1.       ASIA’S 20 RICHEST FAMILIES 2025

·         According to New York, based Bloomberg Limited Partnership (LP’s) ‘Asia’s Richest Families 2025’ Index, the Ambani family of Reliance Industries (India) has secured the top position as Asia’s richest family, with a net worth of USD 90.5 billion. 

·         The Chearavanont family (Thailand) ranks 2nd with a net worth of USD 42.6 billion, followed by the Hartono family (Indonesia) in 3rd place with a net worth of USD 42.2 billion.

·         Among the prominent 6 Indian families featured in the top 20 rankings list, the Mistry family holds the 4th position, followed by the Jindal family in 7th place, the Birla family ranks 9th, while the Bajaj family secures the 13th spot and Hinduja family ranks 18th position.

 

2.        “CA IN PUBLIC SERVICE” AWARD

·         Deepak Kumar Kedia, Inspector General (IG) Headquarters, National Security Guard (NSG), has been bestowed with the prestigious “CA in Public Service” Award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)

·         He was honoured with the award at the World Forum of Accountants (WOFA) meet held at in New Delhi,

·         Earlier, he was also honoured with the prestigious ‘President Medal for Distinguished Service’ on 76th Republic Day of India (January 26, 2025)

·         The ICAI hosted the under Theme: “Accountability Meets Innovation (AI): For A Sustainable Planet”.

·         (ICAI is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament i.e. The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for regulation and development of the profession of Chartered Accountants (CA) in the country.

·         NSG is a counter-terrorism agency of India and also, known as Black Cats.

·         It is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

·         It was formed under the National Security Guard (NSG) Act, 1986.

3.       SAHITYA AKADEMI AWARD 2024

·         The Ministry of Culture (MoC) announced that the late Chaman Arora has been selected for the Sahitya Akademi Award 2024 in the Dogri language for his short story book ‘Ik Hor Ashwthama’(Short Stories).

·         The award will be presented to the family member or nominee of the awardee at the ceremony, which will take place on International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, at Kamani Auditorium in New Delhi.

·         The winners of the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2024 include 8 books of Poetry, 3 Novels, 2 short stories, 3 Essays, 3 Literary Criticism, 1 Play and 1 Research.

·         The award comprises a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh.

 

4.       LEED GREEN BUILDING CERTIFICATION RANKING

·         Washington D.C based United States Green Building Council (USGBC) released its latest ‘Annual list of Top 10 countries and Regions for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) in 2024’.

·         India has retained its 3rd spot globally on the list, with 370 LEED-certified projects; covering 8.50 million Gross Square Meters (GSM) or 91.5 million square feet (sq. ft.) area.

·         India has consistently ranked among the top 3 countries on USGBC’s annual list, reflecting its commitment to achieve the United Nations (UN)’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.

·         China topped the list with 1,860 LEED-certified projects, covering over 25 million GSM, followed by Canada ranked at 2nd position with 300 projects, covering 10 million GSM.

·         Bottom 5 countries on the list: Mexico (6th); Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of People’s Republic of China (PRC)  (7th); Italy (8th); Brazil (9th) and Turkey (10th).

 

5.       NITI AAYOG REPORT ON “EXPANDING QUALITY HIGHER EDUCATION

·         National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) released a policy report titled Expanding Quality Higher Education through States and State Public Universities’, a first-of-its kind policy document in the higher education sector focused specifically on states and State Public Universities (SPUs).

·         The report provides detailed quantitative examination on important indicators of Quality, Funding & Financing, Governance and Employability over the last 10 years across the themes.

·         Considering higher education expenditure as a percentage of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), Bihar ranks highest at 1.56%, followed by Jammu and Kashmir(J&K) at 1.53% and Manipur at 1.45%.

·         The mean per youth expenditure on HE rose from Rs.2,174 to Rs.4,921 between 2005-06 and 2019-20.

·         As per the report, India has 495 SPUs, accounting 81% of the total student enrolment among Indian HEIs. States with highest number of SPUs are: Karnataka (43), followed by WB and UP with 38 each.

6.       CORRUPTION PERCEPTIONS INDEX 2024

·         Berlin (Germany)-based International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Transparency International (TI) released its ‘2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI 2024)’ which evaluated the perceived levels of public sector corruption across 180 countries.

·         India ranks 96th out of 180 countries with a score of 38, marking a decline from its 2023 position, where India ranked 93rd with a score of 39. 

·         India’s score and rank was shared by Gambia and Maldives.

·         Denmark tops the 2024 CPI, for the 7th consecutive time with a score of 90, followed by Finland (88) and Singapore(84).

·         The 2024 CPI highlights that about 85% of the world (about 6.8 billion people) live in countries with high corruption.

·         South Sudan ranked 180th (score 8), Somalia at 179th (score 9),Venezuela at 178th (score 10) and Syria at 177th (score 12) are the most corrupt nations, ranking at the bottom.

 

7.       IA AND IAF EXERCISE ‘EX WINGED RAIDER’

·         The Indian Army (IA) participated in a major training exercise named Ex Winged Raider, focusing on special airborne operations.

·         The exercise demonstrated high operational readiness and showcased the integration between the IA and the Indian Air Force (IAF).

8.       INDIA & EGYPT JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE ‘CYCLONE 2025’

·         The 3rd edition of the India-Egypt joint military exercise ‘Cyclone 2025’ commenced at the Maharajan Field Range, Rajasthan

·         Motto: “Together we train, together we excel,” is the motto of Cyclone 2025.

·         ‘Exercise Desert Warrior’ is another joint exercise carried out by the air forces of India and Egypt.

9.       PARA ARCHERY ASIA CUP 2025

·         India concluded its participation in the ‘2025 Para Archery Asia Cup’ in Bangkok, Thailand with an outstanding performance of securing 6 Gold Medals and topping the medal tally.

·         India’s Para-Archers bagged a total of 12 medals in the competition: 6 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze.

 

10.    MUMBAI TENNIS OPEN 2025

·         Jil Belen Teichmann, Switzerland’s professional tennis player,claimed the singles title in “Mumbai Open 2025 WTA (Women Tennis Association) 125 Event”, held in Mumbai,

·         Jil Belén Teichmann won the singles title by defeating Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand

·         Elena Ivanovna Pridankina and Amina Vladikovna Anshba of Russia won the Doubles title by defeating Prarthana Thombare of India and her Dutch partner Arianne Hartono

·         The Mumbai Open 2025 is an outdoor tournament played on a hard court, at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai
