1.
SAMADHAN – RAJNATH SINGH COINS AN ACRONYM TO WIPE OUT LEFT-WING TERROR
i. A meeting of the Chief
Ministers of states affected by Left-Wing Extremism, presided over by Union
Home Minister Rajnath Singh was held in New Delhi.
ii. In the meeting, Mr.
Rajnath Singh announced SAMADHAN, a new strategy to wipe out left – wing terror.
iii. Other Govt.
functionaries who attended the meeting included Rajiv Mehrishi – Union Home
Secretary, Ajit Doval – National Security Adviser, Director of Intelligence
Bureau, State Heads of Police Department and Heads of the Central Forces.

29TH INDIA- INDONESIA CO-ORDINATED PATROL COMMENCES
i. The 29th series of
India–Indonesia CORPAT is scheduled from 9th to 25th May 17.
ii. The opening ceremony
being conducted at Port Blair. It will be conducted under the aegis of Andaman
and Nicobar Command.
iii. The CORPAT serves to
enhance mutual understanding and inter–operability between the two navies.

INDIA UNANIMOUSLY ELECTED TO HEAD UN-HABITAT, THE UNITED NATIONS’ HUMAN
SETTLEMENTS PROGRAMME
i. India has been
unanimously elected as the President of UN-Habitat for next 2 years. UN-Habitat
is an organ of United Nations, which promotes environmentally and socially
sustainable global human settlements.
ii. Consequential to
India being elected as President of UN-Habitat, Union Minister of Housing &
Urban Poverty Alleviation - Venkaiah Naidu chaired the 26th Meeting of the
Governing Council of UN-Habitat which began in Nairobi, Kenya.
iii. Theme of 26th
Meeting of the Governing Council of UN-Habitat was “Opportunities for effective
implementation of the New Urban Agenda”.

FINANCE MINISTER ARUN JAITELY’S 3-DAY VISIT TO JAPAN
i. Union Finance Minister
Arun Jaitley, embarked on a 3-day visit to Japan. Mr. Jaitley attended the
annual Meeting of Board of Governors’ of Asian Development Bank in Yokohama,
Japan.
ii. 50th annual meeting
of the Asian Development Bank Board of Governors held from 4th – 7th May 2017
in Yokohama, Japan with the theme “Building Together the Prosperity of Asia”.
iii. Both the countries
have affirmed plans to strengthen their military cooperation amid rising
tension in the Asian region.

PHILIPPINES, US BEGIN SMALLER-SCALE JOINT MILITARY EXERCISES
i. Philippine and U.S.
troops begin smaller scale joint military exercise. It major focus will be on
disaster response, humanitarian assistance and counter terrorism.
ii. “Balikatan” or
“Shoulder-to-Shoulder” 12 day military exercises were led by U.S. Ambassador
Sung Kim and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
iii. This year’s
exercises will be based on a scenario of troops responding to a super typhoon
hitting the Philippines.
iv. The 2 countries are
conducting the yearly training for the 33rd time to ensure coordination and
interoperability of their forces.

INDIA TO GROW AT 7.7% IN 2018-19: IMF
i. The International
Monetary Fund has predicted India to grow at 7.7% in 2018-2019 and expected to
grow 7.2% in the 2017-18 fiscal year.
ii. The main challenge
before the Indian economy will be to improve agricultural productivity.
According to the report, Asia will see a rise in growth from 5.3% in 2016 to
5.5% in 2017.

i. Private sector bank
Yes Bank announced its tie-up with Cashkaro to launch India’s 1st Card Linked
Offers cash-back proposition.
ii. It is a fully
automated program removing the need for additional coupon codes and merchant
integrations.
iii. Yes Bank along with
CashKaro will launch the Card Linked Offers pan India.
iv. Yes Bank cardholders
will receive personalized offers on the basis of their shopping patterns Yes
Bankwhich will be communicated via SMS.

VENU RAJAMONY APPOINTED INDIA’S AMBASSADOR TO NETHERLANDS
i. Venu Rajamony a Press
Secretary to President Pranab Mukherjee and senior diplomat has been appointed
India’s Ambassador to the Netherlands.
ii. Venu Rajamony will
also be India’s Permanent Representative to the Organisation for Prevention of
Chemical Weapons. He has served in the Indian Mission in Hong Kong and done two
terms in the Indian Embassy in Beijing.
iii. Headquarter of
Organisation for Prevention of Chemical Weapons is in The Hague Netherland.

ODISHA CM NAVEEN PATNAIK UNVEILS LOGO, MASCOT FOR 22ND ASIAN ATHLETICS
CHAMPIONSHIP
i. Odisha CM Naveen
Patnaik discloses the Logo, Mascot for 22nd Asian Athletics Championship. It
will be held at Kalinga Stadium Bhubaneswar.
ii. Olly Turtle is the
mascot of 22nd Asian Athletics Championship Bhubaneswar 2017.
iii. The championship
will be held from 1st July to 4th July of this year. Nearly 800 athletes from
45 countries will take part in this event.
iv. An Athletic
Federation of India team was in the state capital to inspect the venue. The
winners will directly qualify for the World Championship in London.
