1. NDC TO BE SCRAPPED,
NITI AAYOG COUNCIL LIKELY TO GET ITS POWERS
i. The Union government is going to
scrap the National Development Council.
ii. The
Cabinet will take up its closure and also pass a resolution for transferring
its powers to the Governing Council of the NITI Aayog shortly.
iii. National
Development Council was set up on 6th August, 1952 and it served as
“the highest decision-making authority” in the country on development matters.
2. 18 STATES AGREE TO
REVOKE ‘NO DETENTION POLICY’ IN RTE
i. Committee
led by Rajasthan Education Minister Vasudev Devnani has sent recommendations to
the Central government that the ‘no detention policy’ under the Right to Education
Act should be revoked.
ii. The
committee had received the consent of 18 States to make amendments in the ‘no
detention policy’ under the Right to Education Act.
iii. Under
the no detention policy, no student can be failed or expelled till Class VIII.
iv. The
committee stated that a ‘learning level’ must be fixed for each class to check
whether a student is eligible for the class that he or she is in.
3. GLOBE SOCCER AWARDS
2015 CONFERRED
i. The
Globe Soccer presented the sixth edition of Globe Soccer Awards 2015 to the
winners at a ceremony held in Dubai, UAE.
ii. Awarded for excellences in the
field of football, Globe Soccer Awards are the first and only awards for the
Best Club Director and the Best Agent of the Year.
ii. The awards conferred were based on
the performance of the players and football clubs in 2015.

4. NAGI DAY CELEBRATED BY
THE ARMY ON 28TH DECEMBER
i. The 44th Nagi Day was recently
celebrated at Sriganganagar Military Station and Nagi in memory of gallant
soldiers of the Indian Army.
ii. Nagi
a small village located in Sri Karanpur close to International Boundary where
famous Battle of Nagi on 27-28 Dec 1971 was fought between India and Pakistan.
iii. The
day is observed in the remembrance of those soldiers who laid down their lives for the Nation .
5. RBI PANEL FOR DIRECT
TRANSFER OF CASH, ABOLISHING FARM SUBSIDY
i. A
Committee of Reserve Bank of India on financial inclusion has suggested the
government to transfer cash directly to persons in place of giving subsidies.
ii. The
committee has recommended government to replace interest subvention on
agriculture loans with affordable universal crop insurance scheme.
iii. Key
recommendations by the committee:
a. Changes in interest subvention scheme and ploughing the
subsidy amount into a mandatory crop insurance scheme for small and marginal
farmers
b. Banks should open more accounts for females
c. Suggests
stepping up financial inclusion in north-eastern, eastern and central states
d. Recommended
‘Gold KCC’ scheme for good borrowers
e. Recommended
commercial banks to open specialized interest-free windows with simple products
f. Recommended
more bank credit to the MFI sector
6. VIRAT KOHLI NAMED
CRICKETER OF THE YEAR' 2015 AND MITHALI RAJ PICKED FOR WOMEN'S TOP AWARD
i. Indian
Test captain Virat Kohli has been selected for 'Cricketer of the Year' award
2015.
ii. Mithali
Raj was selected for the top women's award in the BCCI annual honours.
iii. Former
wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani will behonoured with the Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime
Achievement Award.
7. DAVA PROJECT OF
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE WON 2015 EASIA AWARD
i. Drug
Authentication and Verification Application Project won the 2015 eASIA Award under Trade
Facilitation category.
II. The
award was announced by Asia Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and
Electronic Business in Tehran, Iran.
ii. DAVA
is an platform for implementation of the Track and Trace system both for
exports and domestic markets of Drugs and Pharmaceuticals.
iii. The
project was started last year by the Department of Commerce.
iv. The
main aim of the project is to provide simpler means to the consumer and
regulatory agencies for establishing drug authentication and protect the
India’s Brand image in international trade.
8. TERROR ATTACK AT
PATHANKOT AIR FORCE BASE AND 4 TERRORISTS KILLED
i. The
terrorists attacked Pathankot Air Force Base Punjab, four to five militants
believed to be from the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist group attacked in the early
morning with an aim of destroying the air base.
ii. The
Gun battle between Terrorists and security forces lasted for more than five
hours.
iii. The
four militants were killed in the battle and two jawans were also martyred and
six sustained injuries.
iv. It
is the second major terrorist attack on Punjab earlier terrorists attackede in
Dinanagar in Gurdaspur July last year.
9. VOCALIST SANJAY
SUBRAHMANYAM CONFERRED WITH 2015 SANGITA KALANIDHI AWARD
i. South Indian classical vocalists
Sanjay Subrahmanyam was conferred with the 2015 Sangita Kalanidhi award in
tamil nadu.
ii. Sangita
Kalanidhi award is a award given annually to an expert of Carnatic Music by the
Madras Music Academy.
