·         TshegoGaelae from South Africa (SA), a 33-year-old model, made history by becoming the first Black South African woman to win the 40th edition of the Mrs. World title in 2025.

2.       6TH ‘MEN’S HIL 2024-25’ TITLE

·         Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers won the first ever title of the  ‘Men’s Hockey India League 2024-25(HIL 2024-25)’ by defeating Hyderabad Toofans 4-3 in the final tournament held at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Odisha.

·         The 6th edition of Men’s HIL 2024-25 tournament, featured 8 teams

·         The Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers for the 2024-25 season were led by Captain Rupinder Pal Singh, while the Hyderabad Toofans were led by Captain Sumit Walmiki.

·         With this victory, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers were awarded Rs 3 crore as the prize money, while the runners-up, Hyderabad Toofans, received Rs 2 crore.

·         Top Scorer of the Tournament 2024-25: Jugraj Singh (Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers)

·         Player of the Tournament 2024-25: Sukhjeet Singh (Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers)

·         The Hockey India League is a premier club-based hockey tournament organized by Hockey India, with participation from both Indian and International players.

 


3.       AUSTRALIA WINS ICC WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY 

·         Australia won International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Championship trophy 2022-2025. Australia secured the championship for the third consecutive time.

·         This was the 3rd edition of the ICC Women’s Championship.

·         Each Team has to play 3 One Day International (ODI) matches against all other teams.

·         At the end of the cycle, Team which secured top position will be awarded.

·         Australia finished the 3rd edition series with the highest total of 39 points (17 wins, three no-results, three losses) in 24 matches.

·         India secured 2nd position with 37 points in the table.

·         Top 6 team from the points table will be directly qualified for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup hosted by India.

·         Australia (39), India (37), England (32), South Africa (25), Sri Lanka (22) and New Zealand (21) are the direct entrants.

·         The first and second editions of 2014-16 and 2017-20 consisted of eight teams – Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

·         Later, Bangladesh and Ireland were added in the 3rd edition played from 2022-2025 totaling it to 10 teams.

 

4.       ICC U19 WOMEN’S T20 WORLD CUP 2025

·         India won the 2nd edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 (U19) Women’s T20 (Twenty 20) World Cup 2025 for the 2nd consecutive time by defeating South Africa with 9 wickets in the final at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia.

·         India’s women cricket team was led by captain Niki Prasad and South Africa’s women cricket team was led by captain Kayla Reyneke.

·         Following this win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has announced prize money of Rs 5 crore for the India’s U-19 women’s team.

·         Gongadi Trisha earned ‘Player of the Match 2025’ and ‘Player of the Series 2025’ awards for her outstanding performance and contributions in the match.

·         ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup featured 16 teams, participated in 41 matches.

·         The third edition of the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal in 2027.

5.       23RD NATIONAL PARA ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP

·         The 23rd National Para Athletics Championship 2025 is set to take place in February 2025, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, with over 1,700 para-athletes from across the country.

·         The official logo and mascot of the 23rd National Para Athletics Championship 2025 were unveiled in an event in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN).

·         The logo includes elements that symbolize the dynamic nature of para athletics and the inclusive spirit of the event.

·         The mascot is an elephant, representing strength and determination.

·         For the first time, India will host the 12th edition of the Para Athletics World Championships, scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi in oct 2025.

 

6.       TATA STEEL CHESS MASTERS 2025

·         Indian Chess Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa won the ‘Tata Steel Chess Masters 2025’ trophy by defeating World Chess Champion of 2024, D Gukesh in the tiebreaker held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.

·         With this victory, Praggnanandhaa became the 1st Indian Chess player since Viswanathan Anand in 2006 to win the Tata Steel Masters title.

·         He previously reached a career-high World Ranking of 8 in July 2024 and was a runner-up at the Chess World Cup 2023, where he lost to Magnus Carlsen in the final.

·         The Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2025 was the 87th edition of the “Wimbledon of Chess,” a classical tournament

·         The tournament, the 1st elite chess event of the year, featured 5 out of 14 participants ranked in the top 10 globally.

7.       IOB BECOMES SIGNATORY OF PARTNERSHIP FOR CARBON ACCOUNTING FINANCIALS

·         Chennai based Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), India’s leading Public Sector Bank (PSB), has become a signatory of the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF).

·         With this move, IOB became one of the early adopters in the India banking sector to join this global initiative, reaffirming its commitment in tackling climate change and promoting responsible banking.

·         As a PCAF signatory, IOB will measure and disclose the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions related to its financed activities and adopt globally harmonized methodologies for GHG accounting, aligning with global best practices in the financial industry.

·         PCAF is a global initiative formed in 2015 by 14 Dutch financial Institutions (FIs) under the leadership of the Hague (the Netherlands)-based ASN Bank.

·         It was launched globally in 2019.

·         As of January 2025, more than 550 FIs have joined the PCAF initiative.

