US TREASURY REMOVES INDIA FROM ITS CURRENCY MONITORING
LIST

According to the report ‘Macroeconomic and
Foreign Exchange Policies of Major Trading Partners of the United States’ the
United States (US) Department of Treasury removed India along with Italy, Mexico,
Thailand and Vietnam from its Currency Monitoring List of major trading
partners that merit close attention to their currency practices and
macroeconomic policies.

India had been on the
list for the last two years.
·
This move followed the
US’ Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen visit
to New Delhi
·
Currency Monitoring List:-An
economy meeting two of the three criteria in the Trade Facilitation and Trade
Enforcement Act of 2015 is placed on the Watch List.
·
The country meeting all
three criteria are labelled as a ‘currency manipulator’.
·
China, Japan, Korea,
Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan are the seven economies that are a
part of the current monitoring list.
·
Switzerland has
exceeded the thresholds of all 3 criteria and it is being labelled as a
“Currency Manipulator.

WEST BENGAL GOVT’SLAKSHMIRBHANDAR BAGS THE SKOCH AWARD

West Bengal (WB)
has bagged the prestigious SKOCH
award in the women and child development category for its
popular ‘LakshmirBhandar‘
scheme.
·
The WB government
launched the scheme in August 2021 to provide financial support to a woman head
of a family, aged between 25-60 years.
·
The scheme provides Rs
500 per month to people in the general caste category and roughly Rs 1,000 per
month to those in the Scheduled Caste (SC)
and Scheduled Tribes (ST)
categories.

World Pneumonia Day 2022 focuses on “Championing the
fight to stop pneumonia“.
·
Every year, globally, pneumonia kills over 7 lakh children
under the age of 5, including over 1.53 lakh newborns, who are especially
vulnerable to infection.

At least one child dies
every 45 seconds from pneumonia each day.
