1. BANK DEPOSITS WITH RBI HIT RECORD HIGH AFTER DEMONETISATION
i. In the wake of demonetization bank
deposits with the Reserve Bank of India have reached a record high of Rs. 4.3
trillion, beating the earlier record of Rs. 1.7 trillion in May 2009.
ii. The RBI accepts money from various banks
by offering government securities as collateral.
iii. The Indian banking system had collected
deposits worth Rs. 5.12 trillion as of 18 November.
2. IIT KHARAGPUR NAMED TOP UNIVERSITY IN INDIA FOR JOBS
i. IIT Kharagpur has been named the top
university in India in terms of jobs and placements d.
ii. Stanford University in the US has topped
the list globally.
3. DONALD TRUMP PICKS INDIAN-AMERICAN NIKKI HALEY AS UN ENVOY
i. US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen
South Carolina's Indian-American Governor Nikki Haley as US ambassador to the
United Nations.
ii. Haley will be the first woman to join
Trump's administration.
4. GOVERNMENT APPOINTS NEW NHAI CHAIRMAN
i. The government has appointed Yudhvir Singh
Malik as the Chairman of National Highways Authority of India.
ii. He is going to replace Raghav Chandra.
5. PM MODI VISITED PUNJAB TO MARK 350 BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF GURU
GOBIND SINGH
i. PM Narendra Modi visited Punjab to attend
a function marking the 350th birthanniversary of tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh
ji at Sri Anandpur Sahib in Rupanagar district.
ii. PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of
the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bathinda.
6. RAILWAYS TO INTRODUCE ‘TRI-NETRA’ TO CHECK COLLISIONS
i. Indian Railways all set to launch
“Tri-Netra which means Terrain Imaging for diesel drivers infrared, enhanced
optical and radar assisted system” to check collisions between tracks.
ii. Tri-Netra system will help to reduce
train accidents by keeping a record of the track maintenance and will also provide
better visibility during foggy days.
iv. It will provides a locomotive pilot a
clear view of up to one kilometre on a straight track.