·         It facilitates a standardized framework for FIs to measure and disclose GHG emissions from their lending and investment activities, helping them to identify climate risks and align with international climate targets.

·         Mumbai based Union Bank of India (UBI) was the 1st major Indian bank to sign the PCAF in September 2016.

·         New Delhi based PSB, Punjab National Bank (PNB) signed this framework in November 2024.

 

8.       X CORP TO LAUNCH 1ST DIGITAL WALLET

·         Elon Musk owned social media platform, X Corp (formerly known as Twitter, Inc. ), a wholly owned subsidiary of X Holdings Corp, unveiled its 1st Digital Wallet , peer-to-peer (P2P) payment service ‘X Money’ in partnership with Visitors International Stay Admission (VISA), to launch a real-time payment system aiming to create an “everything application (app).”

·         VISA, one of the largest United States of America (USA) credit card networks, will be the 1st partner for X’s Money Account service, set to launch later in 2025.

 

9.       ‘THE 1% CLUB’ BECOMES FIRST FINFLUENCER FIRM TO GET SEBI RIA LICENSE

·         The 1% Club, a financial advisory startup founded by internet personality Sharan Hegde, became the first influencer-led company to obtain a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) license from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

·         It aims to disrupt India’s wealth management market by offering scalable solutions, including stock recommendations, thematic portfolios, small cases, and high-yielding debt solutions in the future.

·         Criteria for RIA License Entity Type: The firm must be a company or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP).

·         Qualification: At least one director or partner must have a minimum of a graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

·         Professional qualifications like Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) (with a specialization in finance) may be considered.

·         Certification: Individuals providing advisory services must have passed the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM)-Series-X-A: Investment Adviser (Level 1) Examination.

·         Net Worth The firm must have a minimum net worth of Rs.25 lakh to register as an RIA with the SEBI.

10.    RBI RELEASED PAYMENT SYSTEM REPORT, DECEMBER 2024

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released Payment System Report, December 2024, which analysed the trends in payment transactions carried out using different payment systems in the last 5 Calendar Years (CY) up to CY-2024.

·         The report has covered key developments in the payment ecosystem and provides in-depth information about Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

·         As per the report, 222 crore digital transactions valued at Rs 772 lakh crore were made in CY-2013, it has increased 94 times in volume and more than 3.5 times in value to more than 20,787 transactions valued at Rs 2,758 lakh crore in CY24.

·         The report showed that the retail digital payments in India has surged from 162 crore transactions in Financial Year 2012-13 (FY13) to 16, 416 crore transactions in FY24, reflecting a nearly 100-fold increase over 12 years.

 

11.    RBI IMPOSED PENALTIES ON ESFBL AND IPPB

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed penalties on Chennai based Equitas Small Finance Bank Limited (ESFBL) and New Delhi based India Post Payments Bank Limited (IPPB) for failing to comply with regulatory guidelines.

·         ESFBL was fined Rs 65 lakh for non-compliance with directions on ‘Levy of Foreclosure Charges/Pre-payment Penalty on Floating Rate Term Loans’ and ‘Credit Flow to Agriculture – Collateral-free agricultural loans.’

·         IPPB was penalized with Rs 26.70 lakh for deficiencies in adhering to the ‘Customer Service in Banks’ .

·         Further, a penalty of Rs 3.10 lakh has also been imposed on Chennai based Aptus Finance India Private Limited for contravention of certain provisions of norms related to Non-banking Financial Companies (NBFCs).

 

12.    RBI OMBUDSMAN RESOLVED 95% OF COMPLAINTS IN FY24

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released its latest Annual Report of the Ombudsman Scheme, 2023-24. 

·         As per the report, RBI resolved 95% (i.e. 2.84 lakh) complaints received under the Reserve Bank-Integrated Ombudsman Scheme (RB-IOS) between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024 and achieved a disposable rate of 95.10%.

·         The report revealed that a total of 9,34,355 complaints were received by the ORBIOs and CRPC as compared to 7,03,544 complaints during F.Y.2022-23, representing an increase of 32.81 per cent.

·         Out of these 9,34,355 complaints, 2,93,924 complaints (31.46 per cent) were received at ORBIOs and 6,40,431 complaints (68.54 per cent) were received at the CRPC.

·         The report informed that ORBIO has resolved  57.07% of maintainable complaints through mutual settlement, conciliation, or mediation, while 40.78% were dismissed due to absence of any service deficiency.

·         CRPC witnessed a sharp increase in complaints, receiving 7,66,957 complaints (including assigned to ORBIOs/ Consumer Education and Protection Cell (CEPCs)), which was 30.10 per cent higher as compared to the previous year.

 

13.    RBI TIGHTENS NORMS FOR IMPOSING PENALTY UNDER PSS ACT, 2007

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has tightened norms for imposing monetary penalties and compounding offences under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act (PSS Act, 2007). 

