INDIA’S
FLOW CHEMISTRY TECHNOLOGY HUB SET UP AT HYDERABAD
·
The Government of
Telangana in collaboration with the pharmaceuticals majors Dr. Reddy’s
Laboratory and Laurus Labs along with academia has set up India’s
first-of-its-kind Flow Chemistry Technology Hub (FCT Hub) at Dr. Reddy’s
Institute of Life Sciences (DRILS) Hyderabad, Telangana.

Objective is To
incorporate and promote efficient and sustainable technologies in the
pharmaceutical sector.
2.
SKILL
MINISTRY LAUNCHES ISRO TECHNICAL TRAINING PROGRAMME
·
The Ministry of Skill
Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signs a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to upskill the
technical staff at the Department of Space (DoS) in ISRO. It will be valid for
a period of 5 years.
·
Under this, more than
4000 ISRO technical employees will be trained in the programme.

FAO’S
GLOBAL REPORT ON FOOD CRISES 2022
·
Global Report titled
“Global Report on Food Crises 2022: Joint analysis for better decisions” (GRFC
2022), jointly produced FAO ,the World Food Programme (WFP), and the European
Union (EU), states that around 193
million people in 53 countries suffered
acute food insecurity in 2021 due to conflict, weather extremes, and the
economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

This represents an
increase of around 40 million people compared to 2020, reported in GRFC
2021.

HIGHLIGHTS
OF RBI’S MONETARY POLICY COMMITTEE OFF-CYCLE MEETING
·
The meeting saw the
rise in policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) by 40
basis points to 4.40% with immediate effect, amid rising inflationary pressures
in the economy.
·
Consequently, the
Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) rate stands adjusted to 4.15% and the Marginal
Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 4.65%.
·
Cash Reserve Ratio
(CRR) hiked by 50 bps to 4.5% w.e.f. May 21, 2022.
·
This would drain Rs
87,000 crore of liquidity from the banking system.

ISRO
PLANS MISSION TO VENUS BY DECEMBER 2024
·
At the inaugural
session of the National Meet on Venus Science, Chairman of the Indian Space
Research Organisation (ISRO), S. Somnath, announced a Mission to Venus, the
hottest planet in the solar system, by December 2024
·
ISRO will also study
active volcanism, lightning, craters, the presence of oxygen, Venus’ geology,
and other topics as part of this mission. The next similar window would be
available in 2031.

AYUSHMAN
BHARAT DIWAS 2022 – APRIL 30
·
Ayushman Bharat Diwas
is annually observed across India on 30th April as a part of the Gram Swaraj
Abhiyan.
·
The Ayushman Bharat
(“Healthy India”) Yojana is a national initiative launched by Prime Minister
(PM) of India Narendra Modi as a part of the National Health Policy 2017 with
the vision to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
·
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi launched PM-JAY, the largest health assurance scheme in the world fully
financed by the government, on 23rd September 2018 in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
·
This aims to provide
health cover of Rs 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care
hospitalization to over 10.74 crores of poor and vulnerable families
(approximately 50 crore beneficiaries) that form the bottom 40% of the Indian
population.

INDIA’S
SOLAR INSTALLATIONS CROSSED A RECORD 10 GW CAPACITY IN 2021
·
India installed a
record 10 GW of new solar capacity in 2021, a big jump of 210% year-over-year
(YoY) compared to 3.2 GW installed in 2020, according to Mercom India
Research’s recently released Q4 & Annual India Solar Market Update report.
·
The cumulative
installed solar capacity stood at 49.3 GW. The country also has a development
pipeline of over 53 GW.
·
In 2021, Rajasthan
added the highest utility-scale solar capacity with 4.5 GW, followed by Gujarat
with 1.2 GW and Uttar Pradesh with 885 MW. The top three states in 2021
contributed to around 79% of the installations in 2021.
·
India’s installed
renewable energy capacity, including large hydro projects, stood at 150.9 GW,
accounting for a 38.4% share in the overall power mix at the end of December
2021.

PM
NARENDRA MODI VISIT TO GERMANY, DENMARK AND FRANCE
·
In the first leg of his
visit, he visited Germany, and held bilateral talks with Olaf Scholz, Federal
Chancellor of Germany in Berlin to enhance and intensify cooperation in a broad
range of areas.
·
He visited Denmark at
the invitation of its PM Ms.Mette Frederiksen. There he participated in the 2nd
India-Nordic Summit which was hosted by Denmark.
·
PM Narendra Modi paid a
brief visit in Paris to meet Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of France as both
nations are celebrating 75 years of their diplomatic relations in 2022.

BECOMES INDIA’S LARGEST FMCG COMPANY SURPASSING HUL
·
Adani Wilmar Limited
(AWL) became the largest Fast Moving Consumer Goods Company (FMCG) in India
beating Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL)
·
AWL has reported the
total operational revenue of Rs 54,214 crore in the Financial Year 2022 whereas
HUL reported the revenue of Rs 51,468 crore in the Financial Year (FY) 2021-22.
·
Adani
Wilmar Ltd (AWL) announced the acquisition of
several brands, including the renowned ‘Kohinoor’ brand from McCormick
Switzerland GMBH, ZÃœRICH, Switzerland to strengthen its leadership in the food
business.
·
Adani Wilmar, a 50:50
joint venture between business conglomerate Adani Group and Singapore-based
Wilmar, recently got listed on the stock exchange after raising Rs 3,600 crore
through an Initial Public Offer (IPO).

The Des Moines-based
World Food Prize Foundation has conferred the World Food Prize 2022 to National
Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Cynthia Rosenzweig, an American
agronomist and climatologist, in recognition of her modelling of the climate
crisis’ impact on food production
·
World Food Prize was
founded by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate(1970), Norman E Borlaug in 1986.
·
The inaugural world
Food Prize was presented to M S Swaminathan of India in 1987.
·
According to the World
Food Prize Foundation, the World Food Prize is a prestigious International
award conceived as the “Nobel Prize for
Food and Agriculture”.
