1.
RAJNATH TO INAUGURATE CONFERENCE ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT
i.
Rajnath Singh has inaugurated a two-day national level conference on “Capacity
Building of SDRF-2017”.
ii.
The conference was organised by the National Disaster Response Force. The
meeting would hold discussions to develop a synergy and to strengthen the
response capabilities of State Disaster Response Forces.
iii.
During the conference, various agenda points like streamlining the training
process of SDRFs and conducting it in a planned and coordinated manner would be
discussed.
iv.
Some more points would also be discussed in the meetings like integrations of
operational efforts between SDRF and NDRF, requirement and creation of training
infrastructure in each state, creation of a pool of instructors, sharing of
best practices, improving response time by SDRF’s.
2.
SHRI J P NADDA LAUNCHES SKILL FOR LIFE SAVE A LIFE
i.
Union Government has launched a Skill for Life, Save a Life Initiative. Its aim
is to promote skill development in the health sector.
ii.
Under the initiative, various courses will be initiated targeting specific
competencies for healthcare professionals as well as for general public.
iii.
Its objective is to upscale the quantity and quality of trained professionals
in the healthcare system.
iv.
The Ministry has initiated the
initiative by launching First Responder course for professionals as well as
general public that will be conducted in Central and State government training
institutes.
i.
Union Cabinet has approved the proposed Memorandum of Understanding between
Export-Import Bank of India and Export-Import Bank of Korea for export credit
of USD 9 billion.
ii.
Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval to the Agreement between
Cyprus and India on Merchant Shipping.
iii.
Union Cabinet has approved the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding between
Securities and Exchange Board of India and Securities and Exchange
Organization, Iran in relation to mutual cooperation on matters pertaining to
securities markets.
iv.
Union cabinet has given its approval for signing and subsequent ratification of
the Agreement on Transfer of sentenced persons between India and Somalia.
v.
Cabinet has approved the initial public offer of Indian Renewable Energy
Development Agency, enabling it to mobilise funds for the clean energy sector.
4.
INDIA, LANKA SIGN PACT FOR $318 MILLION LINE OF CREDIT
i.
India has signed an agreement with Sri Lanka to provide fresh assistance of USD
318 million line of credit for the development of the railway sector in the
country.
ii.
India, Sri Lanka exchanged 4 agreements to ensure peace and stability in the
region. The agreement was signed in Colombo, the capital city of the island
nation.
iii.
These credit facilities have been utilised to improve the Northern and Southern
railway lines and for the procurement of rolling stocks for the Sri Lanka
Railways.
iv.
The Sri Lanka Railways will implement the projects under the supervision of
Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
v.
The Indian development assistance to Sri Lanka has mainly focused on
improvement of infrastructure, healthcare, education, livelihood development
and capacity building.

K G KARMAKAR, GAURI SHANKAR APPOINTED AS DIRECTORS OF IPPB
i.
Gauri Shankar and K G Karmakar are
appointed as Independent Directors of India Post Payments Bank.
ii.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved their appointment to the
post on the board of directors of the bank for a period of 3 year. The order is
issued by Department of Personnel and Training.
iii.
The IPPB has been incorporated as a public sector bank under the Department of
Posts with 100% equity of the government of India.
6.
SHER BAHADUR DEUBA ELECTED NEPAL’S PRIME MINISTER FOR 4TH TIME
i.
Sher Bahadur Deuba has elected PM of the Nepal. This will be Deuba’s 4th stint
as PM of the Himalayan country.
ii.
The Nepali Congress leader has become the 40th Prime Minister of Nepal. Deuba
served as the PM from 1995 to 1997, from 2001 to 2002, and from 2004 to 200

PM OF INDIA LEAVES FOR KAZAKHSTAN TO ATTEND SCO SUMMIT
i.
PM Narendra Modi left for Kazakhstan, where he will attend the summit of the
Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and meet some foreign leaders, including
Chinese President Xi Jinping.
ii.
At the summit in Astana, Pakistan and India will become full members of the
grouping, which at present comprises China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Kazakhstan,
Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Ahead of his 2-day visit, PM Modi stated that he
looked forward to deepening engagement with the SCO countries.
iii.
On the evening of June 9, he will also attend the inauguration of the Astana
Expo with the theme of “Future Energy”.

ROHAN BOPANNA WINS FRENCH OPEN MIXED DOUBLES TITLE TO CLINCH MAIDEN GRAND SLAM
i.
Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna and Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski produced
a fighting performance to beat their German-Colombian opponents Anna-Lena
Groenefeld and Robert Farah in the final to clinch their maiden French Open
mixed doubles title in Paris, France.
ii.
Seeded 7th, Bopanna and Dabrowski took an hour and six minutes to win. Bopanna
has become only the 4th Indian to win a Grand Slam crown, after Leander Paes,
Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza.
