1.
COMMITTEE SET UP TO MODERATE GAS PRICE
·
The
government of India(GoI) set up a Committee to review the formula to formalise
the pricing of gas produced by companies.
·
The
committee, chaired by Energy Expert Dr.Kirit Shantilal Parikh, a
former Member of the Planning Commission(GoI), will include members from the
fertiliser ministry, as well as gas producers and buyers.
·
It will suggest a “fair
price to the end consumer”.
·
The panel includes representatives of the
gas producers association such as ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) and
OIL (Oil India Limited).
·
It also has a member from private city gas
operators, state gas utility GAIL (India) Limited, a representative of Indian
Oil Corporation (IOC) and a member from the fertilizer ministry.
·
In 2014, the government decided to use
prices in gas surplus countries to arrive at a formula for locally produced
gas.
·
The local gas prices were linked to a
formula tied to global benchmarks, including Henry Hub, Alberta Gas, National
Balancing Point (NBP) and Russian Gas with a lag of one quarter.
·
The rates according to this formula were
subdued and at times lower than the cost of production till March 2022 but rose
sharply thereafter, reflecting the surge in global rates in the aftermath of
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

·
The 31st Vyas Samman Award was
conferred to renowned Hindi writer Dr.Asghar Wajahat
·
He
was selected for the prestigious award for his play ‘Mahabali’.
·
The
play, ‘Mahabali’ focused on Mughal emperor Akbar and poet Tulsidas.
·
The
Vyas Samman is given by K K Birla Foundation for outstanding literary work in Hindi authored by an Indian citizen published during the
last 10 years.
·
Ram
Vilas Sharma received the inaugural Vyas Samman in 1991 for his work ‘Bharat ke
Pracheen Bhasha Parivaraur Hindi’.
·
Professor Sharad Pagare was honoured with
30th Vyas Samman for his novel titled ‘Patliputraki Samragi’.

NEW SECRETARY GENERAL OF AIFF
·
The
All India Football Federation (AIFF) appointed Shaji Prabhakaran as its new Secretary
·
AIFFalso appointed Sunando
Dhar as the new Deputy Secretary General of
the sports body.
5.
DRDO: INDIA SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES SIX FLIGHT TESTS OF QRSAM
·
The
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and
the Indian
Army successfully completed 6 flight tests of the Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) system
from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) Chandipur, off the coast
of Odisha
·
The DRDO successfully
test fired an enhanced Range Pinaka Multi-Barrel
Rocket Launcher (MBRL) at Balasore and Pokhran,
Rajasthan.
·
The Pinaka MBRL is designed by
the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a laboratory of the
DRDO that is based in Pune, Maharashtra.
·
Munitions India Limited and Economic
Explosives Limited manufactured the system.
6.
MALAYSIAN CHESS MEET
·
Anishka Biyani, a 6-year-old Mumbai girl, won a gold medal in the Malaysian
Age Group Rapid Chess Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
·
Anishka, a first-grade student achieved
the feat in the Under-6 Open
category (girl’s category) with a score of 4 points out of a possible six to
clinch the title.
·
She was also qualified as one of the
best Under-7 players in
the All India FIDE (The
International Chess Federation) Rating Chess Tournament held in Yousufguda, Hyderabad,
Telangana.

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2022- SEPTEMBER 8
·
The
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s
International Literacy Day (ILD) is annually observed on September 8 across the
world to highlight the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and
societies and also to highlight the positive effects of a higher literacy rate.
·
The theme
for ILD 2022 is “Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces”

PM INAUGURATES ‘KARTAVYA PATH’
·
The
Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Kartavya Path’, a
redeveloped two kilometre stretch from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan
through Vijay Chowk in New Delhi (Delhi).
·
It
was earlier known as Rajpath (Kingsway), which was a ‘symbol of slavery’.
·
Now,
the name Kartavya Path symbolizes ‘public ownership and
empowerment’.
·
PM
also unveiled the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose under the canopy at
India Gate that during British rule had a statue of King George V.

INDIA RANKS 132 OUT OF 191 IN UNDP’S 2021 HUMAN
DEVELOPMENT INDEX
·
India
ranked 132nd among 191 countries and territories on the 2021 Human
Development Index (HDI).
·
It's
published by the Human Development Report Office for the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP).
·
Theme: The theme for Human Development
Report 2021-22 is Uncertain Times,
Unsettled Lives: Shaping our Future in a World in Transformation.
·
In
the 2020 report, India had ranked 131st among 189 countries and
territories.
·
India’s
latest HDI value is 0.633 which places it in the medium human
development category, as compared to its value of 0.645 in the 2020
report.
·
The
index has been topped by Switzerland with
0.962 HDI value.
·
It
is followed by Norway (0.961) at 2nd, and Iceland at
3rd (0.959).
·
Gross
National Income (GNI) per capita: India’s GNP per capita (2017 PPP) at $6,590.
·
India’s Life expectancy at birth: In 2021, India’s life expectancy at
birth was recorded at 67.2 years.
·
Sri
Lanka has been ranked 73rd in the Human Development Index.
·
With
this China is ranked 79th, Bhutan 127th, Bangladesh 129th, Nepal 143rd and
Pakistan 161st.

Gender Inequality Index: India has been ranked 122 on the
Gender Inequality Index.

ADMIRAL SUNIL LANBA RECEIVED MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL FROM
SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT

Admiral
Sunil Lanba (Retd), former Chief of Naval Staff(CNS), Indian Navy, was
conferred the prestigious Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) [Meritorious
Service Medal (Military)] by HalimahYacob,
the President of the Republic of Singapore at the Ministry of Defence,
Singapore.

The award is a recognition of his
outstanding contribution to the strong and long-standing bilateral defence
relationship between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy.
·
The Pinga tJasa Gemilang (Tentera) is a
decoration award given to the members of the Singapore Armed Forces for
distinguished performances.
·
Under special circumstances, The Medal is
awarded to a person for his outstanding service in the promotion of good
relations between the Singapore Armed Forces and the military force of his
country.

former President of the United States, Barack Obama’s “Our Great National
Parks”, a 5-part Netflix documentary series has won
the 74th
Primetime Emmy Awards for his outstanding narration (the
best narrator Emmy award).

The 5-part documentary series was about
some of the world’s national parks and their wildlife.
·
The documentary was nominated under the Outstanding

Nations (UN) General Assembly approved Volker Turk of
Austria to be the global body’s Human Rights Chief by UN
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Volker Turk replaces Veronica Michelle Bachelet
Jeria, a Chilean
politician who served at the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights (OHCHR) from 2018 to 2022.
·
Previously, Volker Turk served as the
Assistant High Commissioner for Protection at UN refugees, the UN Refugee
Agency (UNHCR), Geneva.

NEW PRIME MINISTER OF BURUNDI
·
Burundi
President Evariste Ndayishimiye appointed Gervais
Ndirakobuca as the Prime Minister (PM) of Burundi (East Africa)
·
Gervais
Ndirakobuca was given the name ‘Ndakugarika’ which
means ‘I will kill you’ for his rebellious command during the Burundian
Civil War that ended in 2005.
·
He
is known for his violent crackdown of the 2015 civil protest in Burundi.

INDIA’S FIRST NATIONAL ELECTRIC FREIGHT PLATFORM – ‘E-FAST’
·
National
Institute for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), in collaboration with World Resources
Institute (WRI) India launched India’s 1st electric
freight platform, e-FAST India (Electric Freight
Accelerator for Sustainable Transport – India) to enable road based electric
freight (e-freight) transition.
·
The e-FAST
India platform is supported by the World Economic Forum (WEF), CALSTART and RMI(Rocky
Mountain Institute) India for bringing different stakeholders together,
from across the freight ecosystem.
·
This
will help in strengthening partnerships and identify and support innovative
freight solutions.
·
The
e-FAST India platform witnessed participation from major automobile industry
players, logistics companies, development banks and fin-tech companies.
·
India
is the 3rd largest truck market, after China
and the United States (US).

US MILITARY SUCCESSFULLY TESTS MINUTEMAN III INTERCONTINENTAL
BALLISTIC MISSILE
·
The
Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen launched an unarmed LGM-30G
Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) equipped
with three test re-entry vehicles, armed with nuclear warheads from the
Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
·
This is the second test by
the United States (US) in less than a month after the launch of Minuteman III
ICBM in August 2022 which was postponed twice.

HS) topped the

QUEEN ELIZABETH II, PASSES AWAY
·
On
8th September 2022, Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom’s (UKs) or
Britain’s longest-serving monarch, passed away at Balmoral Castle in Scotland
at 96
years after reigning for 70 years.
·
Elizabeth II became Queen on the death of
her father King George VI on 6th February 1952.
·
Her reign of 70 years was 7 years longer than that of
Queen Victoria and thus she became the longest reigning queen of the UK.
·
With the death of Queen Elizebeth, her son Prince
Charles has become king of
the United Kingdom (UK) and 14 other colonies.
·
The new King, Prince Charles (73 years)
will officially be known as King Charles III and is
