GOVT AMENDS AADHAAR RULES
·
The government has changed Aadhaar laws to state that
supporting documentation must be updated “at least once” by
Aadhaar holders after 10 years from the enrolment date.
·
The update would assure
the ‘continuous correctness’ of Aadhaar-related data in the
Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).
·
The Unique
Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has developed a new
feature of ‘update document’ on the myAadhaar portal and
mobile app to facilitate updating of documents.
2.
DIGILOCKER USERS CAN NOW DIGITALLY STORE HEALTH
RECORDS
·
DigiLocker, the authentic documents
exchange platform under the Ministry of Electronics & Information
Technology (MoEIT) has
successfully completed its 2nd level of integration with Ayushman
Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
·
DigiLocker’s secure
cloud-based storage platform can now be used as a health locker to store and
retrieve health documents such as vaccination records, doctor prescriptions,
lab tests, hospital discharge summaries, etc.
·
DigiLocker had
previously completed level 1 integration
with ABDM, in which the platform added an ABHA creation facility for its 13
crore users.

IBA’S EASE REFORMS INDEX FOR Q1FY23
·
The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) released a report on
‘EASE Reforms Index for Q1 FY 2022-23’ where EASE stands for ‘Enhanced Access
& Service Excellence’.
·
As per the report State Bank of India (SBI)
is the Best Bank in adopting reforms prescribed for Public Sector Banks (PSBs).
·
It is followed by Union
Bank of India (UBI) at 2nd position
and Bank of Baroda (BoB)
at 3rd.

VENKATRAMAN RAMAKRISHNAN AWARDED UK’S
ROYAL ORDER OF MERIT

Venkatraman
Ramakrishnan, a UK-based molecular biologist, is one of 6 appointments
made to the historic order by Queen
Elizabeth II before her demise in September 2022.
·
The Order of Merit was
founded by King Edward VII in 1902.It is a special honour conferred by the
Sovereign for individuals of great distinction in military services, science,
arts, literature, or cultural promotion.
·
Venkatraman
Ramakrishnan is an Indian-born American and British structural biologist (He
holds dual British and American nationality).

SLOVENIA’S FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT
·
Natasa Pirc Musar was elected as Slovenia’s first
female President after beating her conservative rival in the second round of
elections.
·
Out of 49.9 percent of
people who had voted in the election, Pirc Musar won almost 54 percent of
the vote, ahead of Logar, who got 46 percent.

The 8th ICC Men’s T20 (Twenty20) World Cup 2022 was hosted by
Australia

The host cities were Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart,

The Championship title was grabbed by England which was their
2nd title by defeating Pakistan with 5 wickets.

Sam Curran of England was named the Player of the Match
(Finals) and also the Player of the tournament.
·
Virat Kohli became the first player to end two ICC T20 World
Cup as the leading run-scorer in the tournament.

He ended 2022 edition with 296 runs in six matches at an
average of 98.66.

Surya kumar Yadav became the first Indian player to score

ASBC ASIAN ELITE BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS AMMAN 2022
·
India has bagged 12
medals (4 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze) at the Asian Boxing
Confederation (ASBC) Asian Elite Men And Women Boxing Championships
2022 held in Amman, Jordan
·
This marks the 3rd time
where the men and women fought in the same championship.
·
The Medal tally is topped
by Kazakhstan with 21 medals(6 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze) followed by
Uzbekistan with 13 medals(6 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze) in 2nd rank and India
with 12 medals in 3rd rank.
·
Out of the total 12
medals of India, women boxers contributed 7 medals(4 gold, 1 silver and 2
bronze).
·
India topped the medal
tally in women’s section followed by Kazakhstan.

COASTAL DEFENCE EXERCISE –
‘SEA VIGIL’
·
The third and
the biggest edition of
the ‘Pan-India’ Coastal Defence Exercise ‘Sea Vigil-22’ is
being conducted by Indian Navy
·
This exercise will be
undertaken along the entire 7516 km coastline, covering the Exclusive Economic
Zone (EEZ) of India.
·
Indian Navy, Coast
Guard, Customs and other maritime agencies will participate in Sea Vigil
exercise.
·
The exercise will also
be facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Ports Shipping
and Waterways, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Fisheries
Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Customsand other agencies of Centre
& State.

CCI TO HANDLE GST ANTI-PROFITEERING COMPLAINTS FROM
DECEMBER 1, 2022
·
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) will handle all
Goods & Services Tax (GST) anti-profiteering complaints from December 1,
2022, as the extended tenure of the National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA)
ends on November 30, 2022.
·
Under Section 171A of the GST law, the
NAA was established in November 2017 to monitor
unfair profiteering activities by registered suppliers.
·
CCI was constituted under the Competition Act, 2002 to
enforce the law.
·
It is composed of a Chairperson and six members appointed by
the Central Government.
·
The Commission is
entrusted with eliminating anti-competitive practices, safeguarding consumer
interests, and guaranteeing free trade.
·

According to the GST
Council’s resolution, the NAA will cease to function from December 1, 2022, and
all investigations based on consumer complaints will be handled by the Directorate General of Anti-Profiteering (DGAP),
which will then submit a report to CCI.

