1. 21ST CM OF MAHARASHTRA
·
Devendra Fadnavis, leader of the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was sworn in as 21st Chief Minister (CM) of
Maharashtra, marking his 3rd term following the Mahayuti
alliance’s victory.
·
The BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP Mahayuti coalition has a majority of 230 seats in the 288-members in the Maharashtra Assembly election
held in November 2024.
·
Maharashtra’s Governor CP Radhakrishnan
administered the oath of office at a grand ceremony held at Azad Maidan in
Mumbai, Maharashtra.
·
Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar
of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also took
their oaths as Deputy CM of
Maharashtra.
2. 26TH GOVERNOR OF RBI
·
The Government of India
(GoI) appointed Sanjay Malhotra, Revenue Secretary,
Ministry of Finance (MoF) as the new Governor of the
Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
·
He replaced Shaktikanta Das (2nd longest
serving RBI Governor) and became the 26th Governor of
RBI.
·
The appointment was approved by the Appointments
Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and was notified by
the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) ,Ministry of Personnel, Public
Grievance and Pension (MoP) .
·
His tenure starts on December
11, 2024 for a period of 3 years.

John Dramani Mahama, political leader of National Democratic Congress (NDC) was
elected as the President of Ghana for the second time.
·
He
won the Presidential election by succeeding Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia,
New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, with 60.9% of votes tallied.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA)
appointed Vaibhav Chaturvedi as the ex-officio
member of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy
Board of India (IBBI).

Currently, Vaibhav Chaturvedi is the
Chief General Manager (CGM), Credit Risk Regulation at
Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
·
Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) is established under the Insolvency
and Bankruptcy
·
Code (IBC) of 2016 plays a pivotal role in the implementation and
enforcement of the Code.
·
Its primary objective is to oversee
the insolvency and bankruptcy process, promoting transparency, accountability and efficiency in
resolving stressed assets.
·
The
move aligns with the broader goal of enhancing synergy among regulatory bodies
such as the RBI, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI),
Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and the Ministry
of Finance (MOF).

6. 1ST INDIAN ELECTED AS SECRETARY
GENERAL OF FCA
·
Rajeev Mehta, former Indian Olympic
Association’s (IOA) Secretary General, was elected as the Secretary
General of the Fencing Confederation of Asia (FCA) for
a period of four years during the 37th
FCA’s General Assembly held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
·
He became the first administrator
from India to hold this position.
·
He will replace Rusni Abu
Hassan(Malaysia).
·
Prior to the appointment, he served as the
Secretary General of the Fencing Association of India (FCI).
·
Fencing Confederation of Asia (FCA) The Constitution of the FCA was
amended on September 7, 2015 and the name was adopted during the General
Assembly meeting of the Asian Fencing Confederation held in Nantong China in
August 2007.

7. PM OF BURKINA FASO
·
Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo,
former communications minister, was appointed as the new Prime Minister (PM) of
Burkina Faso (West African Country)
by the military junta.

He succeeds Apollinaire
Joachim Kyelem de Tambela.
·
This change followed a decree issued by junta leader Ibrahim Traore, which
announced the dismissal of PM Apollinaire Joachim Kyélem de Tambèla and
the dissolution of the national government.
·
A Military Junta is a form of
government controlled by a group of military leaders.

PM OF SYRIA
·
Mohamed al-Bashir, head of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham or HTS rebels, was appointed as the caretaker
Prime Minister (PM) of the transitional Syrian Government after the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s
government and will be serving until March 1, 2025.
·
The
Israeli military has recently begun controlling a demilitarized buffer zone in
Syria, established by a 1974 ceasefire.

SUGAMA BHARAT ABHIYAN COMPLETED
9 YEARS
·
Sugama Bharat Abhiyan, also known as the Accessible India Campaign (AIC), a flagship initiative
of Government of India (GoI) for persons
with disabilities (PwDs), has completed 9 years of
successful implementation.
·
The primary objective of the
campaign is
to ensure universal accessibility for PwDs across 3 main domains: built
infrastructure, transport systems, and the Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) ecosystem.
·
It was launched by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on 3rd December, 2015,
on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

GUJARAT’S
TRADITIONAL GHARCHOLA SAREE RECEIVES GI TAG
·
Chennai (Tamil Nadu, TN) based Geographical Indications (GI) Registry, operating under the Department of
Industry Promotion and Internal Trade (DPIIT),
Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), has granted the prestigious GI tag
to Gujarat’s “Gharchola”, a traditional
sari worn during weddings.
·
This
is Gujarat’s 27the GI tags, with 23
of them recognizing handicrafts.

INDIA’S
FIRST GREEN HYDROGEN FUELING STATION IN LEH
·
Union
Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Ministry of Power (MoP) and Ministry of
Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) inaugurated India’s first green
hydrogen fueling station in Leh, Ladakh.
·
The
station was developed by Hyderabad(Telangana) based Amara Raja
Infra Private Limited for NTPC Limited(formerly known as National
Thermal Power Corporation).

‘2024 AIRLINE OF THE YEAR’
·
India’s
preferred carrier IndiGo was named the ‘2024 Airline
of the Year’ by Centre for Aviation (CAPA) at its 2024 Global Aviation
Awards for Excellence in Belgrade, Serbia.

13. JAPANESE SAKE-MAKING IS UNESCO
INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE
·
The United Nations Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has officially recognized
the traditional Japanese Sake-Making process as an Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of
Humanity, honoring a brewing practice that spans over a thousand
years.
·
The decision was made at a UNESCO meeting
in Luque, Paraguay, where the organization also
recognized 45 other cultural practices
and products from around the world, such as Brazilian white cheese,
Caribbean cassava bread, and Palestinian olive oil soap.
·
The Intangible Cultural Heritage
(ICH) designation
recognizes products and practices from various cultures that are deemed worthy
of recognition.
·
The list was established in 2008 by UNESCO.
·
So
far, 788 elements corresponding to 5 regions and 150
countries have been listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
·
India has 15 elements
included in this list.
·
Japanese
officials are working to revitalize Sake’s reputation, aiming to position it as
the country’s leading alcoholic beverage once again.

INDIA GOA

The theme of IFFI 2024, “Young Filmmakers
– The Future is Now,” reflecting the importance of youth in shaping the
future of cinema.

Opening Ceremony will be hosted by popular film personalities Abhishek
Banerjee and Bhumi Pednekar.

The
festival opened with the Asia premiere of Better Man, an
Australian film directed by Michael Gracey that depicts the
life of popstar Robbie Williams who was portrayed as a
chimpanzee by Jonno Davies.

The
festival concluded with the Closing
film, “Dry Season” – directed by the acclaimed Czech filmmaker Bohdan
Sláma, depicting the story of humanity, sustainability, and generational
bonds and a conflict between two family clans.

Oxford
University Press (OUP) has announced ‘brain rot’ as the Oxford Word of
the Year 2024, reflecting a defining cultural and societal theme of the
year.
·
The term gained prominence due to concerns over
the detrimental effects of consuming excessive amounts of low-quality
online content, especially via social media.
