1.     PAKISTAN TO REMAIN ON ‘GREY LIST’ OF GLOBAL TERROR FINANCING WATCHDOG FATF

      Global terror financing watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF) retained Pakistan in the ‘Grey List’.

      It was announced at the fifth Plenary of the FATF under the German Presidency of Dr. Marcus Pleyer, that took place on 19-21 October.

      FATF also added Jordan, Mali and Turkey in its grey list.

      Grey list is also called ‘increased monitoring list’. Those countries who have failed to curb issues like money laundering and terror financing in their countries added in this category.

2.     HIGHLIGHTS OF EAM S JAISHANKAR’S VISIT TO ISRAEL

      India and Israel agreed to restart both the nations’ Free Trade negotiations from November 2021 and conclude by June 2022.

      Every year the Indian Army commemorates September 23 as the Haifa Day to pay respects to the three brave Indian Cavalry Regiments – Mysore, Hyderabad and Jodhpur Lancers – which helped to liberate Haifa.

      EAM S. Jaishankar visited Israel’s Ovda Airbase to meet the Indian contingent participating in the biennial exercise Blue Flag 2021, which involves Air Force missions from 8 countries, to share knowledge and combat experience to improve operational capabilities.

3.     1ST SATYAJIT RAY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

      American Director Martin Scorsese & Hungarian Director Istvan Szabo will be honoured with the first-ever Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2021) which is to be held from 20th to 28th November 2021 in Goa.

      The BRICS Countries are the focus countries of the 52nd IFFI.

 

4. SANDRA MASON ELECTED AS THE 1ST EVER PRESIDENT OF BARBADOS

      The Governor-General of Barbados, Dame Sandra Prunella Mason, has been elected as the first-ever President of Barbados, a Caribbean island.

      She will replace Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II as the new head of Barbados.

      Barbados will remove the Queen as its Head of state and gain the status of a republic.

      At present, Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the State of 15 Commonwealth countries (including Barbados) in addition to the United Kingdom(UK).

 

5.SOUTH KOREA LAUNCHED ITS FIRST DOMESTICALLY-DEVELOPED SPACE ROCKET – “NURI”

      The Nuri rocket, the first homegrown space rocket at the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Korea

      South Korea becomes the 10th nation to send a satellite into space on its own technology.

 

6. FIFA RANKING 2021: INDIA RISE ONE SPOT TO 106TH

      India has ranked 106th in the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) Rankings 2021

      Under the FIFA Rankings, Belgium is at 1st position. Brazil holds 2nd position, France holds 3rd position.

 

7. BOOK TITLED “ACTUALLY… I MET THEM: A MEMOIR”

      A book titled ‘Actually…I Met Them: A Memoir‘ authored by Indian poet-lyricist and director Gulzar(original name Sampooran Singh Kalra).

      Sampooran Singh Kalra is professionally known as ‘Gulzar’ or ‘Gulzar Saab’.
