1. ASSAMESE GAMOCHA GETS A GI TAG
●
‘Gamocha’, a symbol of Assamese culture and identity, has
been granted the Geographical
Indication (GI) tag
●
A GI is primarily a product that originates in a certain geographical
location, whether it is a manufactured product (handicrafts and industrial
goods), a natural product, or an agricultural product.
●
The “gamocha” is a handwoven
rectangular cotton cloth with red borders and various designs and motifs.
2.
INDIA & FINLAND SIGNED JOINT DECLARATION OF
INTENT ON MIGRATION AND MOBILITY
●
India and Finland have signed a joint declaration of Intent On
Migration and Mobility in order to reach a mutually beneficial agreement
on migration and mobility.
●
Ritva Koukku-Ronde is the Ambassador of Finland to India.
●
This will promote the mobility of students, academics, researchers,
business people, and professionals while also assisting in the fight against
irregular migration.

‘MOST EXPENSIVE CITY IN THE WORLD’ INDEX
●
According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Worldwide Cost of
Living (WCOL) Index, Singapore and New York(United States of America) has been
declared as joint most expensive cities in the world to live in.
●
New York has topped the rankings for the first time along with Singapore
which has topped the list 8 times in 10 years.
●
Tel Aviv of Israel which topped the list in 2021 has secured the 3rd
rank in the 2022 index.
●
Indian cities like Ahmedabad, Chennai and Bengaluru are among the Bottom
10 positions of the index, ranked 165th, 164th and 161st respectively.

GMR DELHI AIRPORT AWARDS 2022
●
The GMR Delhi Airport Awards 2022 awarded SpiceJet with the ‘Safety
Performer of the Year’. This award acknowledged its top performance among the
self-handling airlines and its efforts to reduce ground safety violations
significantly.
●
Recently, the airline was audited by the International Civil Aviation Organization
(ICAO), and its operations, safety processes, and systems were found to be
strong and at par with the global best practices and safety standards.

NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION DAY 2022 – DECEMBER

National Energy Conservation Day is annually celebrated across
India on December 14 to raise awareness on limiting energy loss and showcase
the achievements of India in energy efficiency and conservation.
●
The day is organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) which
operates under the Ministry of Power (MoP). It has been organising National
Energy Conservation Day since 1991.

GOI GRANTS GI TAGS TO 9 NEW PRODUCTS, RAISING
THE TOTAL TO 432; KERALA RECEIVES FIVE
●
The Geographical Indication (GI) Tag has been granted by the
Government of India (GoI) to 9 new products from different states, including
the Attappady Aattukombu Avara, Alibag White Onion,
Raktsey Karpo Apricot, Tandur Redgram, and Gamosa of Assam.
●
This brings the total number
of GI tags in India to 432, of which 401 are for products with Indian
origin and 31 are for products with foreign origin.
●
Geographic Indication (GI), is recognized by the World Trade Organization (WTO)

INDIA HOSTS 1ST G20 FINANCE AND
CENTRAL BANK DEPUTIES (FCBD) MEETING IN BENGALURU
●
The 1st G20 (Group of Twenty) Finance and Central Bank
Deputies (FCBD) Meeting, under the Indian Presidency, was held in Bengaluru,
Karnataka.
●
It was co-chaired by Secretary Ajay Seth, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), and Deputy
Governor Dr. Michael Patra,
Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
●
160 foreign delegates including Deputies from G20 member countries,
invitee countries, and International Organisations Participated in meeting

IEX BECOMES INDIA’S FIRST CARBON-NEUTRAL POWER
EXCHANGE
●
The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) has become India’s first carbon-neutral
Power Exchange, using market based tradable instruments to offset its carbon
emissions.
●
EKI Energy, global service provider in Energy, Carbon
Credit & Quality Management, was the sustainability partner of IEX by
providing advisory & consultancy services.
●
According to the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) 2022
report, global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions need to be reduced 45% by 2030 to
limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

IAF CONDUCTS ANNUAL AIR EXERCISE IN EASTERN
SECTOR
●
It involves practically all of its frontline fighter jets and other
assets stationed in the region, following the recent clash between Indian and
Chinese troops in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
●
The exercise will include the IAF’s frontline fighter jets, including
Sukhoi-30MKIs and Rafale jets, and many additional platforms deployed in the
region.
●
On 9th December 2022, the Indian and Chinese troops clashed along the
Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh.
●
Six Indian Army soldiers were injured in the clash, which involved
soldiers from both sides.

PASSPORT INDEX 2022 INDIA RANKED 66
●
According to Arton Capital’s “Passport Index 2022,” India is
placed 66 in the world’s strongest passport list, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is ranked 1st in the passport ranking
for 2022.
●
In 2nd rank were ten European countries: Germany, Sweden,
Finland, Luxembourg, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria,
Switzerland, along with South Korea.
●
The 3rd rank on the
list is the United States (US) passport, which grants visa-free access to 116
nations.
●
Indians with a ranking of 66 can only travel visa-free to 24
countries, require a visa on arrival for 48 countries, and require a visa for
126 countries.

SIPRI REPORT ONTOP GLOBAL ARMS MANUFACTURERS
●
Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), a Swedish think-tank,
released a report titled ‘Top
100 arms-producing and military services companies 2021’, which lists companies making arms, weapons, military planes
and equipment.
●
HAL has improved to 42nd position
in 2021 ranking, compared
to 43rd in 2020 and BEL has secured 63rd position,
showing improvement from 69th position in 2020.
