1. 92% OF TARGET ACHIEVED IN 1ST PHASE OF PMAY-G

      The Ministry of Rural Development has stated that 92% of targets have been completed in the 1st Phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme i.e from 2016-17 to 2018-19.

      A Target of 1 Crore houses was set for completion in the 1st phase of the Scheme (from 2016-17 to 2018-19).

      The minimum size of a house under the scheme is 25 Square metre (increased from 20 Sq. Mt)

 

2.TRIBAL HEALTH COLLABORATIVE – ‘ANAMAYA’

      Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare along with Arjun Munda, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs virtually launched ‘Anamaya’, the Tribal Health Collaborative.

      Piramal Foundation & Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

 

3.MARITIME EXERCISE ‘LA PEROUSE’ HELD IN INDIAN OCEAN

      Navies of India & Three other QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) Countries namely US, Japan and Australia participated in the Multilateral French Maritime Exercise ‘La Perouse’.

      The Exercise took place in the Eastern Indian Ocean Region and was led by the French Navy.

 

4. MEETING OF BRICS FM & CENTRAL BANK GOVERNORS

      India hosted a 2021 Meeting of BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors virtually from New Delhi. 

      Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Shaktikanta Das Chaired this meeting.

      India held the Chairmanship of BRICS for 2021 under the theme “BRICS@15: Intra BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus “and also hosted the 13th BRICS Summit 2021.

      BRICS is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2021.

 

5. FIRST FULLY ELECTRIFIED INDIAN RAILWAYS ZONE

      The electrification of the West Central Railways(WCR) was completed and WCR became the first fully electrified Indian railway zone.

      WCR became the 1st of the 18 railway zones to achieve 100% electrification.

      The government ensures that the entire rail network will be fully electrified by December 2023 and the entire rail network will run on renewable energy by 2030.

 

6.INDIA’S MILITARY FARMS CLOSED AFTER 132 YEARS OF SERVICE

      India’s Military farms that supplied hygienic cow milk to the armed forces continuously for the last 132 years with 25,000 MT of hay yearly was formally closed in April 2021.

      This has been recommended for years, as they can enhance combat capability and rebalance defence expenditure of the armed forces.

      This is also caused by the open market milk procurement & corruption in the farms.

      The 1st military farm was set-up under British-India, on February 1, 1889 at Allahabad.

 

7.RBI EXTENDED RTGS AND NEFT MONEY TRANSFER FACILITIES

      RBI extended the membership of Centralised Payment Systems (CPSs) facilities such as National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) to non-bank payment system operators.

      Until now, only banks were allowed to use RTGS and NEFT payments facilities.

              RBI HAS DOUBLED THE PAYMENTS BANK’S DEPOSIT LIMIT TO RS. 2 LAKHS

      RBI increased the existing maximum end of day balance (limit of funds that the account holders can keep until the end of the day) per customer of payment banks from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh to support MSMEs, unorganised entities, other small businesses and to improve the interoperability of Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) to full-KYC (Know Your Customer).

              RBI HAS INCREASED THE PSL LOAN LIMITS

      RBI has enhanced the loan limits under Priority Sector Lending(PSL) for banks’ lending against Negotiable Warehouse Receipts (NWRs) / electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipts (eNWRs) from 50 lakhs to 75 lakhs per borrower.

      RBI has mandated all scheduled commercial banks and foreign banks to set aside 40% of their Adjusted Net Bank Credit (ANDC) for lending to these sectors.

      Regional rural banks, co-operative banks and small finance banks have to allocate 75% of ANDC to PSL.

 

8.OUHOUMOUDOU MAHAMADOU APPOINTED AS NEW PM OF NIGER

      Newly elected President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, appointed Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou, former Minister & the Chief of Staff of former President Mahamadou Issoufou as the New PM of his Cabinet.

      Niger is a land-locked country in West Africa, named after one of Africa’s longest rivers, ‘Niger River’.

 

9.400TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF GURU TEGH BAHADUR JI

      PM Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the High-Level Committee to commemorate the 400th Birth Anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur through video conferencing.

      The High Level Committee was constituted by the Centre on 24th October last year, to approve policies, plans and programs related to the commemoration of the birth anniversary.

      It has 70 members including the Prime Minister as Chairman.

 

10. INDIA CONTRIBUTES USD 500,000 TO UN COUNTER-TERRORISM FUND

      T.S. Tirumurti, India’s Permanent Secretary to the United Nations (UN) stated that India has contributed an additional USD 500, 000 (~ INR 3.7 Crores) to the United Nations Trust Fund for Counter-Terrorism. With this, India’s total contribution to the UN Counter-Terrorism fund stands at around USD 1.05 Million.

      The UN Trust Fund for Counter-Terrorism was established by the Secretary-General in 2009 under DPA (Department of Political Affairs).

 

11. MUKTIJODDHA SCHOLARSHIP TO 2000 BANGLADESHI STUDENTS

      The Government of India announced scholarships to 2000 Bangladeshi students, the direct descendants of Muktijoddha or Liberation War-fighters of Bangladesh under the new Muktijoddha Scholarship scheme.

 

12. ARWU RANKING 2020

      According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2020 (ARWU 2020 also known as Shanghai Ranking) released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bangalore) was ranked as the best Higher Education Institute in India, while Calcutta University was ranked as the best University in India.

      At the Global Level, Harvard University (USA) was ranked as the Best University followed by Stanford University (USA) & the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom).

 

13. HIGHEST CONTRIBUTION THROUGH SMALL SAVINGS SCHEMES

 

      National Savings Institute under the Ministry of Finance, announced West Bengal as the largest contributor to the Small Savings Schemes with Rs. 90,000 crore contribution during 2017-18.

      Over the years, West Bengal is the highest contributor to the schemes, with 12-15% of India’s total contribution.

      It is followed by Uttar Pradesh, with a gross collection of Rs 69,660.70 in 2017-18.

      Small Savings Schemes are Central govt. Schemes, where funds are collected through the National Small Savings Fund (NSSF) providing a Higher rate of Interest & Tax benefits.

 

14.1ST INDIAN WOMAN SAILOR TO QUALIFY FOR OLYMPICS

      Nethra Kumanan became the 1st Indian woman sailor to qualify for the Olympics under the laser radial category.

      She will be the 10th Indian to qualify for a sailing event in the Olympics.

      She secured the place through her performance at the Mussanah Open Championship, a qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
