SRINAGAR BASED MIG-21 SQUADRON ‘SWORD
ARMS’ RETIRES FROM ITS FLYING OPERATIONS
·
Indian Air Force (IAF) retired
the No. 51 ‘swordarms’ MiG-21 fighter Squadron based
in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K)
·
It has been replaced by a MiG-29 squadron for air defence.
·
Currently, IAF has 3
MiG-21 Bison squadrons, which shall retire in the next 3 years.
·
The No. 51 Squadron or
‘Sword Arms’ was raised in Chandigarh on 1st February 1985
under the command of Wing Commander V.K. Chawla and then moved to Srinagar on 1st May
1986.
·
In 2019, Group Captain
(then Wing Commander) AbhinandanVarthaman was flying in same No. 51
Squadron during Balakot airstrike against pakistan.
·
The crest of the
squadron depicts the motto ‘VijayaPrakrama’ which
means ‘Valour for Victory’.

CBI LAUNCHES ‘OPERATION GARUDA’ AGAINST ILLICIT DRUG
TRAFFICKING
·
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched a
multi-phase ‘Operation Garuda against illicit drug
trafficking network, registering 127 new cases, arresting 175 people and
seizing huge quantities of narcotics drugs.
·
The operation aims to
degrade and dismantle drug networks with international linkages through the
rapid exchange of criminal intelligence on drug trafficking and coordinated law
enforcement actions across international jurisdictions through Interpol.
·
This global operation
was initiated in close coordination with Interpol and Narcotics Control Bureau
(NCB), for combating the smuggling of illicit drugs and psychotropic
substances, with a special focus on the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

Ashemimry is also one of the 12 VPs, she was elected along with
Anil Kumar and become the first Saudi woman to hold the leadership position in
Federation.

WORLD VEGETARIAN DAY 2022 – OCTOBER 1

The United Nations (UN)’s International Day of Older Persons (IDOP)
is annually observed across the globe on October 1 to honour the
contribution of older persons and to raise public awareness about the
opportunities and challenges presented to the ageing populations.
·
The theme for the International Day of Older Persons 2022
is “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World.”

PM LAUNCHES 1ST PHASE OF 5G SERVICES
·
Prime Minister, inaugurated the 6th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC)
2022 at NEW Delhi
·
The theme, of IMC “New digital Universe”
·
Healso launched the first phase of 5G services in
PragatiMaidan, New Delhi.
·
PM launched the 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) Core that
was indigenously designed and developed by the
Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) in IMC, 2022.
·
Bharti Airtel has launched 5G service in 8 cities including
Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Nagpur and Siliguri to
become the 1st company to launch 5G
services in India.

T-Mobile US was the 1st company in the world to launch a
commercially available 5G NR (New Radio) Standalone network.
·
In 2019, South Korea became the first country to
commercially launch nationwide 5G services

RBI’S BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY OF
2022-23
·
The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee
(MPC) met on September 28-30, 2022 , and released the RBI’s bi-monthly
monetary policy of FY23
·
It decreased India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
growth for FY23 to 7% from 7.2%
·
The GDP growth for Q1FY24 is projected at 7.2%.
·
Key short-term lending rate (repo) raised by 50 basis
points (bps) to 5.90 per cent; fourth consecutive hike
·
RBI has maintained consumer price index (CPI)inflation
forecast for FY23 at 6.7%

Grateful Recognition’ was given to VivekLall, who has done PhD in Aerospace
Engineering from Wichita State University in Kansas, United States.

Currently, he is
serving as US Technical Team Member to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO)
Science and Technology.

(F1) 2022 Singapore Grand Prix
(GP) raceat Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore.

Sergio Perez defeated Charles Leclerc (team Ferrari), who secured 2nd
rank in the race.

SUZLON ENERGY CMD TULSI TANTI PASSES AWAY

The Founder and Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of
Suzlon Energy Limited, Tulsi R
Tanti passed away at the age of 64 years due to cardiac
arrest.
·
He was regarded as the ‘Wind
Man of India”and was a stalwart of the Indian and global renewable energy
industry.
·
He was the Chairman of
the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA)

The United Nations (UN)’s World Habitat Day (WHD) is
annually observed across the globe on the first Monday of October to highlight
the importance of habitat for mankind and to remind people that they are
responsible for the habitat of future generations.

World Habitat Day 2022 is ‘’Mind the Gap. Leave No One and No
Place Behind’’.
·
World Habitat Day
2022 draws attention to the growing inequalities and vulnerabilities,