CELEBRATES TOKHU EMONG FESTIVAL

Nagaland Celebrates a 9-day
post-harvest festival of the Lotha Nagas, Tokhü Emong to spread
awareness about Nagaland’s bird diversity.

The term ‘Tokhü’ means feast (eating food or drinking)
and ‘Emong’ means halt on the appointed time.
·
The dates of Tokhü Emong bird count also coincide with
the BNHS Salim Ali Bird Count, a nationwide event.

Prospects 2022 is published to commemorate World Population Day 2022 (July 11,

most recent estimates, the world’s population might reach 8.5
billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050.

103MN PEOPLE FORCIBLY DISPLACED
WORLDWIDE: UNHCR REPORT
·
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
released its ‘2022
Mid-Year Trends’ report stating a global surge in the
number of forcibly displaced people by 13.6 million (15%) to 103
million in the H12022 (first half of 2022) as compared to the end of 2021.
·
The increase is driven
by the Ukraine-Russia war, and is more than the entire population of Belgium,
Burundi or Cuba.
·
As per the report, one
in every 77 people worldwide is forcibly displaced.
·
Globally, refugees
under UNHCR’s mandate and other people in need of international protection
increased by 6.3 million (~24%) in the H12022 i.e. from 25.7 million at
the end of 2021 to 32 million by mid-2022.
·
Turkey hosted 3.7
million refugees, the largest refugee population worldwide. It is
followed by Colombia (2.5 million) at 2nd, and Germany at
3rd (2.2 million).

BANK OF MAHARASHTRA TOPS LIST
OF PSBS IN LOAN GROWTH IN Q2FY23

As per analysis of the quarterly financial numbers published
by the Public Sector Banks (PSBs), the Pune (Maharashtra) headquartered Bank of
Maharashtra (BoM) emerged as the top performer among PSBs in terms of loan growth
in percentage terms during the Q2FY23.
·
It is followed by Union
Bank of India (UBI) with a 21.54% growth to Rs 7,52,469 crore,
and State Bank of India (SBI) at 3rd spot with
an 18.15% growth.
·
In absolute terms SBI’s
total loans were at Rs 25,47,390 crore which is about 17 times higher as
compared to Rs 1,48,216 crore of BoM.
·
BoM has a
highest Capital Adequacy Ratio at 16.71%.

“FRIENDS OF LIBERATION WAR” HONOUR FROM BANGLADESH
·
Sheikh Hasina, Prime minister (PM) of Bangladesh, conferred the ‘Friends of Liberation War’
honour on Edward Moore Kennedy ,former
United States (US),
Senator, posthumously in Dhaka (Bangladesh) for his contribution to the
liberation of Bangladesh.

Despite the US
government’s engagement in the 1971
Liberation War, Edward M Kennedy Sr. took a courageous stand
against Pakistan’s genocide against innocent Bengali people.

NEW MEMBERS OF IOA ATHLETES
COMMISSION
·
M C Mary Kom, PV Sindhu and Shiva Keshavan were
among 10 eminent sports persons elected unopposed as members of the Indian Olympic Association
(IOA) Athletes Commission at Nehru stadium, New Delhi.
·
Under the new constitution of IOA, the athletes commission
must have equal representation of male and female members.
·
The chairperson and vice-chairperson will be selected among
the 10 members in the commission.

MisuzuluSinqobilekaZwelithini (Misuzulu Zulu), was
formally enthroned as the new Zulu King, head of South Africa’s most
influential traditional monarchy, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in the coastal
city of Durban, South Africa.

Misuzulu Zulu takes
over the throne left by his father, Goodwill
Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, who passed away in March 2021.

In August 2022, The
traditional coronation took place for King Misuzulu at KwaKhangelamankengane
Palace in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa.

GHANA ASSUMES UN SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENCY

Ghana assumed the Presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council,
from November 2022 for
a two-year term.
·
Ghana was first given
the opportunity to serve on the UN Security Council from 1962 to 1963. It is
the third time Ghana is holding a non-permanent seat on the Council.

is Amb. Harold Agyeman
·
In June 2021, Ghana was
elected by the UN General to serve a two-year term on the Security Council from
January 2022 to December 2023.

PARIS 2024 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC MASCOTS UNVEILED

Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising
Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games unveiled the mascots for Paris
2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, “The Phryges”(pronounced fri-jee-uhs),
in Paris, France.
·
Phrygian caps are a type of hat that has become an enduring
symbol of freedom throughout French history.
·
Olympic Phryge and Paralympic Phryge complement each other
and make each other better with a motto of “Alone
we go faster, but together we go further”.
·
The mascot made in a red, white and blue colourway,
features the golden Paris 2024 logo emblazoned across their chests.
·
