WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY: 15
JUNE
i.
The 15th of June every year marks the United Nations internationally recognised
day – World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
ii.
The day came about as a result of UN resolution 66/127.The day aims to focus
global attention on the problem of physical, emotional, and financial abuse of
elders.
iii.
The theme for 2018 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is “Moving from Awareness to
Action through a Human Rights based approach”.

WORLD DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND
DROUGHT: JUNE 17
i.
The World Day to Combat Desertification is being celebrated worldwide on 17th
June.
ii.
World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year to
promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification.
iii.
Theme of WDCD 2018 is “Land has true value – invest in “.
3.
FOURTH GOVERNING COUNCIL MEETING OF
NITI AAYOG CONCLUDES
i.
The fourth meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog was held under the
chairmanship of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati
Bhavan.
ii.
It was attended by 23 Chief Ministers and the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman
& Nicobar Islands, apart from Union Ministers, who are ex-officio members
and special invitees.
iii.
At the end of the day-long deliberations, the Prime Minister highlighted the
importance of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog as a platform to inspire
cooperative federalism.
4.
U.S. PIPS INDIA AS TOP GREENFIELD FDI
DESTINATION
i.
The U.S. has surpassed India to become the top destination for greenfield FDI
investment in 2017, says a report.
ii.
The number of greenfield FDI projects in India during the year fell sharply by
21% to 637, said the fDi Report 2018 compiled by FDI Intelligence.
iii.
India had maintained the numero uno slot in greenfield FDI investment in 2015
and 2016.

ROGER FEDERER WINS MERCEDES CUP
i.
Roger Federer beat Milos Raonic to win the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, his first
event for two and a half months.
ii.
The Swiss had not played since the Miami Open in March, but the win in Germany
gives him a 98th Tour title.
iii.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion had already secured his return to number one in
the world rankings with victory over Nick Kyrgios in the semi-final.
