‘HAND-IN-HAND
2019’

The 8th edition of the joint training exercise between
India and China named “HAND-IN-HAND 2019” for the year 2019 is to be held in
Umroi, Meghalaya.
ü
Theme: The theme for the exercise will be
’counter-terrorism under United Nations mandate‘.
2. Mission Indradhanush 2.0
launched
ü
Govt. launched nationwide vaccination drive under
Intensified Mission Indradhanush 2.0 (IMI-2.0) across the country. This
flagship program aims to immunize children under 2 years of age and pregnant
women against 8 vaccine preventable diseases such as diphtheria, whooping
cough, tetanus, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, measles, meningitis and Hepatitis
B.

Target: The IMI’s vaccination driver which will be
conducted from December 2019- March 2020,aims to achieve full immunization coverage
target in 272 districts.
3. President Gotabaya
Rajapaksa visited India
ü
The president of Sri Lanka Shri Gotabaya Rajapaksa
paid a 3-day official visit to India. It is to be noted that this was his first
overseas visit after becoming President.Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced
to offer $450 million Line of Credit (LoC) to Sri Lanka.
4. ‘India Corruption Survey
2019’

‘India Corruption Survey 2019’ by independent agencies
Transparency International India (TII) and Local Circles, was released. As per
the report the Corruption rate in India fell by 10% in 2019.
ü
The percentage of people who had paid bribes fell from
58% in 2018 to 51% in 2019.Rajasthan ranked as the most corrupt state having
78% citizens indulged in bribery. Rajasthan was followed by Bihar and Jharkhand
in the second and third place respectively.

out of 180 countries
5. IFC to invest $ 200
million in Mahindra finance

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a unit of
the World Bank Group, has anchored an investment round of $ 200 million in
Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited (MMFSL), a Rural NBFC (Non
Banking Financial Company) with the objective to create a ‘pool’ specifically for
financing MSMEs in low income states.
6. 12th Shakti Bhatt First
Book prize 2019

English author Tony Joseph based in New Delhi has won
the prestigious 12th ‘Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize 2019’ for his 2018 book,
‘Early Indians: The Story of Our Ancestors and Where We Came From’ published by
Juggernaut Books.
7. Prithiviraj Roopan
elected as the President of Mauritius

Prithiviraj Roopun was the former Minister of Arts and
Culture of Mauritius. He preceded Ammenah Gurib-Fakim who resigned in March
2018.
8. Ballon d’Or award 2019
ü
Argentina’s professional football player Lionel
Messi won his record 6th Ballon d’Or
award. The award was given after Messi scored 54 times for his Barcelona club.Prior
to that, Messi and Portuguese football player Christiano Ronaldo equally had 5
Ballon d’Or awards under their name.

Megan Rapinoe(American) wins women’s Ballon d’Or.
9. Steve Smith become the
fastest man to score 7000 test runs
ü
Steven Smith Australian cricketer became the fastest
man to score 7000 runs in test matches by breaking a 73-year old record which
was held by English cricketer Wally Hammond in the year 1946. Steve also became
Australia’s highest scorer by beating Donald Bradman.
10. 21st Asian Archery
Championship 2019
ü
The 21st Asian Archery Championship for the year 2019
was held in Bangkok, Thailand.India secured the second position in the overall
medal tally while South Korea topped the list.

India’s medal count: India obtained 1 gold, 2 silver
and 4 bronze medals totalling the medal count to 7.
ü
Indian archers Abishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam
won India’s only gold in the compound mixed pair event.
11. International Day of
Persons with Disabilities-December 3,2019

The theme of the day was ‘Promoting the participation
of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030
Development Agenda’.
12. India’s 1st National
maritime heritage museum
ü
India & Portugal has decided to set up India’s 1st
National Maritime Heritage Museum at the ancient Indian site of Lothal in
Gujarat with the aim to boost the underwater or marine archaeology. The Museum
will showcase salvaged material from shipwreck sites in the Indian Ocean
waters.
13. India stands 73rd in UNCTAD’s B2C e-commerce Index 2019

According to the “Business-to-Consumer (B2C)
E-commerce Index 2019” released by
UNCTAD’s (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), India has moved
seven places up and ranked 73rd out of
152 countries index that measures an economy’s preparedness to support online
shopping with the Index score of 57.0. For the 2nd consecutive year in a row,
the Netherlands leads the Index with the score of 96.4.
14. World malaria report 2019

WHO released a report titled “World malaria report
2019”.
ü
As per the report, India was one of the only two
countries of the 11 high- burden- to- high -impact (HBHI) countries. India
reported 2.6million fewer cases with 28% reduction in malaria cases. The
country next to India was Uganda. It reported 1.5million fewer cases.
15. ET Lifetime Achievement
Award for Public Service 2019

Arun Jaitley former Finance Minister of India was
bestowed with the Economic Times (ET) Lifetime Achievement award for Public
Service 2019. The award was received by Arun Jaitley’s spouse Sangeeta Jaitley.
16. ‘Person of the Year’ by
PETA
ü
Joaquin Rafael Phoenix, American actor from California
has been bestowed with the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)
‘Person of the Year’ Award 2019.
17. Sundar Pichai named as
the CEO of Alphabet
ü
Sundar Pichai, current CEO of Google has been made the
CEO of Alphabet, the parent organization of Google, followed by the resignation
of Larry Page and Sergey Brin, CEO and President of Alphabet and the founders
of Google.
18. Upender Singh Rawat has
been appointed as the Indian Ambassador to the Republic of Costa Rica
19. MCC’s Spirit of Cricket
award 2019

New Zealand cricket team was awarded with 2019
Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCCs) Christopher Martin-Jenkins Spirit of Cricket
award for the sportsmanship it showed during the finals of the ICC
(International Cricket Council) World Cup at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London,
England.
