1.
JHARKHAND ANNOUNCES JAN-DEC FY
i. Jharkhand will become
the 2nd state in the country to announce its financial year from January to
December. According to Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das the new budget will be
scheduled in December.
ii. The new fiscal year
for Jharkhand would commence from January 1, 2018 and end on December 31, 2018.
iii. Madhya Pradesh was
1st state to adopt the new financial year. In 2017, Jharkhand was the 1st state
to table its budget in January.

ODISHA TO INTRODUCE BOAT AMBULANCES IN 4 DISTRICTS
i. Odisha will introduce
boat ambulance service in 4 districts where people face difficulties in getting
health service.
ii. The boat ambulance
service will be available in Malkangiri, Koraput, Kendrapara and Kalahandi
districts.
iii. The state government
has sanctioned 6 boat ambulances for these areas which will be part of the 108
ambulance service. It is a part of an MoU signed between the State Government
and the Ziquitza Health Care.

GOVT TO SET UP 100 TRAINING INSTITUTES TO SKILL DRIVERS
i. The Union Skill
Development Ministry and Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways have
signed a Memorandum of Understanding to set up 100 driver training institutes.
ii. The MoU was signed in
New Delhi in the presence of Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin
Gadkari and Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Skill Development & Entrepreneurship
Minister.
iii. The objective of the
MoU is to meet the rising demand for certified commercial drivers in the
automotive, construction and logistics sectors.

INDIA TO HOLD FESTIVAL IN EGYPT TO MARK RABINDRANATH TAGORE’S BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
i. India will organise
cultural festival in Egypt to mark 156th birth anniversary of Rabindranath
Tagore. Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, the cultural wing of the Indian
Embassy in Cairo will organise this festival which will feature a dance show,
film screening, a play and painting competition.
ii. The festival is being
organised in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, Cultural
Production Sector, Cairo Opera House, Dancers’ Guild and the Indian Community
Association in Egypt.
iii. Screening of movie
‘Kabuliwala’ directed by Hemen Gupta. This movie is based on Tagore’s novel
about an immigrant from Kabul who forms a bond with a young girl in India who
reminds him of his daughter in Afghanistan.

INTER-MINISTERIAL DELEGATION PARTICIPATED IN BASEL, ROTTERDAM, STOCKHOLM
CONVENTIONS IN GENEVA
i. An inter-ministerial
Indian delegation headed by Mr. Ajay Narayan Jha – Secretary, Ministry of
Environment, Forest and Climate Change participated in the 2017 Conference of
Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm Conventions.
ii. All 3 conferences
were held jointly and back-to-back from 24th April 2017 to 5th May 2017 in
Geneva, Switzerland.
iii. Theme of these
meeting was: “A future detoxified: sound management of chemicals and waste”
iv. 13th meeting of the
Conference of Parties to Basel Convention: Discussion Topic was Control of
transboundary movements of hazardous wastes and their disposal
v. 8th meeting of the
Conference of Parties to Rotterdam Convention: Discussion Topic was Prior
informed consent procedure for certain hazardous chemicals and pesticides in
international trade.
vi. 8th meeting of the
Conference of Parties to Stockholm Convention: Discussion Topic was Persistent
organic pollutants.

SACHIN TENDULKAR CONFERRED WITH FELLOWSHIP AWARD IN UK
i. Sachin Tendulkar
conferred with Fellowship Award at the 7th annual Asian Awards in UK.
ii. India’s cricket icon
plans to support charities and various initiatives to help the under-privileged
people in the 2nd innings of his life. He also plans to provide solar lights to
poor people in India.
iii. The ceremony, which
celebrates excellence in the global Asian community, also paid tribute to
Indian actor Om Puri. The award for outstanding achievement in Cinema was
posthumously conferred on Om Puri.
iv. India’s playback
singer Adnan Sami won the award for outstanding achievement in Music.
7.
SHIVA THAPA WINS SILVER AT ASIAN BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
i. Indian Boxer Shiva
Thapa won a silver medal at the Asian Boxing Championships in Tashkent,
Uzbekistan. He lost the final match to Elnur Abduraimov from Uzbekistan.
ii. Shiva Thapa had
reached the finals by defeating Olympic bronze-medallist, Asian Games
gold-medallist Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai of Mongolia in semi-final match.
iii. This is Shiva’s 3rd
back-to-back medal at Asian Boxing Championships. Earlier he won Gold Medal in
2013 and Bronze Medal in 2015.
i. Shiva had won bronze
medal in World Championships under bantamweight (56kg) category.

86-YEAR-OLD NEPALI MOUNTAINEER DIES ON MT EVEREST
i. Min Bahadur Sherchan,
the oldest climber to scale the Mount Everest has died.
ii. Sherchan had scaled
the Everest at the age of 76 in 2008 and recorded his name in the Guinness Book
of World Records in 2010 as the oldest climber.
iii. 5 years later his
record was broken by an 80-year-old Japanese national Yuichiro Miura. Sherchan
aimed at reclaiming the crown of oldest climber to ascend the 8,848-meter peak.
iv. He was climbing the
Everest for the cause of the world peace and to protect Earth besides winning
back the record.
