1.
HARYANA PRESENTS OVER RS 1,02,329.35 CRORE BUDGET FOR FY 2017-18 IN STATE
ASSEMBLY
i.
Captain Abhimanyu, The Haryana Finance Minister, presented the proposed budget
of Rs 1,02,329.35 cr for the fiscal 2017-18 in the state assembly which is Rs
9,041.59 (13.18%) more than previous year’s budget..
ii.
9 priority areas: Agriculture, urban development, rural development,
infrastructure, IT governance, education, women empowerment, health,
development of youth and culture.
iii.
The Haryana Budget Session is going in Haryana Assembly (Vidhan Sabha).
2.
TRIBAL FESTIVAL ‘BHAGORIA’ BEGINS IN JHABUA
i.
Bhagoria Festival, also known as Bhagoria Haat Festival, celebrated by the
tribal people of the Indian state Madhya Pradesh in Jhabua district.
ii.
The festival which has been organized at 34 places in the state is celebrated
in the month of March before the Holi Festival by the local tribes called Bhils
and Bhilalas.
iii.
The week-long festival is organised at different Bhagoria haats in the form of
Svayamvara or Marriage Ceremony located in Jhabua, Dhar, Alirajpur, Barwani and
Khargone districts in western Madhya Pradesh.

JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE AL NAGAH-II BEGINS BETWEEN INDIA-OMAN IN HIMACHAL
PRADESH
i.
A 14 days long joint military training exercise AL NAGAH-II, of the Royal Army
of Oman and the Indian Army kicked off at Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh.
ii.
This is the 2nd edition of the joint military exercise between the two
countries. The 1st edition was held at Muscat, Oman in January 2015.
iii.
Its aim is to build and promote bilateral Army-to-Army relations and enhance
interoperability; exchange skills and experiences between the two armies in the
backdrop of counter insurgency/ counter terrorism environment.
4.
VIJAYA BANK OPENS ITS 2,000TH BRANCH IN TIRUPATI
i.
Bengaluru based Vijaya Bank has recently opened its 2000th Branch in Tirupati
by Chairman, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams,Sri Chadalawada Krishna Murthy.
ii.
This branch is the region’s 65th branch and the 2nd in Tirupati city.
5.
GOVT NOD FOR STRATEGIC SALE OF 3 SAIL PLANTS
i.
The Central government has approved outright sale of state-owned SAIL’s three
special steel units – Alloy Steels Plant, Salem Steel Plant and Visvesvaraya
Iron and Steel Plant.
ii.
In pursuance of the decision, SAIL has now sought advisors, including legal and
merchant bankers, to carry out the strategic sale along with transfer of
management control in the SAILthree steel plants.
iii.
The Maharatna PSU is scouting for transaction advisor from professional
consulting firm, financial institutions, and investment bankers, to provide
advisory services and manage the disinvestment process.
iv.
ASP is located at Durgapur in West Bengal, SSP in Tamil Nadu can produce
stainless steel in the form of coils and sheets with an installed capacity of
70,000 tonnes a year, VISP is located in Bhadravati, Karnataka.

INDIAN NAVY’S OLDEST WARSHIP INS VIRAAT, DECOMMISSIONS ON MARCH 6 AFTER 30-YEAR Service
i.
Indian Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier, INS Viraat was decommissioned on March
6 at a solemn ceremony in Mumbai after nearly 30 years of service for Indian
Navy.
ii.
The ship which is famously known as the ‘Grand Old Lady’ was with the British
Royal Navy since 1959 before the Indian government bought it for Rs 6.5 cr in
1987.
iii.
The motto of INS Viraat was ‘Jalamev Yasya, Balmev Tasya’ (One Who Controls the
Sea is All Powerful), which was first adopted by the great warrior king,
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century as the guiding principle of his
naval-military strategy.
iv.
INS Viraat played a major role in the Operation Jupiter in 1989 in Sri Lankan
Peace Keeping operations.The ship has a full load displacement of 28,700
tonnes, length of 226.5 metres and width of 48.78 metres. It manned 150
officers and 1,500 sailors.

INDIA’S WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM REGISTERED 3RD SUCCESSIVE WIN AGAINST BELARUS
i.
India’s women’s hockey team led by Ritu Rani defeated Belarus 3-1 to clinch
their 3rd consecutive win in the five-Test Series held in Bhopal. This will be
warm-up Hockey team ahead of their Hockey World League Round 2 tournament in
Canada scheduled this April.
ii.
After a goalless 1st quarter Belarus skipper Ryta Batura scored in the 24th
minute through a penalty corner and in the backdrop skipper Rani scored 2
consecutive field goals to put India in command with a 2-1 lead.
iii.
The another star Deepika who scored India’s third goal in the 42nd minute to
take a 3-1 lead while the defenders did well to keep the visitors from scoring
in the final quarter to confirm a win.
9.
FORMER HAITI PRESIDENT RENE PREVAL DIED
i.
Eminent Haitian Former president and agronomist Rene Preval has passed away. He
was described as “a dignified son of Haiti“.
ii.
Rene was first elected President of the Caribbean nation from 1996 to 2001 and
from 2006 to 2011 when he faced his biggest challenge.
