1. DEFENCE MINISTRY SET TO HAVE THREE NEW TRI-SERVICE AGENCIES
Ministry of Defence is expecting to raise a Defence Cyber Agency by May to tackle non-civilian cyber issues arise from China and pakistan, including safeguarding critical infrastructure. Rear Admiral Mohit Gupta, Senior Navy officer will be the first head of this agency, headquartered in New Delhi.
As per the clearance given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi  in 2018, two more agencies are under construction namely, Defence Space Agency and Special Operations Division.
Aware of cyber power is a risky element of India’s comprehensive deterrence capability, the base has set up a task force headed by Lt. Gen. Davinder Kumar (Retired) to suggest a road map for cyber deterrence in the armed forces.

2. BHARTI AXA TIES UP WITH WISHFIN TO OFFER POLICIES VIA WHATSAPP
Bharti AXA General Insurance, a private non-life insurer, has tied up with financial marketplace Wishfin’s insurance arm Wishpolicy, to offer two-wheeler insurance to customers via WhatsApp.
This service option is an instant and additional customer service option for policyholders, apart from Bharti AXA General Insurance’s multiple channels, including its network of branches, customer care and contact centre, dynamic portal, and intelligent chatbot.


3. INDIA RATINGS & RESEARCH LOWERS GROWTH FORECAST FOR 2019-20 TO 7.3%
India Ratings & Research (A Fitch Group Company) has lowered the country’s growth forecast for the current fiscal to 7.3%, from the earlier projection of 7.5 %. The agency has listed three key reasons for lowering its projection.
  • Prediction of lower-than-normal monsoon for 2019 and the continued agrarian distress.
  • The loss of momentum in the industrial output growth, especially manufacturing and electricity, is likely to hurt growth.
  • The slow progress in cases referred to the National Company Law Tribunal under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, for resolution of the non-performing assets of the banking sector becoming a long-drawn-out process.

4. ISSF RIFLE/PISTOL WORLD CUP 2019
The 2019 ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup was held in Beijing, China from 21 to 29 April. This event was the annual edition of the ISSF World Cup in the Olympic Shooting events and governed by International Shooting Sports Federation.
This World Cup series was also the qualification tournaments for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic. India won 4 medals which include 3 gold and 1 silver, finished first in the tournament.

5. ASIAN WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019
The Asian Weightlifting Championships 2019 were held in Ningbo, China from April 20 to April 28, 2019. This was the 48th edition of men’s and 29th edition of women’s championship.
There were 214 athletes from 27 nations participated in the tournament. India won 5 medals which include 3 silver and 2 bronze medals, finished tenth place in the tournament.
Top 5 Countries in Medal tally are China followed by North Korea, Iran, South Korea and Vietnam.

6. INDIANS WIN 1 SILVER, 2 BRONZE AT ASIAN ROAD PARA-CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019
Asian Road Para-Cycling Championships 2019 was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from April 23 to April 28, 2019, and a total of 28 countries took part. Indian para cyclists won a silver and two bronze medals.
Divij Shah has clinched his third consecutive silver medal in the C5 category. Gurlal Singh, Asian Para Games bronze medallist, became the only Indian cyclist (able-bodied or otherwise) to win a medal at the Asian Games level grabbed a bronze in the C4 section.
Sudhakar Marathe, a Hand cyclist from Maharashtra has claimed a bronze for India in H5 category.

7. G SATHIYAN BECOMES FIRST INDIAN TO BREAK INTO TOP-25 OF ITTF RANKINGS7
India’s G Sathiyan has become the first Indian to break into the top-25 of world rankings in Table Tennis. Sathiyan rose four spots to be 24th in the latest ITTF rankings, following his impressive sixth place finish in the Asia Cup in Yokohama.
India’s number one female player, Manika Batra, slipped three spots to be 59th. Sharath Kamal Achanta is the only other Indian beside him in the top 50 position who is now 46th place in the list.

8. JAIRAM RAMESH PENS BIOGRAPHY OF DIPLOMAT-POLITICIAN V K KRISHNA MENON TITLED “CHEQUERED BRILLIANCE: THE MANY LIVES OF V K KRISHNA MENON”
A biography of Indian nationalist, diplomat, and politician V K Krishna Menon, titled “Chequered Brilliance: The Many Lives of V K Krishna Menon” has been written by Former union minister and writer Jairam Ramesh.This book will be released in first quarter of 2020.
The book will narrate Menon’s early life,moving through his agitational career in the UK for a quarter of a century.
