRE LIST 2023

·         Forbes released its 37th Annual World Billionaire List 2023 in which MukeshAmbani regained his spot as Asia’s richest person.

·         With a net worth of USD 83.4 billion,he was ranked at No. 9 on the world billionaire list.

·         MukeshAmbani is followed by Gautam Adani at 2nd place with net worth of USD 47.2 billion. His world ranking is 24th.

·         ShivNadar is the 3rd richest person in India with USD 25.6 billion. His world ranking is 55th.

·         Among the newcomers is the youngest Indian billionaire, 36-year-old Nikhil Kamath, who co-founded discount brokerage Zerodha with his older sibling Nithin Kamath (also a newcomer).

·         Bernard Arnault& Family is richest in world followed by    Elon Musk at 2nd place      

·         Americans have a greater presence on the Forbes 2023 list than individuals from any other country or territory, with 735 billionaires hailing from the US.

·         China is in second place with 495 billionaires, followed by India with 169 billionaires,

 

8.       47TH OLIVER AWARD

·         AnjanaVasan, a Chennai-born Singaporean actress and singer-songwriter based out of London, United Kingdom (UK), won Best Supporting Actress in the Play at the 47th edition of Olivier Awards (2023) held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK.

·         She was recognised for her role as Stella Kowalski in the revival of Tennessee Williams’ play “A Streetcar Named Desire”.

·         Olivier Awards, Established in 1976 by the Society of West End Theatre (now known as the Society of London Theatre (SOLT)), celebrate the world-class status of London theatre. Oliver Awards are Britain’s most prestigious stage honours.

 

9.       INDIA & ROMANIA SIGNED THEIR FIRST DEFENCE COOPERATION AGREEMENT

·         India and Romania signed the defence cooperation agreement in New Delhi

·         This agreement will set the foundation of the practical cooperation between the armed forces of India and Romania.

·         Under this agreement, Romania will cooperate with India on military education, training, cyber defence, military medicine, military history and other domains that can benefit both the nations.

·         Romania joined North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in 2004 and European Union(EU) in 2007.

10.    ‘TOP 10 BUSIEST AIRPORTS WORLDWIDE FOR 2022’

·         The Airports Council International (ACI) World published the ‘Top 10 Busiest Airports Worldwide for 2022,’ which ranked Delhi Airport [Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA)] as the 9th busiest airport in the world in 2022

·         Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) remained the busiest airport overall, with 93.7 million passengers.

·         Dallas/Fort Worth TX and Denver airports are at second and third spots respectively.

 

11.    RBI DATA ON BANK CREDIT GROWTH

·         According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, India’s Bank credit increased by 15% year-on-year (YoY) in the Financial year 2022-23 (FY23), against 9.6% YoY in 2021-22 (FY22).

·         Bank deposits expanded 9.58% YoY in FY23, against 8.9% YoY growth in FY22.

·         The credit in absolute terms rose Rs 17.83 trillion in FY23, up from Rs 10.43 trillion in FY22.

·         According to the RBI’s data on Scheduled Bank’s Statement of Position in India, the outstanding credit stood at Rs 136.75 trillion at the end of the last fortnight of FY23 (on March 24, 2023)

·         Outstanding deposits stood at Rs 180.43 trillion in FY23

·         The interest rate on one-year term deposits was in the range of 5-5.6% around the end of March 2022 and moved up to 6-7.25% by the end of March 2023.

·         The savings deposit rate remained in the range of2.7-3% in March 2022 and March 2023.

 

12.    MCC WITH HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP

·         Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) based at the Lord’s Cricket Ground (since 1814) in London, the United Kingdom(UK), has awarded honorary life membership of the Club to 17 World’s finest cricketers

·         5 Indian cricketers(3 men and 2 women): Mahendra Singh Dhoni(MS Dhoni); Suresh Raina; Yuvraj Singh; Mithali Raj and JhulanGoswamiare also included.

·         International Cricket Council(ICC), the global Governing Body for cricket, relies on MCC to write and interpret the Laws of Cricket

 

13.    BEST PERFORMING STATE IN NORTHEASTERN REGION FOR E-PROCUREMENT

·         Tripura has been declared as the Best Performing State in the Northeastern Region in the implementation of e-procurement jointly by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology (MeitY)

·         Tripura was recognized for significant work in various sectors like SaubhagyaYojana, empowerment of panchayats, etc in the last 5 years.

·         The state has also bagged the title of the best performer in agriculture and panchayat self-empowerment.

 

14.    INDIA ELECTED TO UN STATISTICAL COMMISSION

·         India was elected to the United Nations (UN) Statistical Commissionand 3 other key subsidiary bodies of the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC).

·         India was elected unopposed (elected by acclamation) to the  Commission on Narcotic Drugs and Committee for Programme and Coordination.

·         India was also elected to the Programme Coordinating Board of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

·         The United Nations Statistical Commission, established in 1947, is the highest body of the global statistical system bringing together the Chief Statisticians from member states from around the world.

 

15.    HAL’S FIRST LCA TRAINER COMPLETES MAIDEN TEST-FLIGHT

·         The first series production Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas trainer (LT 5201) aircraft, manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), successfully completed its maiden flight, marking a major milestone in the LCA Tejasprogramme.

·         The 1st-ever Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) trainer (LT 5201) built to series production standards took off from their airfield and successfully completed a 35-minute flight test before landing.

 

16.    RBI 1ST BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY OF FY24

·         The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) 6-members Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) met on 3rd, 5th and 6th of April 2023 and released its first bi-monthly monetary policy statement for FY24 (Financial year 2023-2024).

·         The MPC has decided to keep the policy rates unchanged with the stance remain focused on the withdrawal of accommodation.

·         Policy Repo Rate-6.50%

·         Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) Rate-6.25%

·         Marginal Standing Facility (MSF)Rate-6.75%

·         Bank Rate-6.75%

·         Reverse Repo Rate-3.35%

·         Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR)-4.50%

·         Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR)-18%

·         India’s real gross domestic product (GDP) growth for FY24 was projected at 6.5 percent

·         Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation was projected at 5.2 percent in FY24

 

17.    WORLD HEALTH DAY 2023 – APRIL 7

·         The United Nations(UN) World Health Day is annually observed across the globe on 7th April to draw attention to a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world.

·         7th April 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948.

·         The theme of World Health Day 2023 is “Health for All”.