·         The new framework which has been introduced for payment system operators and banks that outlined various contraventions and penalties such as: operation of a payment system without authorization, disclosure of information, which is prohibited, and failure to pay the penalty imposed by the RBI within the stipulated time period, among others.

·         RBI has been empowered under Section 30 of the PSS Act, to impose a penalty not exceeding Rs 10 lakh or twice the amount involved in such contravention or default where such amount is quantifiable, whichever is more.

 

14.    RBI INJECTS USD 5.1 BILLION LIQUIDITY VIA FX SWAP AUCTION

·         Reserve Bank of India (RBI), conducted a dollar-rupee buy/sell swap FX swap auction for USD 5.1 billion.

·         The auction saw a significant oversubscription, with total bids amounted to USD 25.59 billion from 253 participants, exceeding the offered amount by five times.

·         This move will infuse rupee liquidity into the banking system and is part of a broader strategy by the central bank to inject approximately Rs.1.5 trillion into the financial system.

·         The transaction will be reversed on August 4, 2025, when the RBI will sell the USD 5.1 billion, obtained through 28 accepted bids, back to the market at the forward rate (currency exchange spot rate plus 96.71 paise) and take back Rs. 43,784 crores approximately

·         In response to the auction’s results, dollar-rupee forward premiums saw a slight dip, with the 1-year implied yield moderating its increase to settle at the last quote of 2.24%.

·         In an FX swap, the RBI acquires dollars from financial institutions in exchange for rupees, simultaneously boosting rupee liquidity and reducing excess dollar circulation

 

15.    CA GRAMEEN RECEIVES USD 50 MILLION IFC LOAN

·         Bengaluru based Credit Access (CAGrameen Limited, India’s largest Non-Banking Financial Company-Microfinance Institution (NBFC-MFI) received a USD 50 million loan from Washington, based International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group (WBG).

·         The funding aims to improve financial access for micro-entrepreneurs and support 3–4 million additional women borrowers involved in agriculture and related activities.

 

 

16.    121 FINANCE: 1ST LENDER ON GEM SAHAY 2.0

·         Jaipur based 121 Finance Private Limited, India’s 1st Reserve Bank of India (RBI) registered Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) Factor partnered with Government e-Marketplace (GeM), an initiative of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), along with Bengaluru based Perfios Software Solutions Private Limited and Mumbai based Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) developed GeMSahay 2.0.

·         GeMSahay 2.0 aims to enhance financial inclusion by making the platform more accessible and effective for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) while ensuring a seamless experience for lenders.

 

17.    INDIAN COAST GUARD DAY 2025 – 1ST FEBRUARY

·         Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Day is celebrated annually on 1st February across India to commemorate the establishment of the ICG, India’s maritime armed force under the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

·         In 1977, the Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the ICG, with 2 frigates and 5 patrol boats transferred from the Indian Navy (IN).

·         The ICG was formed on February 1, 1977 by the Coast Guard Act of 1978 of Parliament of India, to combat sea-based smuggling that affected India’s economy.

·         The 1st Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS), Kuthar (Pennant No. 31), was transferred from the IN to the ICG in 1978.

·         ICG was formally inaugurated by the then Prime Minister (PM) Morarji Desai on 19th August 1978.

18.    WORLD WETLANDS DAY 2025 – FEBRUARY 2

·         The United Nations (UN’s) World Wetlands Day is observed annually on February 2 across the globe to raise awareness about the critical role wetlands play in supporting both people and the planet.

·         The day commemorates the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention), an intergovernmental treaty signed on 2 February 1971, in Ramsar, Iran along the shores of the Caspian Sea.

·         The theme for World Wetlands Day 2025, “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future”.

·         The Ramsar Convention Secretariat is based at the headquarters of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Gland, Switzerland.

19.    WORLD CANCER DAY 2025 – FEBRUARY 4 

·         World Cancer Day (WCD) is observed annually on February 4 across the globe to raise awareness of fundamental cancer issues and promote efforts in prevention, detection, and treatment.

·         The campaign theme of WCD 2025-2027 is “United by Unique,” emphasizes the importance of personalized, patient-centered care in the battle against cancer.

·         On February 4 1999, the ‘Charter of Paris’ consisting of 10 articles, was adopted at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris, France.

·         February 4 2025 marks 25 years of signing the Charter of Paris Against Cancer.

20.    FORMER CEC NAVIN CHAWLA PASSED AWAY

·         Former Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) NavinChawla passed away at the age of 79 in New Delhi

·         He served as the Election Commissioner (EC) from May 16, 2005, to April 20, 2009, and then as CEC from April 2009 to July 2010.

·         During his tenure,he oversaw the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and implemented reforms, such as allowing 3rd-gender voters to choose a new voting category.

·         In 2005  he received  ‘Mazzini Award’ (Government of Italy) for his efforts to forge a new relationship with Italy and strengthen the existing bonds between India and Italy.

·         In 1992, he authored the ‘Authorized Biography of Mother Teresa’, which was later translated into 14 languages both in India and internationally.
