1.       PRESIDENT OF ECUADOR

·         Daniel Roy Gilchrist Noboa Azín was re-elected as the president of Ecuador for a 4-year term with 55.8% of the votes, defeating Luisa González of the Citizen Revolution Movement.

·         This marks Daniel Noboa’s second presidential victory in Ecuador, following his initial win in November 2023, when he became the country’s youngest president at the age of 35 after winning a snap general election for a shortened 16-month term.

 

2.       PRESIDENT OF GABON

·         Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the interim President of Gabon, was elected as its President.

·         He secured a landslide victory with 90.35% of the total votes.

·         The victory enabled Brice Oligui Nguema to commence a full seven-year presidential term in office.

·         Capital – Libreville.

 


3.       CHAIRPERSON OF 23RD LCI

·         Former Supreme Court(SC) judge Justice Dinesh Maheshwari appointed as the Chairperson of the 23rd Law Commission of India (LCI).

·         Along with him, Advocate Hitesh Jain and Professor D.P. Verma have been appointed as full-time members of the 23rd LCI for a tenure extending until 31st August 2027.

 

4.       52th CJI

·         Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, the second-most senior judge of the Supreme Court of India (SCI), will take oath as the 52nd Chief Justice of India (CJI) on 14th May 2025.

·         He will be the second Dalit CJI after Justice KG Balakrishnan.

·         The retirement age of SCI judges is 65 years.

 

5.       ICC MEN’S CRICKET COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON

·         Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly was reappointed as the Chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Cricket Committee. 

·         He succeeded Anil Kumble, who completed the maximum permitted three three-year terms.

 

6.       GI TAG FOR MEGHALAYA’S RYNDIA & KHASI HANDLOOM

·         Geographical Indications (GI) Registry granted Geographical Indication (GI) tag to Meghalaya’s indigenous textile, ‘Ryndia’ silk and Khasi handloom products.

·         Ryndia or Eri silk, commonly known as Peace or Ahimsa Silk.

 

7.       INDIA GLOBAL FORUM’S NXT25 SUMMIT 2025 

·         The India Global Forum(IGF) hosted its ‘NXT25 Summit 2025’-Leading the Leap was held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.

·         The summit was supported by the United Kingdom (UK) Government, the Government of Maharashtra, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry .

 

8.       1ST AFRICAN COUNTRY TO SIGN ISA’S PARTNERSHIP FRAMEWORK 

·         Mauritius became the first African country and  fourth country globally after Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Cuba, to sign a Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

·         The signing of CPF took place during the two-day event Global SolarX Accelerator Programme hosted by the ISA in Mauritius.

·         ISA was launched by India and France, aims to mobilize USD 1 trillion in solar investments by 2030.

·         Headquarters – Gurugram, Haryana, Founded – 2015.

 

9.       BANGLADESH SIGNS ARTEMIS ACCORDS WITH NASA

·         Bangladesh became the 54th country to sign the Artemis Accords, a set of non-binding agreements established by NASA in October 2020, to promote peaceful, transparent, and cooperative civil exploration of outer space.

·         The Artemis Accords are a framework grounded in the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, the Registration Convention, and the Rescue and Return Agreement, aiming to ensure that space exploration activities are safe, sustainable, and conducted in accordance with international law.

·         Global Alignment: Bangladesh joins with 53 nations, including the USA, India, Japan, and United Arab Emirates (UAE), in fostering responsible space exploration.

 

10.    PRESIDENT DROUPADI MURMU VISIT TO PORTUGAL & SLOVAKIA

·         President Droupadi Murmu first visited Portugal at the invitation of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Portugal.

·         She was honoured with the ‘City Key of Honour’ of Lisbon City making her an honorary citizen of Lisbon, Portugal.

·         The Presidents of India and Portugal launched postage stamps celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties between the 2 nations.

·         President Droupadi Murmu visited Slovakia at the invitation of Peter Pellegrini, the President of Slovakia.

·         She was presented a copy of the first-ever Slovak translation of ancient Indian texts, the Upanishads, by the Slovak President.

·         The Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia, awarded an  Honorary Doctorate, to Droupadi Murmu.
