i. The World Summit on
the Information Society Forum 2017 was held in Geneva, Switzerland.
ii. The World Summit on
the Information Society Forum 2017 represents the world’s largest annual
gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community.
iii. The annual WSIS
Forum is a global multi-stakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of
the WSIS Action Lines for advancing sustainable development.
iv. The Forum was
co-organised by ITU, UNDP, UNESCO and UNCTAD in close collaboration with all
WSIS Action Line co-/facilitators and other UN organizations (UNDESA, FAO, WHO,
UNEP, UN Women, WIPO, WFP, ILO, WMO, UPU, ITC, UNODC, UNICEF, and UN Regional
Commissions).
v. It provided an
opportunity for information exchange, knowledge creation and sharing of best
practices, while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships, taking
into account the evolving Information and Knowledge Societies.

SWITZERLAND RATIFIES AUTOMATIC EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION WITH INDIA
i. Switzerland ratified
an automatic exchange of financial account information with India in order to
facilitate immediate sharing of details about suspected black money.
ii. The decision was
reportedly taken under the guidance of G20, Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development and other multilateral organizations.
iii. Swiss Federal
Council said that the implementation of the information exchange is planned for
2018 and that the first set of data exchange would happen in 2019.
i. Reserve Bank of India
said India’s current account deficit narrowed during the last fiscal due to a
contraction in the country’s trade deficit.
ii. CAD for fiscal year
2016-17 narrowed to 0.7% of the Gross Domestic Product from 1.1% in 2015-16 on
the back of the contraction in trade deficit.
iii. India’s trade
deficit for the same period narrowed to $112.4 billion in 2016-17 from $130.1
billion in 2015-16.

IBBI NOTIFIES FAST TRACK INSOLVENCY RESOLUTION PROCESS FOR CORPORATE PERSONS
REGULATIONS
i. The Insolvency and
Bankruptcy Board of India has notified the Fast Track Insolvency Resolution
Process for Corporate Persons Regulations.
ii. These regulations
will provide the process from initiation of insolvency resolution of eligible
corporate debtors. The process in these
cases shall be completed within a period of 90 days, as against 180 days in
other cases.
iii. The Adjudicating Authority
if satisfied, extend the period of 90 days by a further period up to 45 days
for completion of the process.
iv. A creditor or a
corporate debtor may file an application, along with the proof of existence of
default, to the Adjudicating Authority for initiating fast track resolution
process.
v. After the application
is admitted and the interim resolution professional is appointed. If the IRP is
of the opinion, based on the records of corporate debtor, that the fast track
process is not applicable to the corporate debtor, he shall file an application
before expiry of 21 days from the date of his appointment.

KANNADA PLAYWRIGHT SHIVAPRAKASH HONOURED WITH KUSUMAGRAJA
i. Kannada poet and
playwright H S Shivaprakash has honoured with the prestigious Kusumagraja
Rashtriya Puraskar and Latur-based Menka Dhumale was presented YCMOUs Baburao
Bagul story writing award for year 2016 for her book “Korda Paus”.
ii. Shivaparakash has
given prestigious Kusumagraja Rashtriya Puraskar for his outstanding
contribution to social and educational fields.
iii. The award is
constituted by the Nashik-based Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open Universitys
Kusumagra jaadhyasan (Chair), carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh, a memento
and a citation.

SALMAN KHAN’S ‘SULTAN’ TO BE SCREENED AT SHANGHAI FILM FEST
i. Bollywood superstar
Salman Khan’s “Sultan” is to be screened at the 20th Shanghai International
Film Festival.
ii. The gala is to be
held June 17-26, 2017 in Shanghai, China. The movie features Salman in the role
of a wrestler and is he paired with Anushka Sharma. The movie is directed by
Ali Abbas Zafar

SERBIA PRESIDENT NAMES ANA BRNABIC ITS 1ST OPENLY GAY AND FIRST FEMALE PRIME
MINISTER
i. Serbia’s President has
nominated the minister Ana Brnabic as Prime Minister. Ana Brnabic is the 1st
woman and first openly-gay politician to become the PM of Serbia.
ii. President Aleksandar
Vucic has announced Ana Brnabic is his official nomination as Prime
Minister-designate. Her government needs formal approval by Serbia’s parliament
next week.
iii. Her appointment into
government last year was hailed by human rights groups as historic for the
country whose gay community continues to face discrimination, harassment and
violence.
iv. Ms Brnabic is
currently government minister of public administration and local government of
Serbia. The new Prime Minister is a former “businesswoman of the year” in her
country.

WORLD DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT: JUNE 17 2017
i. The World Day to
Combat Desertification and Drought was observed globally on 17 June.
ii. Theme of The World
Day to Combat Desertification and Drought was ‘Our land Our home Our
Future’. Its aim is to promote public
awareness of international efforts to combat desertification.
iii. The World Day to
Combat Desertification and Drought is examined the important link between land
degradation and migration. The day reminds everyone that land degradation
neutrality is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement
and co-operation at all levels.
